I hear that Captain America will be filmed this summer and that Chris Evans' got the lead.
I've never been a Captain America fan so I don't have the slightest idea of the story line but from the Captain America photos I've seen, it appears that he's supposed to be very muscular. And Chris, although he's is great shape, just ain't too muscular.
I also understand that Captain America was once a skinny kid who was rejected by the US Armed Forces and shortly after he somehow turned into Captain America with ample muscles.
Inside Hollywood rumors say that another actor would portray Steve Rogers (the skinny kid) before he receives the super-soldier serum that turns him into Captain America. (Sounds like a super duper steroid cocktail! I wonder how they will present that one the screen? Will the movie going public claim the Captain America is just another drug indulging junkie?)
But those in the know claim that Chris will play both roles.
I do know for a fact that some Hollywood casting guys and gals come on this board occasionally, so here's a small proposal in the event that Chris and the FX folks have difficulty in creating Captain America for the silver screen .....
Use a real person with real muscles ....
And here's one bodybuilder who bears a slight resemblance to what the Capt artists originally intended..... He'll fill out that suit pretty damn well.
Ben! Get an agent and stand by for your close-up.
-
Now Chris is a damn fine actor but does he resemble the Captain in the least?
-
actually, he does kind of resemble him.
-
Man, Yea, I thought so too. That's why I posted his photos and there could even be a slight chance that he could be asked to talk to a Hollywood agent.
(I gotta assume that you mean that Ben looks somewhat like the Captain and not Chris.)
It would save a hell of a lot of money if Ben filled the suit and did the moves. Hollywood would do the rest to convince us that Capt America is really the supercharged Chris Evans.
-
Depends, if we are talking about the Cpt that was drawn by Joe Mad or Leifeld then Ben or that white haired guy from Judge Dredd or the dudes in that play Spartacus or Crixus are your guys. I'd say the latter more so, fit the role of "square jawed" superhero
-
Parker , you sound like an avid fan. Thanks for that input. I'll look 'em up and see if I agree.
Here's the toys already, or have they been on the market earlier .....
-
ANd a poster with Chris' face on it .... at least they say that's his face.
-

I have followed Joe Mad's career, haven't really picked up anything in months or yrs.
But take a look at a twisted new comic called "Escape from Wonderland", part of the "Grimm Fairy tales" series, where The Grimm tales are turned into twisted stories of murder, deceit, sex, dismemberment, torture. Would be good for a ABC series (toned down) or movies
also American Century written by Howard Chaykin and David Tischman. Comic based on th real life story of a Jewish ex military man who said "Fuck You" to the Man. Again, sex, lies, extortion, racism, South American women and politics, all in 1940s-50s settings. Get the trade paperbacks, it is good as shit.
-
I was one who was bitching in another thread about superheroes of today...
But I actually like Chris Evans as Captain America - to me thats a good fit!
I also like Robert Downey Jr. as Ironman!
What I don't like is Tobey Maguire as Spiderman - TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE
??? ??? ???

-
how good of a actor would you really expect ben palkulski to be??
he is a lunkhead bodybuilders
that is the STUPIDEST idea i have ever heard in my life
they can generate muscles via computer now (like they did in 300).....but they cannot CGI the wonderful delivery of a talented actor....just a stupid stupid idea
-
Oh and Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane - HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HOORRRRRIBLE

seriously, what studio head will hire some huge musclebound freak to play a mainstream role?
seriously?!?!?!?
you think mainstream America won't be freaked out by someone with "Kovacs"-like proportions.
Chris Evans is a perfect fit for captain america as was Mcguire a perfect fit for spiderman
Van Damme was perfect because he was big enough to garner believability for his roles but not huge enough where people would look at his physique and think "ewww gross"
remember, hollywood wants teenage girls to go see their movies and teenage girls are REPULSED by 20 inch arms

Evans good for Cap. America, YES. Maguire HORRIBLE for spiderman. you know who I think shoulda had the role - he was in the movie with him, James Franco - he shoulda been spiderman! Its not just about "muscles" johnny, its also the appeal the way they resemble the comic, maguire looks nothing like the comic book parker, NOTHING!

also, i need to add that most bb'ing Pro's have personalities that are akin to the personality that a piece of Dry wall would have

