Manufacturing in New York Shows Surprise Decline
Published: Monday, 17 May 2010 | 8:43 AM ET Text Size
By: Reuters
A gauge of manufacturing in New York State continued to grow in May but at a slower pace, although the jobs gauge reached its highest level in about six years, the New York Federal Reserve said in a report on Monday.
The New York Fed's "Empire State" general business conditions index fell to 19.11 in May from 31.86 in April.
Economists polled by Reuters had expected a May figure of 30.00.
Employment grew for a fifth consecutive month, reaching its highest level since 2004. The number of employees rose to 22.37 from 20.25 in April.
The new orders index fell to 14.30 from 29.49 in April.
The survey of manufacturing plants in the state is one of the earliest monthly guideposts to U.S. factory conditions.
Stock index futures surrendered earlier gains around the time the data was released.
Elsewhere in economic news, foreign investors set a record for purchases of long-term U.S. securities in March, snapping up $140.5 billion and shattering a previous peak seen in 2007, the Treasury Department said on Monday.

Another good article http://www.zerohedge.com/article/empire-state-manufacturing-survey-comes-191-40-drop-april
Not good. CNBC is trying like hell to spin it as "good"....but a 40% drop month over month is not good no matter how many idiot economists on CNBC say it is. It seems the restocking and replenishing of business inventories is now over and it is back to Recession.

New York!!!!
Concrete jungle where dreams are made of,
There's nothing you can’t do,
Now you're in New York!!!
These streets will make you feel brand new,
the lights will inspire you,
Let's hear it for New York, New York, New York

Another song that tries so hard to be "epic" and "timeless"....but is to soaked in cliche's and and boredom to achieve that status.

Yeah, ok. I live hear bro - I'm sick of it.
Its 24/7.
Last night I had some bum come knocking on my window begging for cash in an angry manner for food. Its getting crazy.

LOL @ bums being "Angry"....
I swear, I almost snap ANY time a person approaches me for money. I work SO hard for mine, I spend SO MANY hours working... these pricks want $ for smokes or a 6 pack, and you know what?
SO MANY stupid people (usually young moms) will hand them over a $5 like they've done some great deed. Makes me sick. When I see someone making a beeline for me in the parking lot with my groceries, I instantly put my hand on my glock, raise my left hand and issue a command to stop right there. "No"... "Keep walking"... then "What the fuck, are your ears broken, get the fuck away from me you piece of shit" usually follow.
I think my 4th command would be "Down on the ground asshole!"
Sorry to vent... beggars piss me off like nothing else. You want some 'change'? Vote obama.

And the duality of 240 continues.

LOL.... I'm all for giving $ to charity, and personally, I help out SO MUCH with fmaily and friends who are in trouble... from buying glasses to neices, new outfits for 9 nephews and neices every month, etc etc - I mean, I seriously live to give, as lame as that sounds. I help out everyone, I'm usually the guy old friends call in a jam, etc. I'll give anyone a jump at 4 am, I'm always the one to lend $ to anyone in a jam, and I rarely collect.
But there is something about people who insist on you giving them money... I dunno... I just see red. I worked grocery stores for years in college, and I'd see the same drunks making triple what I made every night fetching shopping carts, just standing at the doors bumming $ from people. If you're going to be lazy, that's fine... but don't interrupt the days of hard-working people asking for their money.
You KNOW so many young moms and elderly will give $ out of fear. Easier for them to quickly hand over a few bucks and feel safe. And the 1 time a bum got off his bike and got in my face for money after I said no repeatedly... only 1 of 2 times in my life I've had to let another person see my weapon... the drunk idiot was practically in my car insisting I 'help him out'.
Sorry, there should be a night in jail served automatically for anyone who harasses another person for $ in public like that. My duality... lol!

Another dagger in the heart of America all in the name of globalization.
-
Unless we re-industrialize and built power plants, manufacruting plants, etc etc we are over.

two words - green tech.
You hate the idea but it's the way forward and way out. We can't un-globalize ourselves, we can't bring back those jobs from asia because the cost is too great, and the public is too used to paying cheap prices, but we can build an industry of need around the world. That industry is greener technology and energy.
-
I'm ok with green tech, just not that we give the money to wall street first to let them do their bs and then run ponzi schemes like cap & trade. i'm also not for taxing the crap out of people.

I was just being a jackass, bro. Anyways, I'm with you on this subject. I work a lot for my dough, try to save and be smart. I can't take bums and their begging. Plenty of "bums" make a lot of money, so much in fact that they don't need a job. On another message board there is a thread that has all the people that live in Chicago profiling the bums and catching them in the act of talking on their Blackberry's, chasing people down, being overly pushy and pointing out their "rotation" of spots that they fill, what different times of day they are there etc etc.
It's fucking sick. Too many stories of people buying "bums" food and water only to have it thrown to the ground followed by the "bums" shouting at them "I don't need no fucking food, gimmie money!"
