Or physically? I mean... if he wins and you don't like it, do you dislike him personally or do you just not like the physique?
Maybe the personal hating only starts after the competitor starts flappin his lips (like I'm doing)???
I'm thinking of a few BB's in particular. Some are outspoken, some are not. I'm thinking that when someone places higher in show than the expected general concensus, that people start disliking the bodybuilder... personally.
Am I high?

I think so

Only if they comment on the lack of Glute Striations

I think so
Shorter chick has better calves. Either she is older than the taller one, or she has been walking heels longer, or both...I like the glutes...

Often the physical criticism in BB is a result of character traits (or deficiencies). Like Flex had the greatest genetics ever but instead of working hard he shot lots of oil in his body and the result was obvious. You can love or hate his physique but it's a clear result of his character.
And guys who get Palumboism more often than not pushed the drugs to a degree that puts into question their decision making skills or character. We aren't just laughing at their body but also at their decision to do THAT to their body.
In a lot of ways, we are hating on them personally.
I'd like to think that I could separate my criticism for the physique from criticism about them personally, but I doubt I can.

Good logic. I hadn't really thought of it that way.

because bodybuilding is basically a pageant, where the competitors themselves are the product.....as compared to another sport where the product might be how they throw a ball or ice skate.
and since they are the product, it is IMPOSSIBLE for anyone to completely separate themselves from their feelings about that person when judging their physique......whether it is readily apparent, or more understated.....its always there
i try very hard to be completely objective, but even catch myself doing it sometime.........and i have NO vested interest in these guys and dont know them personally........now think of how impossible it is for these IFBB/NPC judges who are friends with many of these bodybuilders, do business with them, have them posing at their shows, such and such bodybuilder trains at this judge's gym......
the point is, personal feelings DO play a role
