After years of speculation and wishful thinking, it appears that Scarface 2 is finally becoming a reality.
Says who? Only Martin Bregman - the producer who masterminded the 1983 remake, starring Al Pacino as Tony Montana, of the 1932 gangster flick Scarface, starring Paul Muni as Tony Camonte.
Marty: Raising Son of Scarface.
In a BlogTalkRadio exclusive, Marty, who also produced such Pacino classics as Serpico and Dog Day Afternoon, confirms that a sequel is forthcoming.
“Well, we’ve killed everybody else. So it’s gonna be tough,” he tells Film Festival Radio host Janice Malone when she asks if there will ever be a Scarface 2.
“You can’t have the Pacino character - pick him up from where he was shot and have him say, ‘You missed!’” Marty, 78, continues.
“No, there’s a way to do this, but it’s not that way. It’s not gonna be the same, with the same character. It can’t be. It could be with the son of that character, but it can’t be with that character.”
Then, when Janice says, “A lot of people who I know are diehard fans and they were hoping that maybe it would be the son or the grandson or something like that,” Marty comes clean, telling her:
Proud papa: Al in the Brian De Palma remake, written by Oliver Stone.
“No, it is the son. We’re working on that now.”
Marty - who later tells Janice that The Godfather is among his three favorite films of all time - also reveals how he once made Universal Pictures an offer they couldn’t refuse.
“I understand that the studio head [at Universal] initially did not want Denzel Washington cast in The Bone Collector and you did, and obviously you won. Is that a true story?” asks Janice of the 1999 flick co-starring Angelina Jolie.
“That’s a very true story,” says Marty. “It took place in a meeting. I wanted Denzel. Denzel was my primary choice. Because he could play this role.
“Remember, I’m talking about a character who couldn’t move any part of his body other than one finger. So all the intelligence this guy had had to be released through his face… I needed a real actor. And Denzel is a real actor.
“And when I went in and they turned me down, they said, ‘Well, we’d have a hard time marketing Denzel in the South and in the North-South’ - they started to give me territories where a black actor is not going to do any business.
"It was because of a threat," Marty tells us of Universal's eventual agreement to cast Denzel (above).
“So at one point during the meeting, which was a number of people, I asked to be alone with the head of that division.
“And I said, ‘Are you aware that your chairman, [Edgar] Bronfman [Jr.], has four black children?’
“He was married to a black lady [Sherri Brewer] then. He had three black kids. How do I know? Because two of them were friendly with my daughter.
“And I said, ‘How is it gonna look if this gets out?’
“And he said, ‘How’s it gonna get out?’
“I said, ‘Trust me, it’ll get out.’
“And the next day, I got an approval.”
How the fuck do you make a movie about a legend like tony montana yes i know he was trying to give his wife a kid and she split on him and its possiable that she got pregnant but knowing hollywood this will be a total piece of crap sequal even thou the SCARFACE was very much a raw movie and was appriciated more when time passed
THERE IS ONLY ONE CONAN, AND ONLY ONE TONY MONTANA

say hello to my little friend

I might be wrong here but I had heard that someone was already working on "Scarface Jr." which was planned to be somewhat of a continuation of the original but must bloodier and more provocative with the use of real names of individuals within political office and other highly observed and respected positions within the US and South America.
I guess someone made sure that that story would never be told on the silver screen.

There are just some movies that you don't need to make a THIRD time. The remake was a contemporary cult classic in '83. A third movie would likely suck bad but $ talks.
Hollywood, in general, is so dried up with fresh, original ideas. There are just too many remakes and sequels to movies that shouldn't have one.

Because they keep making money. They'll continue to make them until people stop going to see them.

That's because the majority of our population are fucking sheep. They wouldn't know good entertainment if it hit them in the fucking face. People should expect better.

Hollywood has been recycling movies/ideas since before there was a Hollywood. Should look up the original Scarface with Paul Muni. It's up there with Cagney's 'Public Enemy' and Eddy G's 'Little Caesar.'

I've seen the original, it's great. But the remakes and reboots, and the sequels are happening way too much. I think that's mainly because Hollywood lacks originality these days when it comes to storylines and plots. There are a few exceptions here and there and I'm always willing to tune in.

