Title: GEORGE LYNCH: Bodybuilding Was 'One Of The Silliest Things I've Ever Done'
Post by: YngiweRhoads on July 19, 2010, 09:24:15 PM
Hahahaha!

http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=143187

Revolution Magazine: Are you still bodybuilding?

Lynch: No, that's one of the silliest things I've ever done. I felt so anti-musical. Even the guys from VH1 were making fun of me. It also makes it difficult to play. But no, I just work out now to stay in shape.

I guess it's just trendy to train 5 hours a week and pretend you dont cause "bodybuilding is for losers"... that you just "try to stay in shape" whatever that means...

well known people know being associated with lifting weights makes you immediately look like a moron in the eye of the genral public.

He's pretty badass:

But at one point he really was jacked...

I just don't get this whole lying. He even lies about knowing music theory, but when he begins to explain some licks he made, he's all of a sudden talking about major sevens and minor thirds etc. Still, he's one of the best guitar players. Amazing speed, phrasing and note choices...

I get tired of these hollywood types juicing for awhile claiming their gym work ethic got them there.  How many movie stars look fantastic for movie and look like they never lifted a weight 6 months after the movie is out?

haha, only a true-blue Tar Heel would get that reference brother!  One of my all-time fav Heels!

And this imposter skinny-twink needs to go back to 1987 when 50 people bought the Dokken albums.....that was his peak.

From what I recall, he really didn't know anything but started taking lessons later down the line (near the end of the Dokken era).

Love me some George Lynch!

First pic is from the 80's, before he started lifting.

It's hard to find a pic of him from the 90's-00's where he was fairly well built.

i think i know what he means, especially for a shredder type guitarist if your forearms/hands are sore, or even fatigued from a hard pulling/pullup workout, your playing is not going to be as fast or sharp. and you cant play as long. for me at least. it feels like you are going to get carpal tunnel

Ditto...I like Vai's style and sound..he's really out there.

I'd like him even more if he didn't act like a homo with the faces and gay moves when he's wailing

Since we're talking about a guitarist here, and many of you seem to play guitar... has anybody here checked out the Axe Fx?

this guys music is generally pretty weird and i dont get into it too much (with the exception of a couple masterpieces), but as a guitarist id say he is overall the best in the world.

Vai is amazing but I'm sure the best guitar player in the world is probably playing in some shitty club right now just waiting to be discovered.

It looks like an outboard FX processor. Nothing special. Do you absolutely NEED an outboard piece of gear for gigging or are you just feeling like you need it? If it's the latter, sit it out.

I used to swear by amps, tube and solid-state alike. I'm more than fine with software nowadays. I still have a few amps and combos, but they get less and less play by the day.

IMO there is no "best" guitar player...depends on what you like. there are thousands of guys who are technical freaks and can do anything with a guitar

Perfect example....my brother was having his house painted, and the painter happened to notice my bros electric sitting there. So he asks if he can pick it up and proceeds to crack off some seriously insane shit while he's still talking to us

thats the cool thing about today...back in the day the only way to hear a guitarist was to hear their album, or to see them personally. the great players like Eddie van halen were looked at like Gods and left most people thinking they were some kind of superhumans who were famous because they could do things no one else could....nowadays we have youtube and we can see that there are literally tens of thousands of random people out there who are just as talented as the 'stars'. kind of puts a damper on their mystique and sense of awe when you realise theres 12,000 dudes playing in their rooms somewhere who are just as good as the 'stars'.

Isn't it mandatory for all great guitarists to all that weird shit with their mouth?  SRV, Hendrix, Page, etc... ;D

His play is cool - somewhat cheesy.
Technique is stellar.
