I signed up for internet only service with time warner cable about 2 years ago. i got the basic service which was 19.99. they call it road runner lite. which is fast and works fine for me. i chose the service because of the price. so 8 moths or so into it they raise the rate to 24.99. i called them and asked why, and they said its just due to rising costs. i hinted at leaving them and they didnt care. i stayed cause its the best deal in the area i live in despite them raising it to 24.99
So now just this month, they raise the price again. to 29.99. no letter no nothing. now i havent called yet and i want to really put it down on these fuckers. if anyone has any advice or experience dealing with this type of situation on the phone please let me know. i will be sure to post a follow up per your advices

Yep the get you signed up and start raising prices knowing that its a hassle for you to change service. My road runner is now 39.95 I started at 19.95. The phone stated at 24.95 now 34.95. Bad business in my eyes.

as the network grows your ISP has to hire new engineers and buy more equipment.....wireless controllers and access points aren't exactly cheap
here is an example below on the link of a wireless controller...
http://www.technooutlet.com/dhairwlc4404100k9.html?source=GGAN check out the price.....and in a 10 mile diameter an ISP might need hundreds of these...
also as an ISP grows ...the luxury to hire just low level engineers lessens....and top engineers cost $
i DO agree that some ISPs will jack up the price for no reason counting on you not to complain cause of the hassle....but consider the option i present also...
us engineers also need to make $

You obviously don't live where he does. 50k is poor in Montgomery County, MD, also known as "Money County"

Maryland is expensive....and i plan to live soon in Fairfax VA...also very expensive...
50k/yr will maybe get you a 1 bed room to rent in an ok area while living hand to mouth
Fairfax County, Va., Loudoun County, Va., and Howard County, Md., top the list of America's richest counties, which we based on median household income data from the 2006 census. In Fairfax, that number reaches $100,318 a year; Loudoun households pull down a livable $99,371 a year; Howard residents follow at $92,260

these companies are criminals, but it is the consumers fault, because we never really speak out with our pocketbooks

I was driving thru Fairfax a few months ago, nothing but Latinos and Asians, and this was busy traffic...hardly any white folk, black folk, Indians, Pakis, just Latinos and Asians, on the corners, in cars, etc.

fairfax is the Tech capital of the east coast...lots of IT engineers and engineers and doctors etc live here
actually i'm about 15 mins out of fairfax (haymarket VA) as i type this! :D
its not uncommon to have a 6 figure income here...but its not uncommon to go out for a dinner for 2 and spend over $100 either

Get a quote from another provider and tell TW you are moving unless they lower their prices. Also ask to speak with a manager. It sometimes depends on who you get on the line. Also it is a good idea to get you own domain from 1&1 or godaddy and use that for email in the future with an IMAP account. I am guilty of this too and now all my emails are going to my ISP email address. When I move to a new provider all my contacts have to be notified of the email change. Next time I move I will switch to 3rd party email providers.

But when a mob of bloodthirsty Getbiggers turns up to kick his ass, they'll end up kicking the neighbor around the front lawn instead while epic_alien enjoys the show.
