This past weekend's "Strikeforce St. Louis: Heavy Artillery" event, which featured the long-awaited return of heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem to the U.S., drew an average of 308,000 viewers on Showtime.
A two-and-a-half hour special, "UFC's Ultimate Fights," which aired on Spike TV to counter-program the Strikeforce event, drew 894,000 viewers.
Compared to Strikeforce's most-recent Showtime-broadcast event, January's "Strikeforce: Miami," the numbers were down 40.43 percent from the 517,000 viewers that tuned in to see a pair of title wins by Nick Diaz and Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos along with performances by Bobby Lashley and Herschel Walker.
LOL! I know Spike has more viewers, but the UFC decimated a StrikeForce Heavy Weight Title bout with reruns. LOL!!!

Let's see how the anti-UFC chumps and super-twinks twist this one.....
No doubt about it...Strikeforce's last days are upon us.
Strikeforce was an ok org until they shit on the sport by allowing that thuggish street brawl on CBS. All the money the UFC has put into this sport and they allow that to happen. Good riddance!

If Strikeforce could actually pull off a decent event they might actually be able to be on a cable channel....
On second thought...not one network will ever support that amateur rinky thuggery they showed on CBS.

;D ;D
you try to hard at being a ufc guy ;D
Strikeforce aint going nowhere ::)

How much lower can the numbers get?
You think they will pull in 100,000 viewers next time?
Someone is taking a huge financial hit with Strikeforce. That is certain.

Didn't I qualify my post by saying that ::)
Even so, the UFC beat a live StrikeForce Heavy Weight title bout with a bunch of repeats. And what a beating...almost 3x as many viewers. How much did it cost the UFC to put those reruns on? How much did it cost StrikeForce to put on that event? LOL...I feel bad for them...almost ;D

I love it. Compare the numbers of a Pay Per View with a freebie on basic cable. Haha. Okay post up the money of each show they made that night. Post up how much the UFC got for those 2 hours and what Strikeforce made in Pay Per View and ads. We will wait.

The SPIKE replay was all REPEAT footage that had paid advertising throughout. It made money the first showing too. It was all previous PPV footage etc.
The Strikforce event was not PPV. Damn are you that stupid? Know your shit before arguing on here.
You take the cost of paying the Strikeforce fighters, plus production, promotion, and no on air advertising except Showtime boxing and you my friend have a major loss. 300,000 viewers. That is pathetic from any standpoint.
Plus this dismal viewership will haunt them in the future. Who is going to want to sponsor something with such a small audience?
Simple marketing 101.

Bro, seriously. Are you really the kind of person that argues about shit you know absolutely nothing about just for the sake of arguing ??? What PPV are you talking about? They were both free shows on cable channels ::)

That speaks volumes right there....
Strikeforce is so weak, the only channel they could land a deal with was Showtime.
They fucked up their deal with CBS and most likely will not be back due to that thugish brawl.
Days are numbered for sure.

Yea...Damn them they sure fucked up BIG TIME ::)
800,000+ views on a SPIKE TV rebroadcast.
Yea...Really fucking up on that one.
Amazing how they were able to grow their company so well internationally huh?

They are actually in a position where they can be picky about where their brand gets exposure. StrikeForce is simply taking whatever they can get :-\

Oh brother...you didn't mean that did you?
WWE is an entirely different type of situation.
There are many different kinds of broadcasting that pulls in bigger number then the UFC.
We are comparing that thuggish org Strikeforce to the top notch UFC.
You have to be joking in some of your posts.

the point is a show that is more well known and on a channel that people actually have will draw better ratings
you really didn't understand that?

Let me make it simple for you....
Strikeforce is an embarrassment to the sport. They are everything that people THINK is wrong with the sport in reality. You have the thuggish brawls, amateur commentary, and most importantly, boring match-ups.
Look at the latest card...come on, it was a snoozer. When you only put on one show every once in a while, you got to make them great.
Earl you have to be honest....Strikforce does not stand a chance. I used to want them to succeed as well, but when they tried too hard to be like the UFC, and failed miserably, all while allowing a thuggish brawl on TV, I turned on them. Good Riddance!
-

What you don't understand is that, yes it was a given that the UFC would beat StrikeForce, for the reasons already mentioned (bigger/better brand, more Spike viewers, etc.) However, they beat them, not by countering with a live Lesnar vs. Carwin heavy weight title bout, but with reruns. And they didn't just beat them, they had 3x as many viewers :-\
But that's beside the point. As the title of this thread states, StrikeForce numbers were down 40%!!! Bottom line: StrikeForce sucks and is declining. The UFC is awesome and it's growing. And, there is nothing you can do about it....lol.
-
yes i am completly outnumbered by tuf noobs that think griffin/bonnar 1 was the best fight ever ::)

I wonder how many people are aware that strikeforce as a company has been around since the mid 80's...

I've actually been to many of their events and have many friends/training partners that compete in StrikeForce. I think they're great as a regional player to find and develop talent. But, trying to be another UFC is going to sink them.

That is possible...however...As long as MMA continues to grow there will always be a Company like strikeforce...Until the UFC lands a major TV deal on ESPN(which brings in the real sponsor money like baseball ,football get) and shows weekly MMA fights(and absorbs all the fighters currently in other orgs) there will always be other company's that will pop up to fill a void...
I have heard people say there needs to be less UFC cards thats wrong...there needs to be a UFC card everyweek on a cable channel such as ESPN...The weekly cards would be mostly up & comers and journey men with the main event being mid level names..This would go along way to MMA becoming more main stream as well as giving the fans a better look at upcoming talent...PPV's would only consist of only top tier fighters either fighting for a title or a title shot...
Until something of this nature occurs there will always be an Elite XE,affliction,strikeforce...yea its possible strikeforce may one day fold as the others did but no sooner than that happens another company will take there place...It all comes down to supply and demand...There are more fighters with more talent coming up now more than ever before this requires more promotion and more fight cards not less...and until there is one org large enough to accommodate them all there will always be a strikeforce...

Shit well pardon me. I had no idea. I just come on here to fight. I don't research. Okay. I take everything back. UFC is the best. They should shitcan everything else. Did you get the coffee.

Fuck are we talking about the Overeem fight. I swear I thought I paid for that fucker. How else did I see it. If it was on showtime I don't have it so would I have had to pay for it. have to look at my bill
