Although recent rumors suggested that Tito Ortiz would return to the Octagon for a rubber match against Forrest Griffin in October, Mike Chiapetta at MMA Fighting has learned this is not the case, and confirmed with UFC president, Dana White, that Ortiz will fight Matt Hamill at UFC 121 in Anaheim, California:
A source with knowledge of the situation told MMA Fighting that "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" will face Matt Hamill at UFC 121, and UFC President Dana White subsequently confirmed the matchup in a text message.
The match-up is intriguing as Ortiz coached Hamill on the third season of The Ultimate Fighter, where the two bonded closely. Ortiz, who is progressing well in his recovery from spinal surgery, has often spoken fondly of Hamill, but the two will put that relationship aside in October.
The rumored card for 121 now includes:
Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez
Jake Shields vs. Martin Kampmann
Tito Ortiz vs. Matt Hamill
Diego Sanchez vs. Paulo Thiago
Brendan Schaub vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
Court McGee vs. Ryan Jensen
Chris Camozzi vs. Dongi Yang
Sam Stout vs. Paul Taylor
Patrick Cote vs. Tom Lawlor
That's a solid card right there!

Outstanding card.
Interesting match-up with Ortiz/Hamill. Two wrestlers. One humble. One a huge ego.
Damn good time to be an MMA fan. There are sooo many good events coming up.
-
God I wish Tito Ortiz would just go away. I hope the deaf guy takes a dump on his face in the middle of the octagon.
Velasquez- Lesnar is the only fight that I find interesting on the card at all--- And I will probably order the PPV just to see it.
Cote- Lawlor is mildly interesting
Schaub- Gonzaga is also mildly interesting
If Diego Sanchez actually shows up this time, the fight against Thiago should be good.
-
Diego will have his hands full with Thiago. I think he needs to stay at 155.
The Gonzaga/Shaub fight is a guranteed KO.
Shields/Kapman is an AWESOME fight. I know many people get bored with overly technical fights, but they're my favorite.
Any fight with Stout is potential fight of the night.
If Tito is truly healed, he will crush Hamill.
-
pretty good except for shields.....that guy is so boring...from his fights, to his personality....
bench

I'm sure the TitoHammil fight with be a shitty split decision. I can't stand either of those two fuckers.

-
Hammil should win this fight..
What an embarrassment to Tito if he loses.
-
That Hamill is retard strong and will throw Ortiz around at will.

Did you see the Hamil/Jones fight? A tall/lanky Jones threw Hamill around. Not that Tito is Jones, but just saying...
-
SHould be interesting. JUst remember that Tito has coached Hammill a lot in the passed. SHould know the keys to defeat him.

"Matt, I’m sorry. Business is business, though. It sucks, but this is business. *pause* [The] UFC made the decision, I was bummed, I love Matt. I think he’s an awesome athlete and he’s an awesome person. You won’t see any shit-talking from me about Matt Hamill because I think he’s an awesome guy, but it’ll make it even a better fight when it comes October 23 when I cave his face in. No bad feelings. No bad emotions. Just punishment."
-
Tito may take him, but Hamil is becoming a more technical fighter and IMO that is one of Tito's weaknesses.
Tito needs to show that he is evolving, but unfortunately I think his time has passed.
I think Hamil has a shot by decision.
-
Did Tito get a cervical fusion? If he did menatlly that is a tough one to overcome. Evem though he has clearance from the Doctor it still will be on the back of his mind the whole fight. I had one in 2000 and every time I do something "risky" , I always think about it. The boxing/punches won't bother the neck near as much as the grappling.
