Others may like it, I really do. Others like bench may like the Mustang, me I like a high rpm flat plane crank engine like

Although I am mainly a fanatic of highly tuned Japanese inline-4 dohc motorcycle engines I have to admit a HUGE soft spot for the General Motors lineup of both small block (mouse) and big block (rat) motors.
The 502 is an all out bad ass motor......Looks like that 502 in the vid is prepped for off-shore boat duty. There may be more exotic sounds but none more guttural and primitive sounding than a BBC that has been built.

A top fuel drag hitting 4's in the 1/4.
But in real man living in obama world, no there isn't

yes, a supercharged, 500 ci. hemi, on nitromethane with the fuel pump only about 1/3 of the way open, talk about response, and crisp.

on that 502, they sure have a big pully on top, put a small one on there and overdrive that blower, let it make some power!!!!!!
-
No, not a fan

my favorite sounding engine of all time is any LS1 with a MTI X1 cam.......
bench

When I was a kid I liked the deep loud sound on my cars. I have had two 66' Mustangs and immediately had Hooker headers put on them and glass paks. That was the thing to do back then. Thrush mufflers were popular too. Once I hit 25 or so I started enjoying the high revving European sports cars. Maybe it started when my Uncle took me for a ride in his new Testarossa on Highland between Marina Del Rey and Manhattan Beach. That stretch right there you can get up and go when empty.

Mustang Cobra with Kenne Bell = Beast.

Cant understand why anyone wouldnt like that. Simply because it represents the feeling of primitive brute roaring power with monster torque. Not to mention mufflers are laughed at on the water. As they say, chevy thunder!!! hence the roar of the BBC engine...

Hahaha. I love foreign cars dude but the torque of a BBC like the one in the vid shits on the AMG engines stats.

Theres nothing like the sound of an exotic v12, but the BBC is different somehow. Invigoratingly powerful.

this engine is designed to run at 5500rpm all day.
-
an 820 ci. bbc with 3 stages of nitrous , bumping the nitrous through the motor clearing out the lines after purging the nitrous system 1600 rpm to 7000 rpm without hitting the gas peddle, just barely bumping a button
-

yea i know man i have built many mercruisers, before and countless blown 540 bbc with 6-71 huffers they usualy run at0% over 0% under. those motors live forever man.

What do they say about the Lamborghini engines?

6000HP est. lol

i know many of you probably never have or never will drive something like this that goes from 0-240 in 5.96 sec, 820ci. making 3000hp at 8500rpm but i have , and that sound in person is the best sounding thing that any car lover could ask for, i have been lucky enough to drive and work on these cars for many years for a living, along with many other high horse power things.

GOOD LORD! ;D ;)
at the :44 mark what was he firing up in sequence like that from that overheard panel? Whatever it was it sure as hell was bringing online some extra punch each time.
-
those buttons activate the nitrous for the split second he bumbs the button, thos revs the motor because the motor recieves nitrous and fuel. this is done to purge the air out of the fuel side of the nitrous system and of course the nitrous is purged out into the air , that is the big stream of white mist each button works each individual system this car has 4 systems

Damn...that's some serious power right there.

Game over.
Fuck yeah gotta love the Countach, thing sounds straight up scary!
-
I know there all kinds of 5000hp+ alcohol engines out there that sound absurd, but I was more or less just talking about high HP daily driver engines that don't need to be rebuilt every 1/2 mile....
-

Bugatti Veyron SS, 1200 Hp---reliable hp, and top speed around 255+ . 300 kg lighter than the current car, and price 2 million. Which one would you take...straight line, or one that makes a woman's panties melt 100 yards away, but has AC to cool off?
-
i used to have a car that i drove everywhere man , it had a 598ci. pump gas motor, it only had like 9:1 compression, it made 1012 hp on the dyno, and then it had 2 fogger systems on it for when i needed to go fast. God knows how many miles that motor had i used to drive it from state to state to the races before i had a trailer. it was my only car for about 10 months man, it ran 7.80s in the 1/4 all day long with both stages turned on, it ran 9.90s on the motor, tagged , inspected, with e.t. street tires through the mufflers
-
bro, i would take the drag car. anyway women do what ever we want at the races just to hang out with usin the pit are, and to go and party after the races. and i have never been a fan of open wheel stuff or cornering, not saying its not exciting but just nothing i have been interested in, and i know many of the guys who race things like nascar or formula one, and some others. they say the same about us drag racers lol, thats cool that cars will go 255 but how long it take to get there??? thats my thing i like the acceleration , not soo much the top speed, top fuel cars make over 5gs, the car in the vid i posted makes 4.2 on avg.

Bugatti Veyron is a straight up hideous awful sounding car I dont care how much its costs, I'd take a Diablo over it any day.

Customers are paying for ultimate "refinement", not loud noise...It's a uber lux GT car, that happens to have the highest top speed of nay production car...I still think it looks like a flattened and stretched VW Beetle
-

I think it's due to the engine itself , like a Viper with a V10 those thinks just don't sound good at all , V12's V8's and hell even some V6's all sound eons better
-
i have heard some bad ass twin turbo v6 motors before, i know a guy that has a buick regal that has twin 76mm turbos on it and we shifts that fucker at 9800rpm. its crazy though, he had the crank lightened, i think he said it weighs like 17 lbs!!!! and it has billet aluminum rods of course, the rotating assembly is super super light. its a short stroke, big bore motor also, so that the weight is slinging around too far inside there
-

Prolly cause the Viper engine is not a DOHC with flat plane crank? The BMW V10, sounds like a beast, formula 1 like.

Totally agree. If I'm gonna buy an expensive car, it should at least make me spew in my pants everytime I start the thing. The dodge V10 is one of the worst sounding engines i've ever heard, second to the 16 cylinder quad turbo Veyron of course. Sounds like a giant vacuum cleaner.

Yeah the R8 V10 sounds worlds better too. Same with the Gallardo's V10.
-
PARKER what are you referring to when you say flat plane crank? I have worked in high performance machine shops, speed shops, top fuel team, pro mod teams, pro stock teams, and even tought machining to a class sponsored by autobahn and worked with racecars all my life and have never heard this term anywhere. I am just curious ? Is it like just something found with bmw or something?
-
Yeah the R8 V10 sounds worlds better too. Same with the Gallardo's V10.
Great points , they both sound much better than a Viper , I drove a 1996 GTS when they first came out and I'll tell you the sound was very underwhelming , nice looking car but it left a lot to be desired , I seen a Gallardo at full tilt and that sound was awesome.
-
Ferrari (and some other) V8s sound different from American V8s due to the construction of the crank which causes a different firing rate therefore different sound to the American V8.
ok cool so just firing order change, that changes the cam too!!! what cylinders get swapped, in the big ci. engines like 700 and up we often change 7 and 4 .
-
thats a good article, we change 7 and 4 due to the load put on the cam and the timing that it is put on it, with the size of the cams we run we use a valve spring that has just over 400lbs of seat pressure closed valve, and almost 1300lbs open valve. this was breaking the cam with the stock bbc firing order so when we swapped that it fixed it, its a pretty common thing now in drag racing engines anyway
-

nope.
