yup
hurt my knee doing squats about three weeks ago. i do squats ass to the floor, and i got 405 for 3 reps, which was pretty gud for me since ive been doing high volume stuff for legs and never got under a heavy weight like that before. the next set with 315 at about 8 reps or so i felt my left knee pop out of its socket and away from my body, immediately racked the weight.. didnt reall hurt me so i continued training legs and even trained them again about 4 days later. then i was at work and one of the kids i was teaching to swim jumped off of me and kicked off of my left knee in order to get a head start for the wall. it hurt like a 8 out of 10 on a number scale and i was kind of in shock and numb throughout my leg. since that day i havent been able to move my leg too much, but after a few days of swelling it doesnt really hurt unless i bend it too far.
just got the mri done today. gonna kno on monday if i need surgery

Steroids perhaps were the factor.
-
was it the weights or the kid kicking your shit?
-
idiot drug addict. serves you right
-
I bet it was an existing injury that you made worse by heavy lifting.
Tearing your meniscus while doing squats at your age is very very rare, even on AAS.
Have you ever injured that area in the past playing sports or riding your dirt bike?

Take care of yourself man. Hope your knee heals quick.
-
First, you are only doing 405 for 3 with all of the drugs you are doing?
Next, you are out of what? You are not a professional athlete of any kind. You just can't train legs. Quit crying and get in the gym!
-
CONCENTRATE ON DELTS FOR THE NEXT 6 MONTHS!

I dont understand how a torn meniscus will keep you from posting. ???

LOL
Get some cissus and alflutop for post surgery, if it comes to that. Also the obvious pharma GH ;)

I tore my ACL but was racing motocross, a real badass sport not like gay bb. ;D Never got one injury from lifting, lift hard AND smart. Steroids the cause? Who knows? All you hear though is that your muscles grow faster than your ligiments and tendons can keep up with. Does this apply here?

That's usually a sign you might want to ease up for a while... I don'tthink knees are supposd to do that ???
-
what role will illegal steroids play in the rehab of said knee?
-
Its not the weight or squating deep, its the volume, overuse. Your not an athlete, you don't run and the meniscus does not heal, deal with it or get surgery, if you get surgery you'll walk out with no crutchs and will be back in the gym inside of a week, week in a half OR just not have it done. You DO have that choice.
-
that surgery is free here in Canada

were you using eq or deca when this happened ?

Jay Cutler just breathed a sigh of relief.
-
Shouldn't matter what he is on, the question is was he off. If he was off chances are he might have been trying to train at the same capacity as if he were on, that how most athletes are getting injuried. (No, I'm not suggesting tbombz is an athlete in anyway, shape or form)
-
I had a torn menicus which made my knee "slip" every now and then like when walking down the stairs. With orthoscopic surger it's no big deal. Crutches for about a week and then some rehab and within a month it's back to normal. You can start training legs like extensions and leg presses after the first week. Just go light and easy. It's just to prevent atrophy.
Avoid those inside massages you like because if you are on all fours or on your back with your knees pushed back near your ears you might strain it. If you must, you can lay flat on your stomach with your legs exteneded and some pillows under your hips. That should be OK but no rough stuff.
-
This was gods will.
-
I've had meniscus surgery on my left and my right one has been torn for about 4 years. I still do every thing normal. Things that hurt...sprints which I do twice per week but only when I'm done and walking 18 holes of golf. You're only 21, get it done, you'll walk out with no crutches on your own and be back training in a week, week and a half and 100% in a month.

Bad luck, dude.
I broke my leg about two years ago training... just try to stay focused on what you're trying to achieve and try not to get too fat.

Coach, I'm no expert when it comes to lifting injuries but I've been around world record powerlifters for most of my life and did some heavy lifting myself with some of the world's best and I think that most of them would differ with your opinion that "it's not the weight or squating deep, its the volume, overuse."
I've been told that the main reason for knee injuries among heavy squatters is due to the fact that they constanttly squat below parallel. And I have seen some serious knee problems /injuries among those lifters who continually go ass to the grass with the heavy weights.
I find it interesting that you think otherwise.
Thanks for your insite though as I am not a know-it-all when it comes to the subject of sports injuries.
Can you be a bit more specific regarding your opinion why heavy squatters often have knee injuries?
Bomz, don't let this injury keep you out of the gym. Just avoid leg work until you completely recover. Duuuhhhh
-
Sorry to hear it Taylor...........stay strong, you`ll be back bro.
-
I had a slight tear I never got repaired and it took 3 years to recover. Well it still hurts at times. Get it fixed if possible.

I think that sounds right when using a wide stance. Going to the floor with my feet close together pointing forwards always felt alright though.

youre probably too heavy
lose weight and help your knees
-
Steroids perhaps were the factor.
eh, maybe, but i dont really think so.
was it the weights or the kid kicking your shit?
i think the weights caused a minor tear, then the kid caused it to tear even more. not sure though.

your probably right, because i had some pain in my knee for a while, not pain during exercise, but pain when i would flex the quad with my knee locked out. but i dont ever remember injuring my knee before.
Take care of yourself man. Hope your knee heals quick.

Ouch.
A torn Anus is nothing to sneeze at...how long till the stitches come out taylor ?
-
quick update- went to the ortho today, need to have the part of my meniscus thats torn sliced off. the operation is next thursday. should be a few weeks till recover after that. one bit of good news is that he gave me the go ahead to start training my calves lightly so long as my legs are extended (knees not bent)

Thats great, I can finally breathe easy and get on with my day now.

Perhaps its the steroids?
Your muscles are getting stronger, but not the tendons/ligaments. They only get stronger over the years with lifting.
Take it easy.

well the meniscus is not a tendon or ligament its the crtlidge between the humerous and the fibula/tibia.
not sure exactly what caused the tear, but likely a combination of going as deep as possible on squats and poor form along with it.
-
You will be squating again in a few weeks.
When i had my ACL reconstructed over 3 years ago i was squating 315 in less than a year.
The operation you are having is nothing compared to what i went through.
Good luck.

ya thanks man i was real worried for a while that it was going to be a life long knee problem, luckily its not a tendon or actual muscle tear, because i feel like that would probably give me some lasting issues (even if they are only psychological)
-
def lose some weight
itll help keep your knees and joints safer in the long run
good luck w surgery
