There was a letter to the editor the other day, where some guy (with a Latino name) suggested that illegal immigrants weren't criminals because immigration fell under the category of civil law.

 ???

Its not a felony, but violation of the immigration law subjects one to deportation.

Is it correct to classify illegal immigrants as criminals?  I always have, but I never really considered the difference in criminal and civil offenses?  ??? Not that it matters...
