Title: Has Mir become the gatekeeper ??
Post by: Captain Equipoise on July 07, 2010, 10:27:17 AM
Certainly looks that way...just a stepping stone to get to the next level...

What do you guys think? any Mir fans in the house?

I don't know if he has quite gotten there at this point considering his last two losses were to the guys fighting for the Heavyweight Championship this last week. Plus in his next fight he should be towards the top of the card.

I would say Cheick Kongo would be more along the lines of a traditional, mid-level card "gatekeeper".

I think it all depends on what he is able to do over his next couple of fights.  If he has some decisive wins over good level competition, he'll be right back in title contention.  I'd like to see him in there against Big Country.  They both grappled once, and Roy Nelson beat him.

His last two knockouts were pretty brutal KO's, either way I think he's on his way there.

Frank's career has always consisted of big highs and low lows.  That's what I like about him.  I think we'll see him come back strong, but not likely ever hold the belt again.

he's the same thing.....just a tester for newcomers.....nobody ever plans on them to win.....just make sure the new contracts are able to fight, or make money...

I've always considered Mir to have the fighting ability of a gatekeeper. He was a product of the Dana White hype machine. Went from being a can to a perceived top HW and back to a can in the span of a year.

I never saw Mir as a true HW champ... his record is too checkered..

With the current talent in the HW division, I don't see Mir ever holding the belt again.
But to call him a gatekeeper....not so sure.

What would you call him?

gatekeeper = stepping stone for the next level.. ie. the top 5
