Congratulations to Ben White for defying all odds and beating an incredible looking Troy Alves to capture the title. Ben White, Troy Alves and Johnnie Jackson are all going to the 2010 Mr. olympia to compete.
I remember a bet that Bob Cicherillo did saying that Ben white won't even make the top five, and that Darrem Charles was going to win this contest.
Hmmm.....
2010 Tampa Pro Men’s Bodybuilding results
1 - Ben White (USA)
2 - Troy Alves (USA)
3 - Johnnie Jackson (USA)
4 - Edward Nunn (USA)
5 - Michael Kefalianos (Australia)
-
But Bob always said........ ;D
-
If there's two things you can count on they are whatever Bob or Ron say on contest picKs, don't put any money on it.

Correct. He was 20 plus pounds heavier, fuller, great condition. Troy looked sick, with some outstanding condition to be fair, was a toss of a coin between the 2. Ben looked spot on!!

Talk about smooth, no legs, no calves, no thickness, and tough overhyped by a major sponsor and taking 2 years off not being able to crack the Top 5 in a 3rd tier show.

I beg to differ with your assessment, except for the "smooth" part. That pretty much killed it for Curry.

Great job!! Now, is White actually going to compete in the Olympia? Or is he still doing that "World's Strongest Bodybuilder" thing against Stan Efferding (BTW, did Efferding compete in this show? White referred to him as a "powerlifter who occasionally competes in bodybuilding shows, usually placing in the top 17, if he's lucky").
Can he do both, per IFBB rules? I know how Draconian they can be, regarding letting people compete in multiple Olympia events. They banned the 202-guys from doing the open Olympia after 2008, when Kevin English and Dave Henry did both (Earlier that year, English won the 202 at the NY Pro and placed second to Kai Greene in the overall. Rumor had it that English actually got MORE MONEY than Greene, by doing that; hence, we have the ban).
Back in the day, they banned Masters Olympia competitors from doing the regular Olympia after 1995 (when the late Sonny Schmidt won the Masters and placed 13th in the regular O).
I hope the IFBB lets White do both contests (WSBB and Mr. Olympia). But, based on the history I just mentioned, I wouldn't bet on it.

right on point..............good thing he convinced his sponsors he needed two years off to come in not all that much different then his last show

Well, at least he didn't come in much worse after a 2 yr lay-off like Brewer did. BSN should appreciate this and up his contract. ;D

Give him time. White went through the same ordeal. He got hyped to win the NY Pro his rookie year but finished a modest sixth. Two years later, he actually wins a show. The same can happen to Curry. He just showed up smooth, which is usually "game over" for bodybuilding competitors. If he gets ripped, he'll be a force.

i think in all actuality this whole thing you see these guys doing these days where they take lots of time off between getting theri pro card and competing is a way to guarentee their relevance for 2 years , it benifits both the athlete and their sponsor
think of it..............if brandon ray immediatly came on to the scene and started doing shows........and finishing low in 3rd teir shows like this...............the buzz on him would have quickly faded out............like it now will
.
but by him not competing..............t hey were able to keep the buzz up for these past two years because everyone kept talking about when he will make his debut
its a way to stretch a dollar im guessing

Didn't he just take off two years to fulfill that potential? Didn't he just finish 6th in the worst show of the year
Those legs and calves are hopeless.
He's a fraud who will never bring the conditioning he needs to the stage.

Do you guys think Bob Chicks life was better when 1)he was single with no kids, basically broke, juiced to the gills while he living in Cali. Or now, 2)married with children, steady upper level income and out of bodybuilding type shape?

I don't think there's a rule against doing both, but Ben mentioned after the show that he's doing the Olympia this year and maybe the WSB next year. Now that Johnnie is qualified for the O, will he even be doing WSB?

The IFBB typically hasn't let people do two Olympia contests. As I stated, after Sonny Schmidt did the Masters and regular Olympia in 1995, they banned that in 1996. WHen Kevin English and David Henry did both the 202 Olympia and regular Olympia (English also won the NY Pro 202 and placed second in the open show), they banned that, too, the next year.
Jackson has already stated that he was not doing the WSBB contest. He did consider training White for it, however (according to FLEX). It seems their common movitation, if any, is to shut up Stan "Rhino" Efferding. I refer you to the shot White took at Efferding.
-

No, he cant...
We do not want to put any athlete in a position to get injured, and being dieted down / competing in a strong man competition is about as far apart as it gets when it comes to preparation...
-

So, the concern is injury, not doing multiple Olympia shows?
White can argue (as could Efferding, if he actually qualified for the Olympia) that he could do both shows. Though he claims he can't do so now, due to age, Johnnie Jackson says he competed in (and won) a powerlifting meet, three weeks before winning the Nationals in 2001.
Efferding also said he did a meet shortly before winning the Masters Nationals in 2008.
So, it appears that "Rhino" will get the "World Strongest Bodybuilder" title by default.

But ridiculously water depleted steroid monsters flexing their muscles to the point of hypoxia doesn't seem to be a problem.

Stan efferding isnt really a IFBB pro bodybuilder tho, he looks like a powerlifter to me

Doing them on the same DAY, would not be in the best interest...were not talking weeks before. There is no arguing the point, were simply not allowing it

Everyone who has seen Bob Chick in his prime has said that he was as wide as a house with a thick massive back. But was it better than Ben Whites?

When I first read your thread title I thought it said Bob Chick on Ben Weider, which I found strange as Tom Prince said Bob was a submissive bottom.

bob looked like a melting statue w super weak forearms and big eyebrows
ben is better

Both don't squat. True Iron warriors!

Funny as hell. Ben and Bob on PBW talking about a wager they made before Tampa show. Looks like Bob picked Ben to finish lower and Ben stuck it up Bobby's ass by winning the whole show. The wager had something to do with drinking tequila and Bob has never even been drunk in his life.
Bob choked down the tequlia, but will be drinking Patrone next week if Ben White gets #1 in the Hartford show.

that's stupid, if the "athlete" wants to take the risk you guys should just let him.
it's his body

Lets hope Bob doesn't turn into a raging alcoholic like many on this board.
