MOBILE, Alabama - Former Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell was arrested today for possession of a controlled substance, which we are being told is codine syrup, according to the Mobile County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff's spokeswoman Lori Myles said Russell was arrested at his home early this afternoon during an undercover investigation. He was booked into Mobile Metro Jail at 4:22 p.m.
Russell was released from jail on a $2,500 bond. He has a bond hearing on July 7 and a court date July 20. Russell played high school football at Williamson High School in Mobile. He played quarterback for LSU from 2003 to 2006 and was the No. 1 draft pick for the Raiders in 2007. Russell went 7-18 as a starting QB. The Raiders released Russell last May has been released.

Never sipped on syrup personally so I can't judge it's drinkability. What I do know is that Jamarcus isn't doing himself any favors right now. He needs to drop about forty pounds for starters and for god's sake man stop sipping on syrup. My prediction is he is in next years hot dog eating contest.

haha, when he was a rookie (I'm in a 15yr old fantasy league where we retain some vets and draft rooks/fa's each year) I picked him and then traded him to a Raiders fan in our league for a couple of draft picks and a player....hahaha.....

The dude wasnt worth a shit anyway, might as well get free food and a room. :D :D

Such a waste of talent. :-\

What talent? Physically, he could throw the ball a mile. But he was a fat slob who got paid huge $$$ before he set foot on a pro field. No motivation to get better or be a leader on his team.
But his short accuracy was awful. He couldn't read defenses and didn't have any pocket awareness. Not to mention he was dumb as a box of rocks.
I think he blows way past Ryan Leaf as the biggest bust in NFL history. Totally laughable that he was the #1 overall pick. Gotta love Al Davis.
I don't feel sorry for him. He made 38 million for doing practically nothing. He's the one laughing.

I don't think anyone should feel sorry for him. His work ethic and attitude were awful. The situation he was in with the raiders couldn't have been more wrong for him. How many head coaches and qb coaches did they have while he was there? That would be tough on young qb. The guy was never going to be a top tier qb but on the right team, with the right people around him, I think he could have developed into a solid nfl qb.

He failed a Drug test before he ever plyed a down in the NFL. :-\ I just saw that he had a Big arm and no mobility. :) Jamarcus made 30 Mill + off that one game against Norte Dame. :-\ :-\

Disagree. I don't care how many coaches he had. It was his work ethic and his motivation to want to be a good player that were severely lacking. He was always overweight and aloof about how to carry himself as a professional.
You can't polish a turd.

"You can't polish a turd" was stolen from Butthead!

Shouldn't matter who your coach is. Brady has had a few different O.C. and i think one of his QB coaches died, Manning has had several head coaches etc.. If you have any talent and motivation, you adapt to the system. Any QB with the right players in the right system can be serviceable. You don't draft a guy # 1 to be solid, you draft him to be an elite player.

That's a fair point, but every organization has turnover. Jamarcus is lazy, it's not coaching, the city or anything else.

I overheard someone mention he lost a close relative or friend which may have SOMETHING to do with his downfall. BUT he's not my problem Romo is my problem. Not as bad a JaMarcus but he has his MOMENTS!

::) ::) ::) Jamarcus had one good game in college and that was against a shitty secondary in Norte Dame.

The only positive thing i ever heard about him was how far he can throw on one knee. Whoopdee doo! Lets grab that guy. 1st rd pick all the way. But picking a qb is hard. We (Dallas ) struck in lucky with Aikman.....he was just so polished as a potential NFL qb...leadership and accuracy! Manning is another lucky strike. The rest are total long shots at greatness. Its a tuff job to be the one to pick the right guy. But i feel Tebow's leadershp makes him the only gu yi see being up there with Aikman and Manning. As far as MY QB goes....he does great stuff but has too many dumbass moments but he wasn't drafted or aproduct of a BIG SCHOOL! But if he gets a ring it will put him up there as a Dallas great!
