If you've got any muscle or size on you at all neither of those brands would fit.  I used to wear K. Cole back in the day but as I got older and bigger his clothes never ever fit anymore.  I'm 6'5 though.  I wish Guess clothes fit me.  They've got a pretty cool style.  www.guess.com  For now the only upper scale clothing I can fit into is Banana Republic tall and XXL.  But their clothes are pretty conservative.  7 Diamonds is a good brand for bigger taller guys.  But all those European skinny fag brands like Armani, Hugo Boss, etc..........forgettabou tit!

If I had the money I'd go bespoke, I'd get myself to Saville Row.

Zegna is very nice, as are Kiton and Attolini, aaah one can dream...

Someone with taste. :) I have my trousers made to measure already, but it would be nice to get a complete suit made by the experts.

Saville Row has a great choice of fabrics but be ready to spend about 4 K€ or a suit. If you're working in corporate business it's getting tougher to get classic suits (two buttons or even worse one button suits). Armani's black label was still good a few years ago but now they're just aiming at the flashy russian clientele. True that if you're buitl those brands are tough, you have either to get them custom made or have your taylor do a lot of work. Zegna still does classic stuff. I'm amazed at how shitty male fashion has gone.

I'm having my shirts made to measure, can't find anything off the rack that will fit properly, I always had to have the shirts altered.
A trip to Saville Row is not an option the first half decade, have to find a proper new job first, which is a huge pain in the arse with the current jobmarket, even for MSc's...sigh.

Same thing for shirts. I get my suits fixed by a taylor and had a few made to measure when I could afford it. But with the baby, the new appartment, etc...those things will kill your shopping budget.

I know, some of the stuff only the models could wear on the Neiman Marcus site, they have dude wearing some crazy ish as well.
Now, my favorite stores  are Jos A Bank and Brooks Bro. I've had to keep myself out of those stores, because I will go straight for the ties, and try to buy them all.

As far as causal, Nautica, Ralph Lauren and Chaps, along with J.Crew...
But, on the real, I could be happy in Old Navy, cap and track pants.

Back in the early 80's there was a girl in Santa Monica (I think that is where she lived). She came to the gym and would have catalogs of clothing.  You could pick out what you wanted and she would take your measurements and custom make that exact piece so it fit you perfect.  You could take anything from suits to golf shirts to shorts.  I think it was $25 a shirt and $35 for pants.  Not sure but something like that.  I think she did a pretty good business. When I went to Hong Kong I had 3 suits made at Arshads (?) a custom tailor.  Man this guy was awesome.  Everything monogramed and made perfectly.  My photo I'm sure is still hanging in his place.  Of course I would have to go in for a refitting if I ordered now.  Other than that I was always just a t-shirt and OP shorts wearing guy.  When I dressed up it was Polo Shirts and Girbaud or Cavarichi or 501's

Oh god it is McAnusLicker again.  How in the hell do you post while giving a guy head.  Are you a gimmick of Goodrums.  Don't you have a gang of old ladies to go beat up.  Or at least post a video of someone else beating up someone and tell us all how that is how you do it or you trained under them.  Tell us some funny stories some more.  You are always good for a laugh.  Hurry up cause I am busy and can only hang around for awhile.  Tell us how you trained with the best and toughest.  Those are so funny.

You'd be surprised. I know of a guy who goes to place where rich people donate their clothes, and he picks up some nice stuff on the cheap, expensive ties that originally cost $70 and up, for $1.25, expensive brand name shirts for $1.25. Many of the clothes are from dead people. I can't go that route.

Besides, I got to get motivated, and there are tons of 160-165 pound buff dudes, just look at those playground vids of dudes doing muscle ups, dips, etc. Cut up, and muscular and about 165.

But, I hear you. Most what i wear after work, consists of running pants and t shirts and a pair of Nikes or Sambas and a Old Navy hat.

Bespoke, period. Custom suits made by the guys on Saville Row is the pinnacle. H. Huntsmon and Sons, Gieves And Hawkes. Italian? Attolini. I'd have them use the finest worsted wool.

Shirts -- Alumo cotton, done by turnbull and asser or Lewin, on Saville. Maybe Kiton if I went Italian.

Throw in some 10k John Lobb bespoke oxfords and your good to go.

As mentioned, it's not about the brand...it's about the fabric, construction, fit and the way it wears. The tailors mentioned above are the best of the best, and they use the most expensive fabric.

I know  people would look better than guys who wear $8,000 suits, and they shop at J Crew. There are a lot of wealthy guys with really nice clothing, who look like shit, because theit shit fits them incorrectly and they wear awful colors.

