I bet he runs.
Gingrich drops presidential hints
Posted: May 27th, 2010
From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney
(CNN) – Swinging through Iowa Wednesday to promote his new book, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich suggested he and his wife may be spending a lot of time in the key campaign state next year.
Though declining to discuss the specifics of his political future, Gingrich said his wife - who attended college in Iowa - may be preparing to make an extended return to the Hawkeye State.
"She likes being in Iowa and its very possible she'll be spending a lot of time in Iowa," he joked with reporters in Des Moines, according to CNN affiliate KCCI.
Gingrich has repeatedly left to the door open to a presidential run, saying last January that he considers his name to be on "a list of seven or eight possible candidates at this stage."
The former House Speaker has also remained significantly involved in the Republican Party, having been a constant fixture on the campaign trail for a string of GOP candidates this cycle. He's also appeared at several high profile party conferences and become a forceful critic of President Obama.
In fact, while promoting his new book, "To Save America: Stopping Obama's Secular-Socialist Machine," Gingrich took aim at the president's reaction to the oil spill off the Gulf Coast.
"It's been five weeks into this and the president has taken time to raise money, campaign, time to do everything but deal with the biggest single environmental problem in the USA," he said. "Why didn't the president take a commander-in-chief responsibility and what hasn't he established a command post in a sophisticated way?"
Gingrich said he will make a decision about a possible presidential run early next year.

He's 67, right?
2016 would be ideal - unfortunately we are probably looking at Clinton all over again, with Obama losing seats but keeping his job.
But given his age, it's now or never. He will be 70 when he takes the oath? Might be safer as a VP pick, with a more charismatic and squeaky-clean guy like Thune on the front of the ticket.

NEWT NEEDS TO GO AWAY.

Newton is not going to run
He knows he is political poison
He's just trying to keep his name in the media, probably trying to elbow in on Palin cottage industry of pretending to be interested in running to raise the fee for speaking engagements

At one point, I felt like he was the guy that we needed. I'm not so sure now though. I still strongly believe he would serve well in a cabinet seat.
He's DEFINITELY a much better choice than what we have now. President Bush won't be holding on to the moniker of "worst US president in history" after President Obama is done. I can't even imagine another 4 years with President Obama. Guess this is how the Bush-haters felt.

I think he's definitely qualified, but for me he disqualified himself for being a hypocrite during the Clinton impeachment.
I agree about Obama. What a disaster that guy has been so far. :-\

I can't understand any Mccain voter saying they wouldn't vote for Newt. Mccain readily admits he lied to his new wife about his old wife while consummating... he also carried on with many women while being married. Clinton got 1 BJ and lied about it. This dude did it for years.
You're either okay with adultery and lying, or youre not.