I would have gladly played Peter Parker---my motto is "spin webs, break beds", but alas, sadly a black spiderman there is not...
-
As a person who actually made his living in this industry the look is very important but what really matters most is your on camera presence. Ben may have the build to be Capt America (not really though) but probably has no on camera experience or appeal. That other guy is actually good looking, great body and has a real great on camera presence. Plus he has acting experience and more than likely will perform some of his own stunts and be a whole lot easier to double than someone like the other guy. Not many stuntman built like the BB so whoever would double him would probably have to have a suit made. Plus, BB like this guy just do not have the brains or drive to go out and get an agent or representation. That is where Chic blows them out of the water. He was smart enough to get an agent and when a role like this comes up he at least got a call and got to go in and get seen. And it worked out successfully for him in some instances. But, most BB just are not smart enough to go out and market themselves. It's too bad cause they are missing out on some fun money

Ha, true and Spawn true as well. Wu-Tang had a comic as well. Kinda okay, great artwork.
I always thought that they should have made a spun off of Venom, where some deisel ass Flex Wheeler-sque dude finds the symbiote and pretty much is like some sort of ninja mercenary ("You took me out of the 97 Mr. O, you must die!"---jk)
but, in this story there would be the moral interplay of revenge and it's worth, and how one can get lost in the frenzy of violence and one's soul is not cleansed but blood for blood's sake. I kinda invision it as a way in seeing how two sentient beings can view morality, life, revenge, death and their rspective consequences.

You see, Steel was a take on the John Henry folk hero (who probably was based on a real person). Primarily all black characters are written by white guys, which leads to crazy outlandish characters like Luke Cage (check him in his mini series from Marvel Maxx).
This is why The Boondocks has blown up, because it was and is authentic, plus there are some deep thought provoking questions and themes brought up.

as some here may know, i am a big fan of comics.
i think chris evans is, was and always shall be johnny storm. he was a great fit for that role.
i do not believe he is a good fit for captain america at all - captain america has always been the square jawed leader of men.
chris evans plays a good funny come action guy, nothing more. he is not a leader of men, could you see him ordering tony stark ( robert downey's character) around never mind thor ! hahaha no !
marvel have gotten some perfect castings though i.e. blade, iron man, johnny storm, dr doom, xavier, beast, mystique, magneto, bruce banner ( norton), deadpool, sabertooth ( in wolverine), electra
also they have had some terrible castings: spider-man (entire cast of every film), lady deathstrike, daredevil, 2nd hulk character design >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
on a side note now that they have picked chris, i hope they have cap move like emil blonsky when he fought hulk in the park ( pre abomination) - to me that was classic cap america. ( he was supposed to be on the serum though so he should have moved like that)

this is kind of an obscure on that your guys probably won't remember.......buring the inage comic/spawn heyday of the early 90s there was ashort lived comic book hero named Shadowhawk........who fought crime up in harlem......i think he crossed paths with spawn in one comic, and savage dragon in another
anyway his thing ws that he was a black guy dying of AIDS....very progressive for the time

Yep, and there was Shadowman...really didn't do that well.

fuck Jon Favreau , how the hell could they cast Don Cheadle and ruined one of the top 20 greatest super heroes.

LOL
thats only true because people make it true.
sure, markus ruhl, ronnie coleman, dorian yates, art atwood, these types of dudes do not have a look that would sell...
but ben pakluski(sp?), mark dugdale, victor martinez, roelly winklar, fouad abiad.... the list goes on... very sexy and marketable
-

still "too big" for mainstream movies
their was only one Arnold. Not saying that it could happen again-i'm just saying that if it does, it will have to happen to a very special bodybuilder
-
Ice Cube or Tyrese as Shadowman. Ice Cube approached Acclaim about it, they turned him down.
Michael Jai White as Black Panther or that African dude from The Four Feathers, Constatine.

no they arent, thats just what you think. theres a huge market for masive, ripped guys.. they just need to be aesthetic and have handsome faces. like those i listed

There is no actor capable of personifying such character... probably Gunter Schlierlkamp without talking too much...

with all due respect but the best that fouad abiad could do in hollywood would be "gigolo #2" in the next "Deuce Bigelow" movie

Grant = Alpha Male
oh And yeah Ben Affleck totally fucked it up!
Ben Affleck wasn't good as Daredevil at all - but I place more blame on that loser director Mark Steven Johnson. Affleck CAN act and with better direction he would have been ok in the role, but that director fucked the film. He botched and moaned about the studios destroying his vision of the film, so I went and watched the Directors Cut - still sucked.
And then he did Ghost Rider.
Chris Evans as Cap - I'm keen to see it although I think Cap should be a little older.
-
Just saw Ironman 2
went to see it thinking it wasn't worth a shit from the comments on here.
well now I can say you guys are a bunch of cock suckers, the movie was awesome 8)
-
You guys are good movie critics so now I will go see IronMan 2 (thanks, Stavios) and I will not go see DareDevil again (thanks, Galain).
Galain, you sound like a Hollywood Studio inside guy. Do you work in the biz or are you just an avid fan?