I actually feel once I reached a certain size of muscularity clothes seem to fit me better.  Once I deviate from this i.e. too lean or too big it disappears.  Nice broad muscular shoulders,,,,,,,decent size in the arms, flat stomach, big but subtlety in the chest area.  All that compliments many outfits for a guy.  Skinny guys look like shit in whatever they where and big meatheads look stupid as well in most clothes.

Although Kenneth Cole was never considered a luxury brand with the likes of Gucci and Armani the latter of the three have gone to shit as far as quality and uniqueness.  You can find Gucci and Armani at outlet stores now.

Used to be into expensive brands n shit, now I don't give a shit as long as they fit well, look cool, and the outfit looks good as a whole.. it can be dirt cheap or expensive.. fit and look is more important than price/brand.

x2 - the amount we spend on working out (time and gym memberships), food and supplements, you can make a cheap clothing look nicer than expensive clothing on someone who doesn't work out.

People with money, don't need to prove it to anyone by wearing expensive labels. I wear clothes that fit well, make me feel comfortable and look clean. I could care less who made them. Right now I am wearing plaid shorts and a polo from Old Navy.

The shorts are a bit loose, like I like them to be. Really fitted clothes on folks with some muscle look too obvious. Jeans are an issue. I used to wear Levis but they are no longer comfortable feeling to me, so I switched to Lucky Jeans. They can be dressed up or down as depending on the occasion. They are always comfortable on me.

I like organic fabrics best. Silk shirts are great for staying cool during hot weather. I prefer clothes that can be washed as opposed to being dry cleaned. I'll make an exception to this rule with dress slacks and suits. However, being retired, I find I rarely wear a suit anymore.

Work clothes (suits) i have are generally good quality and when it's for work i can seem to justify spending the dough.

Everyday clothes, whatever i want really. Some is expensive, some is cheap.

Never heard anything about half of the brands mentioned in this thread.

levis 501 , shorts , sneakers , t-shirts, slim fit shirts, polos .. just regular stuff but I don't have to wear a suit for work or anything.

Wouldn't change it even if I was a millionaire ..uhm I mean even though I am one.

I doubt that a lot of people on here will have trouble finding clothes that fit because they are to muscular - maybe it's time to loose some fat ? ;)

It's always a good time to lose some fat. And I should know... :)  But even then: buying something in my size off the rack is a disaster. The few stores that actually carry my size only have clothes cut for morbidly obese people. Anyone over 275 is automatically seen as being a fat tub of lard, with a huge gut, stick legs, no ass and no shoulder width. So trousers that would fit my waist fine can't be pulled up over my knees, a shirt or jacket that fits my shoulders is a dozen sizes too large on the gut. It sucks. So I just have trousers made to order. A good wool can take a lot of abuse and still look and feel great.

Ok if you're over 275 and not obese then it's probably going to be hard to find something that fits but with those stats you are an exception ;)

My waist is very small while my legs are pretty big which can make it harder for me to find some good fitting jeans but that's about my only problem.

Slim fit shirts are good.

I remember working at Armani many years back.
These tools would come in spending hundreds of dollars and many hours picking out clothes.
Meanwhile, they had pencil necks or lots to be desired physically.
I wanted to smack half of them and point them to a gym.

Some will do anything to avoid lifting weights for a better appearance.
Much like women getting their hair/nails done, being 40lbs over weight, and never hitting the gym....brilliant. :D

Ahhhh, but they could afford the clothes. Most who can afford the lux items, don't bother with lifting. Do you think Bernie Ecclestone cares about lifting weights, when he is being spanked by a 5'11 Dom that's hotter than the egg frying on the hood of his Maserati---which the Dom will force him to eat....

Old Navy?  How old are you man!  Their clothes are are made for high school teenagers.  At least step up to the GAP.  They are similar but cater to adults.  Old Navy clothes really suck!

you can smear shit on a brick of gold.. you can put a tuxedo on a piece of shit.. either way, still golden and still shitty. 'dressing up' on a daily basis is for tools and women.

You forgot that some of us might have jobs that require to dress up. it's also good to have a wardrobe in which at a moments notice, you can put a outfit together and not feel out of place at Ruth Chris.
When I went to college my mother stipulated that I must have a least one sportscoat or blazer and khakis, just in case for a school function, on campus interview or going to church service.

This could not be the any more untrue, and I expect your opinion is reflective of your age.

If you ever have aspirations to make something of yourself, and your on a job interview, and things are close between you and another candid, a employer is always going to give the edge a well put together individual.

