Hey guys,
Just decided that this year I will finally make my dream come true and visit the Olympia this September.
As I have never been to the Olympia or Vegas, I am in need of help.
Where to stay to be as convenient as possible (4 stars or so, no idea of the quality of the hotels... if 4 stars is needed). Basically to be able to walk to the show, sleep good and eat good...
Is the Gold VIP ticket worth it?
If in Vegas for a week, can you do Grand Canyon, Yosemite besided the Olympia?
ANY HUNGARIANS OR SWEDES GOING?
Thanks,
Tiberius

Donīt forget that the men in thongs are also shaved and oiled up... :)
Found the info on the net about the show, just deciding now on the infrastructure around it. So i really appreciate the hotel suggestion.
I am not a hardcore bodybuilder, but if you have been working out for more than 15 years, you need to do this at least once.

Hello Ontheway and welcome to the boards.
I am from the UK but I've been to Vegas three times (in 2005, 2007, and 2008). I stayed for a fortnight each time I went.
I went to the Olympia Expo in 05 but went to everything in 08, including expo, press conference, pre-judging, and night show. Vegas is a cool place and I stayed in the Luxor in 05 and 08 and the Planet Hollywood hotel in 07 which is centre Strip and a good location to be based if you don't want to stay at The Orleans which is based off-Strip but not too far away from all the action.
Luxor is a decent hotel which is about 4-star and I would recommend it - you've also got the Mandalay Bay next door which has an excellent breakfast buffet for about $20. The only thing that lets the luxor down is its location on the Strip - is second from the end so a bit of travellign about is required.
Basically Vegas has got everything you need or want - you'll have a good time and enjoy - I wish I was going this year but I'm off to New York instead in June so that's my US holiday for this year.
-
Oh yes, I should point out as well that The Grand Canyon is too far away to drive to and from in a day - it's about 250 miles from Vegas - you really need to take a helicopter or flight if you want to go there for the day - if a longer stay then you should be okay.
The Hoover dam is nearby though - that's pretty decent. Not sure about Yosemite though - I didn't consider it when I was there.

Considering this "outing", I assume you're not on this board for too long.

The orleans is a dump. Stay at a nicer hotel. Pick from many. Just google it. Grand Canyon is a little far, but you can see hoover damn pretty easy while there.

ONTHEWAY, due to business I've stayed at just about every hotel in Las Vegas including the major dumps (the Gold Spike way back when) to the very best (the Encore, the Wynn, and Palazzo, and the Four Seasons). I chose each hotel as a matter of convenience due to the fact that I hate wasting time by driving in traffic from where I sleep to where I need to be.
So for convenience sake I recommend that you stay at the Orleans for the first three nights (the Olympia weekend) .... Check in on Thursday and check out on Sunday. Right now you can get a three night rate of $250 plus tax which is not a bad deal for that weekend.
Be advised that room rates do rise on a frequent basis so it is wise to book a room early. Hotel always raise their rates when there is a convention or sporting event underway.
I don't consider the Orleans to be a dump but it is definitely not a Four Star hotel, so I recommend that you move into the Wynn or the Encore on Sunday and stay there until your departure date.
Both of these casino/hotels are top-notch and offer the very best that this town has to offer at room rates that are much less expensive than similar hotels in other major cities.
In my humble opinion nothing can compare to either the Wynn or the Encore. And while there you have to go to XS.
Plan early and have a great time while you're here.
-
Oh yea, I forgot to mention this.....
Yosemite is too far away to visit while you are here.
The Grand Canyon is close enough if you take the helicopter tour but it's not cheap.
You might consider a drive to Death Valley but that would be one full day spent seeing more dirt and sand.
I recommend you stay close to LV and limit your site-seeing to:
Red Rock Canyon .... about 12 miles west
Valley of Fire ... about 60 miles north,
The damn and the new by-pass bridge which is an amazing piece of architecture.... about 30 miles SE.
and ...... walking tours of all the major Strip Hotel/Casinos while signing up for free money/free shows wherever possible.
If you play the slots, let me know and I'll tell you the best casinos to risk your money in.
If you play the tables, let me know and I'll tell you where the lowest minimums are located.
And if you want to rub elbows with professional pro athletes (football, basketball, baseball, etc.) you'll meet most of them at the craps tables at The Palms.
Best food?
Best pools?
Best night clubs?
A cold beer in a bottle for a buck?
Just ask. I know this town as well as anyone.

where can i see some of the finest streetwalkers?