Just a fan, mate - the only thing I'm inside with any regularity is my wife. ;D
Here's a crazy side note for you though - back in 2004, through a very convoluted series of events, I was up for consideration for the co-starring role in a Van Damme film (Kumite - not sure if it ever went to production). It all started as a joke reply to an email from a friend who was/is friends with Don Warrener of Rising Sun studios. Long story short - Mr Warrener got some photos of me doing martial arts, heard a little about my background, liked my "look" and wanted an audition tape on his desk asap.
"ASAP" was something like 2 days, and I was in Australia without any video equipment (and the same "WTF?" look on my face I'd developed after finding all this out) - needless to say, no tape got to the states within 2 days and my involvement with the film industry ever since has been limited to the local multiplex!
-
Galain, too bad you missed that opportunity. You could have bee a 'contendaaa' (Brando - On the Waterfront).
I think I saw two Van Damme films in my lifetime but I did meet him more than once and was surprised that he was shorter than I expected.
His film JCVD got great reviews but I've yet to see it.
BTW, Only Me is a personal friend of VanDamme's.

We saw Ironman 2 this afternoon. THe place was packed full but may people were leaving mid way through it.
I didn't like it at all but most movies I don't like make millions anyway.

haha, Yes, terrible all around. I don't know of a "superhero" that cried more than this fag.
Brutal little boy body.
I like how Hollywood got excited cause this guy worked out for 3 weeks for the role.
Pretty much a sign of the time, when a movie like Spiderman gets praise...very bad. ;)
-
I too went and saw Ironman 2 in IMAX today, and I FUCKING LOVED IT!!! It was incredible! And actually I enjoyed it more than the first one!
Wtf is wrong with you guys who didn't like it!

x2
the only part I didn't like was when Tony was drunk
-
the enemy in it was too weak imo - i mean come on a guy with 2 whips ::)
they would have been better if war machine and ironman went at it throughout the whole film.
-
Chris Evans as Cap - I'm keen to see it although I think Cap should be a little older.
I agree. I'm not sure how old Evans is (and i can't be arsed checking imdb right now) but i picture Cap being maybe 40-ish. Although i can't think off-hand from the comics how old he was when he gets the super soldier serum, i'm he's still a young guy.
It's not just age though, as Fatpanda pointed out Cap is a leader of men. He's a humble, modest guy with a commanding presence that guys respect. Evans doesn't fit into my image of a mature Cap.
-
How bout Andy as Captain America?
A great and veryfunny guy.
-
I wish they would put out a Defenders film, with the 3 or possibly 4 founding members of this "non-team": Dr. Strange, Hulk, Namor, and The Silver Surfer. Now dat would be real cool!
-
This takes us to the same road... wasn't supposed Thor to be like this perfect Caucasian fucker with muscles? (no fucking homo)
There is no actor capable of personifying such character... probably Gunter Schlierlkamp without talking too much...
Triple H ( Whatever his real name is ) looks like a Viking on steroids. He'd look the part perfectly!
Sigh... then again if Heimdall - character from Thor, guardian of the rainbow bridge between Åsgard and earth - is going to
be played by african-american... I would not believe it if I hadn't learned it right here from GETBIG
-
I think Evans is a good fit for Capt. America

wtf is he doing? Seriousy. I'd put him in the same league as Kai for disgracing the sport, what a meat ball

I think I'm quitting bodybuilding altogether after watching Andy and now this fool. I don't want to be associated with anything that has to do with this guy.