Resumes are comparable, experience is close, but you walk in looking like you don't give a shit about your attire and your competitor is using clothing as an additional reflection of their persona; you lose, they win.

Clothing has been used as a tool to make an impact on people for centuries. Ever hear the saying: "you look like a millions bucks"?

I've got news for you; first impressions can do a lot for ones career, and since you have weird proportions due to your size, throwing on "whatever" likely makes you look like a neanderthol to 95% of the population.

As said, it's not about labels or cost, it's about wearing clothing that fits you well and maximizes your credibility.

I don't get the stigma that goes with dressing well.

If done right, a pair of nice jeans, a well fitted button down and a sport jacket, with some decent shoes can have you looking better than 90% of the population.

Back in the 30's - 50's a true man knew how to dress. You'd see working stiffs walking down the street in navy three peice suits and well tailored shirts.

You buy a pair of Kenneth Cole trousers for work. They cost you $50.00 bucks and are made of cheapo wool sourced from some shithole in china.

You by a high quality pair of custom trousers (that fit you correctly) that cost 4 times as much...but look better and last 5 times longer.

Not all expensive clothing is based on brand name, and often times the added expense comes from custom fitting, labor and high end fabric costs.

You don't have to spend a fortune to look good. Just be smart about what you buy and what it's made from.

It's funny, because I have several vintage sport coats made by very high end tailors that look great, and they are ten years old. Cheap shit would have shit the bed after a year of heavy wear.

It's what they are comfortable in, because they don't know any better. People think that, if standard off-the-rack shit doesn't fit them, then there's something wrong with their body! Hell no. Jeans can fit properly, if you are lucky enough to find a cut that matches your body. But why spend time, money and frustration on buying off the rack when, for not much more, you can have something made that fits perfectly, is made of better material, will last longer, will look better after some wear and tear, and will have you looking your best?

Brands (expensive ones too) have everyone brainwashed. The only truly comfortable clothing is that which is made specifically for you by a competent tailor.

Hell, I even have my sweat pants made to order. I don't accept second best.

No, I was speaking in general terms. Why people, big and small, spend a fortune on poorly-fitting big-name clothing, while they can get better quality garments tailored perfectly, is completely beyond me. You give an example yourself: you try on a pair of pants, you immediately notice they do not fit correctly -- yet you still pay full price for them! Why? If you can't afford it: I understand. Been there for years myself. But if you have the money (you don't even have to be a GB millionaire), I cannot comprehend settling for second best when a much better alternative is often just as affordable.

If I spend E100-150 on a pair of trousers, I want all my money to go into the production of said garment, i.e., fabric + tailor. Not 90% to a company's bottom line, and 10% to the sweatshop in Cambodia that does the work as cheaply and quickly as humanly possible -- and denying me properly fitting trousers while they're at it! The fact that my trousers miss a 2-cent label (apparently worth hundreds of $$$ ???) is something I've learned to live with. ::)

Insanity!

Mind you: I'm no mannequin. If something can be bought cheap and it fits, then great. Sitting here in the office wearing a bespoke pair of trousers and a €3,- t-shirt. The shirt happens to be comfortable, which is all that matters.

Exactly. Stylish AND masculine. Looking like he's deciding whether to frequent a sophisticated nightclub, or beat the shit out of some punks.

way off in my case. After 10 years in retail mangement, I don't pay full price for shit. I normally get my jeans at express or pac sun. Normally have a coupon as well. Most I will pay for jeans at either place is 40 bucks. One thing I DONT need is clothes. I don't buy the trendy patterns or anything for the most part. Keep it neutral colors

In all fairness, nobody - NOBODY- could look like Cary Grant. That'd be, like, expecting every woman to look like Audrey Hepburn.

You might very well not fit the description, but you'll have to admit that the example you yourself gave is applicable to virtually all other men and women.

And it's not really about price. I simply refuse to wear something that doesn't fit properly. I refuse wearing it if it cost a million dollars and has my name embroidered on it by Versace himself, I refuse wearing it if it was free.  I spend 8 hours per day wearing decent clothes. They better well be absolutely 100% comfortable and nice looking under all circumstances.

I am a huge fan of Zegna for work wear but I am very happy with Banana Republic for everyday wear because they tend to have a more athletic cut to a lot of their clothing.

In regards to looks, true.

A proper tailor and the correct fabric choices can have you styled just as well. It's not like he had access to clothing only he could buy. In the picture, he's wearing a american cut, grey three peice, worsted wool suit w a black trench.

There are plently of ugly dudes who had impeccable style:

dont like the color combinations or the fabric, because they are few years old.

