never doubt rednecks when finding innovative and unusual solutions to big, everyday problems.
anyone who's ever gone fishing with people like this know what im talking about
-
the shit i have caught fish with, would dazzle you guys...

very cool but I dont think its very realistic
they used all that hay for about a cup of oil...would require a mind boggling amount of hay.
and the hay would just float wherever it wanted it would be a sea of hay
Id like to see it done on a larger scale

this actual is not a new concept, they use straw when there are oil spills in rivers. I know they've used it at least as far back as the 70's so these two didn't come up with it. I do doubt it's realistic for the gulf spill. For some reason I don't see them being able to dump the quantity needed or have it soak up the oil hanging below the surface. In rivers they'll use bails to set up traps at varrious spots along the river and it works great for that.

I could see that working pretty well

BP could soak the Gulf in $1 bills, and still make $2 billion this quarter :D

Last I heard, they were scouring hair salons, pet groomers, and veterinary clinics for human & animal hair clippings which they intended to stuff into used nylon pantyhose to soak up the oil. :-\

That's interesting. Do you know if they are doing any work on making some type of artificial hay that would mimic the real thing and overcome problems with using the real stuff?

have no idea, I just watched them use straw to clean up a spill when I was kid, it looked like it worked pretty good.