Grant, Ditto regarding “respect and like”.
But since we’re ‘buds’, that means we get to argue somewhat intelligently.
And in this case, I have to disagree with you a bit.
I don’t know Andy! I never met Andy! But I did see Andy and what appears to be his family on his web-site and now I really like Andy.
One day I got a Crazee Ware ad with Andy’s picture on it and I posted his photo under this topic as a possible ‘contenda’ for possible super-hero role consideration within the world of Hollywood.
Now …. here is where we put on them fight’n gloves! Stand by for a punch in the knee because we MMA dudes can hit back even when we’re flat on the mat!
I wouldn’t try to break anything because I really don’t think you meant or believe what you actually stated …. He is ‘a reason why the ‘sport’is dying.
I take offense to that, Grant! (Politely stated!)
You, yourself, have ‘been there / done that’ and have witnessed much worse ‘behavior’ than someone’s bad posing routine, all of which did not produce any adverse side affects and have any adverst effect on the number of competitors/members within the NPC or IFBB.
Regardless of what you and I think of the ways it’s all managed today, bodybuilding organizations and fans still continue to grow.
I’m not the expert in this matter but it seems highly unlikely that someone’s questionable posing routine would have a bad effect on the ‘sport’ of bodybuilding in the slightest degree.
Too many other questionable antics come to the foreground and yet …it still grows.
And if Andy’s routine encouraged anyone to ‘get out immediately’, I would guess that that individual was going to get out anyway with no help what-so-ever from Andy or his terrible posing routine.
In fact if Andy’s bad routine offended him or her, I would suggest he or she get out immediately because there are many worse and real offenses to look forward to down this bodybuilding road
I agree that that was one hell of a fooked up routine, but I also tend to believe that Andy did not use that routine while competing in a contest. More likely it was a routine he used as a guest poser in some small event someplace.
If you look at the next video of Andy’s routine on YouTube, you will see something completely different and more in line with a normal contest routine.
Many years ago I learned not to judge the military by what I conceived to be one private’s fuck up. Some of that might apply here.
I hope I presented this well enough to avoid a punch in the nose, but feel free to do so if any offense was committed on my part.
Thanks, Grant…. Stunt

I wouldn’t try to break anything because I really don’t think you meant or believe what you actually stated …. He is ‘a reason why the ‘sport’is dying.
I take offense to that, Grant! (Politely stated!)
Stunt, I admit my statement was too harsh. I take it back. You make some good points. I'm sure Andy is a nice guy.

Well, the Ronnie Coleman Classic is a decent show and qualifier. I just didn't like the routine. The arm waving, circus music and energizer bunny effect just made it seem that it was designed for 3rd grader audience?

Christ, what would white people do without "the robot"... ::)

Andy Haman is so cooooool!
wtf is he doing? Seriousy. I'd put him in the same league as Kai for disgracing the sport, what a meat ball
After watching this video, there should be no doubt in anyone's mind as to how gay bodybuilding truly is..

WTF did I just watch. Kai's stuff is not gay like this.

Thanks, Grant...... And I will bet ya a dollar to a doughnut that the judges felt the same as you did if in fact it was an NPC competition.
I coached and judged for many years and always recommended that contestants stay in one spot under the light and never 'encourage' the audience to respond to their routine.
One thing about the NPC though .... during my tenure there was no 'point system' pertaining to the posing round. It was (and probably still is) simply a matter of 'placements'. There was no physical standard to meet. It was just a matter of comparing one against another and placing them accordingly.
And as Bob previously stated, the highs and lows are discarded.
To be honest with ya, I don't think anyone can 'invent' a better system to determine the overall winner.
But a visual score board would definitely be a good idea to calm down the skeptics.
Has that ever been a serious consideration, Bob? I think it would make the contest more interesting to the spectators.
And while we're at it, I have never personally seen any form of cheating take place in any NPC event, but I have been involved in two contests (not NPC) in which an outward attempt was made to determine the eventual winner without concern of the official tabulations. (Above statement is solely based on my personal observations only.)
And it's highly likely that I've judge more contests (including powerlifting and olympic lifting events) than
Chick has ever seen, but I'll let Chick verify that. Or contest it. He's an honest guy.
Anyway, Grant, I'll end this by simply stating this .... We were mighty disappointed when you QUIT!! Some of us considered you to be "The Great White Hope" back then (definitely not a racist here) but you fell out of one 'picture' and into another.
Darn ya! PS .. Jeff introduced us a couple of times. The first time ... you looked American but had a funny accent. And you had or have a beautiful wife or GF at that time. Who was she BTW?
Thanks, Stunt (A Grant fan during his (Grant's) way too short tenure within the bodybuilding world)
