Title: Anyone feel their attention span has reduced?
Post by: Boost on April 28, 2010, 01:03:47 PM
When I was younger I could lose myself in books, watch hours of tv, watch movies intently etc.....

Now....I fidget, daydream during movies, can't finish a book etc...

All I can handle now are 10 minute youtube clips....

Anyone else feel their attention span has gone to **** in the last few years....?

YES!!!

and i blame it on the internet and the instant-ism of modern life.

i literally have zero attention span anymore-cant focus on anything that is hard for more than a couple seconds at a time. wont watch any youtube/online videos that are more than 5 minutes long. wont watch porn clip more than 4 minutes long. often times i find myself sitting staring at the yahoo mainpage just trying to think of something to type into the search. i literally waste so much time just looking for instant, brief moments of cheap entertainment.

as soon as i get my new place im going to purposely not get cable or internet...it is seriously fucking with my productivity and outlook on life

Exactly! I hate those 30-40 minutes long tube8 clips - I forward to the 10th minute and the bitch is still in lingerie and chats with the cameraman about her boring life!  >:(

Since I don't have a TV I can't mention on that, but I can read for hours upon hours. The only thing I'm struggling with is listening to songs all the way through. I watch about 3 movies a years and it's the kind I would enjoy so I watch it all the way through without a hitch.

Can't watch movies at all, barely get through a 30 minute TV show and that's rare. When I was young I could watch tv for hours on end, now days it's just not the same. Simple things like books and tv's don't cut it anymore. I never even go see a movie at a theater unless I'm dying to see it which is rare. I can sit through The Ulimate Fighter and watch UFC or good boxing matches but that's it

Yessir! Thank heavens I read all the big books and watched all the epics when I had the energy. Can't remember them, mind you, but they're off the list.

You kids don't know how good you have it.

When I was growing up, if we wanted to see porn, we had to go to some sleazy theatre in Times Square and sit through an hour-long film, that had, maybe, fifteen minutes of sex involving Ron Jeremy, in a boy scout uniform, and some big-bushed broad who believed she was an actress and not a whore.

Yep. I struggle watching a full movie from beginning to end - I can only do it at the cinema but that's only because I'm forced to. I can't watch sport for very long either - long gone are the days when I could sit through a game of football.

I feel bad for you young guys. When I was 20, you could actually talk to a girl. Today, with IPODs, cellphones, texting, twitter etc., you can't get a word in, edgewise.

Bingo, same here. I think technology has something to do with this. When everything is "at your finger tips" you become bored with a movie or a book seems you are just "waiting for the end or punchline" I got the same issue. What is the answer?

but not young girls? don't be such a... you know...  ::)

When it comes to talking to girls I love it ALOT because I love to smile to girls, meaning I do talk to girls, but now days girls have gone from sweet to sweet at a price, so don't go all like... you know...  ::), because it's not all black and white

i think the only answer is to cut it out completely and try to gradually 'unlearn' it... :-\

it's a lot easier when you have something to replace it . As for everything, if you have a substitute (a better one of course) it helps a lot. Study, read, train, play a sport, care about your kid etc...  Take control of your life.

Actually I've been feeling like this lately too. I think it's the internet.

Pretty son i'm gonna unplug myself from all technology and go into the wild for a while to get my head straight.

I actually feel like mine has increased.  Its weird...  If I'm focused on something people will talk to me and I wouldn't hear anything and they really have to put an effort to get me out of my "zone"

YES. It's horrible, this site is a bad habit!
Too much working out or dieting doesn't give you the energy to concentrate also.

Bill O' Reilly is garbage for people who are too stupid to read real books about politics and history.
