What's the tiny metal iron-type thing pressed on MMA fighter's faces?

We were watching MMA fighting and after one of the rounds, we saw a trainer pressing a tiny metal thing that looked like an old clothes iron that was about 2"x1" with a tiny handle coming off the flat part. It was being pressed on his cheek. Is this to reduce swelling or something, or what does this little thing do? Thanks.

Yup, it reduces swelling by dispersing blood and fluids that pool around the damaged area.
