Title: Wyatt Earp or Tombstone
Post by: Option D on June 04, 2010, 03:30:32 PM
I tend to like Costners more authentic portrial...But sometimes Tombstone is all hollywood western which is more entertaining. And Val Kilmer is a better Doc Holiday than Quaid..although quaid was very good as well..

Speaking of...Holiday was a real dentist from GA..

The Searchers. The Cavalry Trilogy. Once Upon a Time in the West. The Wild Bunch. Stagecoach. Red River. Unforgiven. Shane. High Noon. Josey Wales. Ride the High Country. Bunch of Tony Mann's films. Mal mentioned Appaloosa - that was pretty good except for what's-her-name. Great genre.

yes he had a degree in dentistry but he had to quit his practice due to the fact that he was always coughing and sweating due to his teburculosis.

tombstone is awsome and alot of it is right on the money historically speaking-not 100% but really close.  the differences are pretty negligable.  morgan and virgil were not shot on the same night and ed white was about 31 when curly bill killed him not an old man like he is here.
I've literally read up on everyone involved in the movie, it's all very interesting stuff.  I've never seen costeners movie but it's on my list of things to do.

I'm not my family is or was since most of them are dead.  I don't get shit.  I am the black sheep of the family.  I guess it was being adopted and all.

More jobs than you 10 times over. Only I did them all in the first 25 years of my life.  After that I took advantage of what I was good at.   Am I better.  hahaha I am barely better than the guy begging on the freeway onramp.  Even when I had alot of money and everything I needed my friends all worked regular jobs.  I never ever hung out with the rich snobs.  I would go to a party once in a while or whatever else I had to do but I like regular people 10000 times more than rich people.  In fact I despise rich people with the way they think there shit don't stink.  I hate fake smiles and rich snobby assholes have them all the time.

quoted for truth. Tombstone was a little too "Hollywood" for me. A dumbed down version of the story line.. Good for sales...because everyone liked the sensationalism. Bill Paxton should go down as top 10 worst successful actors in history.

Wyatt Earp followed the actual history more closely. I think Costner plays a pretty good hard ass....because it doesnt seem to fit his character as an actor.

Open Range is sick!! Love that fuckin' movie. Every time its on I watch it much to my wifes unhappiness. I just tell her to "fix me up some vittles and be quick about it......I aint gonna say it again"

Tombstone is better.

There is a good Western that I have not seen listed in this thread yet called "The Red Headed Stranger"  Willie Nelson plays a preacher and he caught his wife getting plowed by some other dude then he kills them both and heads out on a horse to another town to get some more pussy and get drunk.

Title: Re: Wyatt Earp or Tombstone
Post by: Flexb on June 06, 2010, 07:20:23 PM
Tombstone was more entertaining for sure, but they had to obviously enhance the action/drama by not accurately following the true set of events. There was never a one on one with Doc and Ringo, although Doc did kill Ringo, more accurately as portrayed in Wyatt Earp when Curley Bill, Ringo and one of the Clanton brothers (Ike) tried to ambush them.
The fight at the Ok Corral was another part that was off. In Tombstone Doc was never shot in that fight and I can't remember if he was in Wyatt Earp, but he actually was shot in the leg. Wyatt was the only one unscathed throughout the story and both movies had that right.

If anyone has seen Young Guns, another awesome western movie based on the famous Billy the Kid run to old Mexico, movies and books often aren't honest about his character. He was actually a snitch/rat.
