Sounds like a maudlin drinking man. Maybe like Oscar Levant? No! A Google search comes up with no hits. George Nathan was famous for saying 'I drink to make other people interesting.' I've always liked that one. Any other hints?

ya I could be--it was said to me by someone else but along those lines