As said, it's not about labels or cost, it's about wearing clothing that fits you well and maximizes your credibility.

your both right and i completely forgot about the life of people with professional jobs. in that case, yes dressing nice definitely makes sense. but in that case were talking about black suits and peacoats, not what pop culture and the jersey shore fashion wanna-be's think is "stylish". thats mainly what i was refering to. 18-29 y.o. dudes dressing up everyday like their going to be in a music video.

I agree with you, there are a lot of "fashions" out there that are terrible. And as I said, you could look like a smooth fucker in a properly proportioned button down, a tailored sport jacket from j crew and a pair of selvege jeans from Levis, with some decent shoes. Women will instantly find you more attractive, and it wont cost you a fortune or give of an air of metro...

it's not about the 'name' that should make you decide who's brand to wear, it's about how it fits.

bigger guys will have to either go bespoke on one end ($$$$), or suit separates on the other ($$). for what a good bespoke suit costs you from saville row, you can fly to bangkok, find a good tailor and have 4 suits made for the same price including your airfare. i did this the last time i was there.

for those who don't have the bank roll to buy bespoke- recently because of fluctuations in my weight and i have two weddings coming up i bought two calvin klein suit separates and had them tailored to fit and i can't believe how good the cut is on me for an off the rack suit. highly recommend them for guys who don't have the bank roll for higher end stuff.

and, yeah some guys take shit too far and start being metro- but there is a huge difference between wanting to dress well, and being a little too into it.

surprised nobody has mentioned shoes- get good shoes if your thinking about upgrading your wardrobe. and im not talking whats hot at ALDO. a good pair of classic shoes that wont go out of style will cost you a bit more, but you'll have them for life and never replace them. the one thing you should never skimp on is your shoes. something like a pair of allen edmonds 5th avenues. a good pair of shoes should be one of the first things you buy.

all that being said- 6 out of 7 days of the week in the summer when im not at work i rock Jordan shorts and shoes, and whatever college team t shirt i grab off the shelf. thats how i always dress and always will- in the winter i have 3 pairs of jeans that are 10 years old i'll never throw out that i wear and i wear fucking flannel and a haynes tshirt cause thats what im most comfortable wearing. it isnt about dressing a certain way to impress anyone- its about being comfortable in what you are wearing, but being able to look also look good when you need to.

Used to be into expensive brands n shit, now I don't give a shit as long as they fit well, look cool, and the outfit looks good as a whole.. it can be dirt cheap or expensive.. fit and look is more important than price/brand.

Fit is definitely the most important factor.

Anyone with more than an 8 inch drop should wear mtm suits or go bespoke, period.

There is no set rule of who should wear what (aside from a few staples). You wear what fits you well. Quality is king, labels mean nothing (aside for about a dozen staples). Half the labels you dudes buy are made by manufactureres who sell their shit in sears, as well. You get what you pay for. If you pay full retail off the rack, you are a sucker. Bespoke and mtm are worth every cent.

Massive bodybuilders will never look good in a suit, as there comes a certain point when your propotions are just fucked up, period. A 50 inch chest and a 34 inch waist is not normal. It's never going to look right no matter what you wear.

most people wear shit that they see others wear, or shit they see in magazines or tv.....nobody has their own style anymore...this thread proves that...

bench

Agreed. Most of us suckers also imagine we look just as good as the models in these magazines do if we where the same clothes.

Being retired, I have little use for suits. I mostly dress casual. While I don't care about labels, I am a "clothes horse" in that I have a lot of clothes. Last year I rediscovered Structure cotton tee shirts that have a small amount of latex. I buy them to fit, XL. Every time I go to Sears, which carries this brand, I buy more of them. I must have every color they've ever come in in both long sleeve and short. They don't cost much, which is always nice.

The skinny fit Structure jeans feel good on. I bought a couple of pairs in different sizes. The 34" jeans feel a little tight when I first put them on, but they stretch out in about an hour and then feel great. If I don't wear a belt with them, they do tend to slip down some. while I don't like my pants hiked up, I am not into showing my ass crack to folks.

I used to like shrink to fit 501's and cowboy cut Wranglers. These seem too tight and too high waisted to me now. For a baggier fit, I wear Lucky Brand jeans....they make me feel so lucky! Ha, ha. While I go for comfort, I don't like looking sloppy. So, I never wear sweats, etc. I prefer sandals to sneakers both summer and winter.

When I have to dress up, I throw on a blazer or sport coat, sometimes over a dress shirt and sometimes just over a tee shirt. Oh the joys of being retired and old....no one cares what you wear. Ha, ha.

They are wrong...double breasted jackets  if fitted properly make guys with a big chest look great.
