PHOENIX (AP) - Sheriff's deputies raided two Sizzler steak house restaurants in Phoenix on Saturday, arresting nine employees who are suspected of being illegal immigrants and using fraudulent documents to get jobs.

The raids were part of a yearlong investigation into whether the operators of the two Sizzler locations broke a civil law by knowingly hiring illegal immigrants, Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Lt. Brian Lee said in a statement.

Deputies were looking for 23 suspects wanted for identity theft, Lee said. Authorities believe one of the suspects was deported three times and has been hired back by Sizzler each time he returned.

The sheriff's office received a tip from a former Sizzler manager who claimed he had been fired for his refusal to hire employees without the proper documents, Lee said.

"This is another example of a case where desperately needed jobs are being occupied by illegal aliens who have disregarded our laws and our borders," Sheriff Joe Arpaio said in the statement.

Now this is the type of immigration enforcement efforts I can wholeheartedly support and get behind!

So, if I have your opinion right.  It's ok for the cops to get a tip and act on it, but if a cop stops someone for speeding and suspects they might be illegal, it's wrong?

Yeah, that makes sense.

Skip, the diff is that in this case, you have authorities quietly speaking to a store manager asking to see paperwork in the office.  Employers have to have this by law.  he isn't detained, he can walk away.  If the employees are legal, they never talk to the INS agent.  if they have a fake social, they've broken the law.

it's not like the manager is driving with a Cali ID and suddenly his ass is in the station for 8 hours as his woman tries to get a copy of his birth cert, ya know?

Still, I think if I lived among the crime in AZ, I might feel as you do.
And still, I believe if you were in cuffs for only having a Cali ID, you may feel as I do.

Yeah, that makes sense.

Not logic again.

I guess you missed the part about the 'year long investigation'
