Post by: dj181 on May 12, 2010, 09:16:28 PM

From what I hear, the whole 6-8 hours of sleep a night is outdated. 5 hours is enough.

If you have chemical aid and can make your body get 3 hours of rem sleep than you will be right as rain...

LOL!

I get by on 4-5 a night. The whole 6-8 is very subjective. Not everyone needs that much.

I enjoy 5 hours. I have to force myself to get up though. The bed keeps calling me back. It's nice on days when I have no obligations and I can just give in to sleeping more.  >:(

Was it Edison who averaged 5 hours? Well, I certainly aint no Edison LOL And speaking of psychosis, I guess that Arthur Jones, the inventor of Nautilus, averaged 4 or 5 hours nightly, and he certainly was psycho :>

highly subjective topic here...

personally, I am not the same person if I get less than about 8 hours.  If I have to function on much less.. I get irritable, and feel like I cannot think clearly.  I am envious of those that can get by on 5 hours, because for me, with that little sleep I can barely function in a professional capacity.

Anything over 7-8 hours makes me sleepy, 5 hours is JUST RIGHT...now if i work out,  it's still the same. I remember when i worked during the day time, if I went to sleep at 11:30pm-12:00am, after several days of having my alarm set to 5am, I automatically woke up at that hour---went out and jogged, and was ready for the day.

Sleep is the cousin to Death

 5 hours isn't enough.

If you're trying to get hyooooge bro! Then more sleep makes you grow more too.

If you do not get enough sleep, ever.. life takes on a nightmarish quality.. that’s all I know. Take it from an insomniac - sleep as much as possible.

im exactly like this. i struggle every fuckin day because my body does not fit into the 'normal' social working hours. cannot go to sleep before 1-2am. waking up any earlier than 9am and im groggy and irritable the rest of the day. need at least 8 hours to feel right.

with no alarm i'll sleep 12 hours easy. :-\ That the way i sleep on the weekend. Normally, i try to sleep at least 8 hours, 10 to feel good.

Wiki says that "sleep is a heightened anabolic state" but that deep sleep occurs early on, and the REM later on, so I'm guessing that this deep sleep is more important regarding this "anabolic state". Discuss... Yeah, I know that some fellas here are a bit weary of wiki

Just go with the flow. Try to get at least 5 - 6 hours of quality sleep every day and see what happens. If you're fine, then that's all there is to it. 8 hours is a rule of thumb that doesn't apply to every individual out there. Everyone sleeps different hours at different ages, in different places and so on.

If you are sleeping less than what you need, your body will make you rest for a few hours once in a while, to restore the balance. So no need to over-analyze it or try and force your body into more or less sleep, by making the arbitrary 8 hour number the goal to stick to.

Thanks Kiwiol, I guess that I just have the typical obsessive fitness enthusiast mindset, trying to overanalze every little detail, but I guess that what really matters is results.
