In his defense, some of the very best bodybuilders didn't have calves ;)

In his defense, everything went downhill since 2007, not just his calves. He just kept em in proportion. :D
-
Sad I never noticed his calves.

johnnie jackson is vying for top spot

Gotta love when these guys are running who knows what drugs and can't even build mediocre calves...haha, love it. ;D

calves are 100% genetic
-
calves arent just all genetic.. sure that affects it... but alot of guys just never train them.

im sure wolf and the dozens of other top pros with weak calves have weak calves because they just never thought to train them ::)

You can be sure that a Wolf trained his calves a 1000 times more often and harder than a Matarazzo. Matarazzo or Fankhouser were born with their calves, they never did anything special to them, so was Wolf.

exactly.
matarazzo even said he barely trained them at all, and that his dad had the same calves and never even trained at all.
-
i think your overthinking this a bit. most of the time when a body part isnt as developed as the others its because it isnt trained correctly or with as much effort as the othe body parts are.
now on the pro level most guys work out every muscle just as hard as every other.
HOWEVER there are two huge exceptions: forearms and calves.
alot of guys, even pros, dont ever really train them.
-

that is complete bullshit... anyone with an amazing body part has trained the fuck out of it.. they knew it was going to be amazing because they caused it to happen with consistant hard work
if he said he didnt do much for them it was his ego talking.

im sure the potbellied middle-aged men and chinese women you can see walking around with incredible calves put in 'consistent hard training' to develop them ::)

Exactly. Everything is cookie cutter amongst pros and gets targeted with variety of exercises, except you can't say that with calves and forearms. It's a grand coincidence that these two body parts also are supposed to be more genetically affected body parts. :D

Put those people in bed for 2 months and let see if those inredibly shaped huge muscles are still there after that...

whats your point? your entire body will wither if you are bedridden for months.
-
looks like the inside head of his left calf has been torn.

So are you telling us that muscle needs some kind of stimulation to keep it's current size? So it isn't magically there after all but it has a purpose for being there. ::) ;D I think we are getting somewhere...
-
I find it hard to believe that a professional bodybuilder doesn't train his calves hard. I mean isn't that kind of his whole job? And you know he must be conscious of it. I actually kind of respect guys like Wolf and JJ who clearly don't have any funny business going on with their calves.
-
I think that is calf and forearm thing has to do wit da fact dat they are boring as hell to train! I would much rather do some benches or pulldown than some wrist curls LOL

When Flex did their Big Picture article on Mike, he was pictured with his dad, who had HUGE calves---the mofos were cows. His dad was overweight, but you could see that Mike got his calves from his dad. Now, how much he trained them, who knows. He had consistently stated he rarely trains them for yrs.

True, James Lewis had a segment on the fitshow a couple years back, and he showed how he trained calves, and he trained the shit out of them.
FWIW, I do usually 2 to 3 exercises for calves, seated, standing, donkey, that's it. Sometimes drop sets, but mostly just heavy.

I think that they can be trained different ways. For black dudes, who typically have high muscles, I think high rep less weight works. I think Shawn Ray did that. I also remember when I went to a Orioles game as a kid and I saw this black dude with ginormous calves--but they were high. It seemed that all he did run up and down the stadium stairs---hence the high reps. In college I used to take a backpack of weights and go to fight of stairs in the dorm and do calf raises till they burned. i got better results than doing calf raise machine and seated calf machine in the gym...That reminds me, i still have a unused seated calf machine at my parents house.

I think what is clearer is the damage wolf has done since 07 - every muscle group has lost fullness and size, he already has the muscle wasting palumboism like klownmali
even his lower back was better in 07. big thumbs up for GH and insulin damage. dumbass

spot on, never seen a video of wheeler training calves, doesnt mean he never trained them but not as enthousiastic as with his biceps. What i dont understand is this, lot of big guys in my gym, pro size big, but never seen them train legs,, never squat, maybe some leg extensions once a month,

I never noticed his calves but you are SO right! By the look of how much worse is calves have gotten with a few years of hard training, he has no hope of bringing them up!

Regarding calf training, who's done calves using occlusion (also known as Kaatsu)? I saw Layne Norton mention it so I tried it and talk about pain. Absolutely insane. I have NO calves so I'm going to give this a shot for a while. :D
Occlusion training is restricting blood flow like this. Except I put on knee wraps under the knees.
-
restricting blood flow? doesnt sound like a good idea.
-
His lower lats have vanished as well.

Maybe youre not in the gym every night to know if they train legs ::)

I don't know if it "works" but if anyone has knee wraps try this right now: wrap your knee and below the knee real hard to restrict blood flow to the calves. Then do several sets of bodyweight calf raises with short rest periods. Tell me how it felt.:D Layne says not to leave the wraps on for more than 10 minutes for safety reasons. Like that's going to happen. I was crying after 2. :D
-
His back looks shittier than ever along with the rest of his body, so his calves are a moot point. He will NEVER crack top 5 at the Olympia ever again.

true caucasians don't have calves
he's toast webcke time to find another great white hype...