What if Gina and the baby survived?

Good attitude. I love the Hollywood golden age/studio system movies, but you know what? They made a lot of crap then, too. Took my nephew to see Inception, today. Besides a few scenes of info-dump (and I understand why Nolan put them in), I thought it was quite good. Some absolutely spectacular visuals and a neat storyline. Ambiguous end was much appreciated by me.

This guy would make the perfect Tony Montana in Hollywood 2010...

The original movie is an absolute classic and wrote the book for a lot of movies to come. The remake was in the typical Brian De Palma style of the end of the '70 early 80's. Almsot a parody, taking it to the extreme while still being very faithful to the core of Hawks' movie. I don't see how they could do a follow up to it as in
the 80's version, I kind of remember that Tony not having kids was a part of his downfall.

Can't be worse than Starship Troopers 2 or American Psycho 2, these have to be the two all time worst sequels ever.

I watched all of it although it was quite mediocre. I liked the "fuck me in the ass" talk scene with the old man at the pool table though.
Did you see that scene Brock Lesnar Swede?
-
Spider-Man is also getting remade, they've already got a new actor and it will start from the beginning again ;D

Tremors 2 wasn't a masterpiece either. But then again, the first one didn't win any academy awards.

Wow, how EX--CI--TING!!!
After they fucked up Venom, that's the best thing they could have done.

Well, if you knew the directors story you'd know why he was literally "forced" to do a sequel.

Scarface is so dated it's not even funny , it's comical to watch now , back in the 80s I thought it was good but now it's hard to watch

You could have simply said why instead of posting that long-assed video.

It's just the first Part of 9. :) You don't have to watch it if you're not interested.

True. I saw 'Overnight' a million years ago. The only thing I took from it was that Duffy was a bit of a heel and mistreated his friends. What does that have to do with why he HAD to make a sequel? I know that there was something up with the company that he had distribute the film. Was that it?
Basically, I'm saying, a long time has passed and the details are fuzzy. Can you just post the gist? :)

No studio bought the movie, he didn't see a dime from the DVD/TV-sales, his band flopped, and he wasn't able to mount any other projects or get any writing/directing gigs in the years to follow. Making a sequel to his afterwards cult-movie (the only movie he has ever done) was probably his only chance to get some food on the table.

Caddyshack II is by far the worst sequel in the history of sequels. Quaker Oats was also a horrible sequel to the Squad Father

OHHHHHHH...I get what you are saying. Yes, he got shafted BIG TIME (five screens for a box of $25k, record flop, etc). The doc was great in showing his hubris and ultimate downfall. He burned so many bridges and stepped out of line with so many people along the way. I'm truly surprised the sequel got made at all. I'd love to see a doc about him getting back on the horse.

So, Susan Fitness would be the Godfather III that we don't even mention?

Chances are, that they will always eff up Venom, Carnage, Anti-Venom, Kraven, Rhino.
Hopefully Capt. America will be good, wonder how they will do Red Skull.
Still waiting on Black Panther or Luke Cage, and Avengers.
BTW, Three Ninjas 2 sucked as well, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 with Vanilla Ice.
They should do a Ghostbusters 3.

Venom sucked badly , Captain America I think will suck you really can't sell that campy costume unless it's a period piece set in the 40s
Black Panther would suck he would just look like another ninja , Luke Cage would be good and the Avengers has potential but you know how they always fuck up these superhero movies ...to many character and to many sub-stories ( see Batman the nipple days )
Ghost Busters 3 would be a great idea with the technology they have today , I'm still waiting for another Spawn movie , I like Michael Jai White was Spawn and it kicked Batman's ass that year
Hollywood just keeps pumping shit out like Catwoman and Daredevil and Elecktra , etc they don't care about the integrity of the movies just the bottom line , they see other superhero movies breaking records and will try and jump on the bandwagon and this creates shit
I thought the Hulk movies blew btw

They should let the "Twilight"-bitch write the script.
Some homosexual action, no sex scenes, some action that wouldn't excite a 3 year old. 2010's teenagers will love the movie.
Maybe I7m the only one that thinks Spider-Man had some muscle in the comic book...
