Title: Bob Chick some questions on BSN?
Post by: MuscleMcMannus on August 03, 2010, 11:46:44 AM

How much does BSN spend on R&D per year?
Does that black fella in the video have a PhD in Biochemistry?
In the video what stage of the research process are we watching?
Is it safe to assume that the R&D going on at BSN rivals that of a company like Pfizer and GlaxoSmithKline?
Where are the major R&D facilities located?

Bob can you elaborate just how much they spend on R and D?  As a spokesperson do you not know the exact number?  Is it a well guarded secret?  Do they use Chinese raw materials in their products?

Bob can you honestly not think of a better way to make a living than being a professional bodybuilder?

Really dont know the exact number, ask me after Jan...

I devoted my life to becoming a pro BB....so It's pretty much what I always wanted to do...as for "literally"...yeah, winning the lottery or some such thing would have its perks as well...but I'd still be involved in the Pro BB world even if I was loaded

Bob,

How would a regular fella like myself get involved in the industry outside of competing?  I know it's a vague question, I'm assuming it's a who know thing.
Whether it be working for the IFBB, NPC a supplement company or magazine.  I'd be stoked if I could make a living in a sport that I loved outside of playing.

I would say 99% of people in the industry that dont have a background of competing, are either photographers, writers, supp company reps ( marketing, etc) not to say there arent the exceptions of those that do...depends on your expertise

There was no firing, and there was no quiting...it was mutually agreed to move on, as they even assisted in seeking other opportunities...business is business

Bob, question that has nothing to do with this thread.

Do you still enjoy watching shows even after all those years and are you still impressed with the competitors (amateur and pros)

and do you train some competitors ?

If Im at a show, I'm usually working in some capacity...so I really never get a chance to actually watch one....as for competitors, Ive been impressed as equally as Ive been amused...

No, I dont have the time to train people...I offer my help more in the business sense and occasionally in the posing/ presentation dept...

Bob you mentioned before that you dont squat or do deadlifts. You have also listed your diet here before and it is pretty sparce.

So how do you hold such quality mass at the ripe age of 43?

I was lucky enough to have Bob chick sit beside me during some of the prejudging at the 2004 GNC pro contest. He gave and insightful and entertaining play by play of the various pros on stage as they compared. The man really does know the sport and has a real passion for it.

Bob is a good guy....we all know this.

But I think he is proof that Supplement Companies don't only go after the Current competitive guys but overall "Ambassador's" to the sport.

Did you approach BSN, vice-versa or what exactly? Perhaps this is info you can share with the Troy Alves and Melvin Anthony's of the world.

Is it safe to assume that the R&D going on at BSN rivals that of a company like Pfizer and GlaxoSmithKline?

Glaxo spend over $7billion a year and employ 16,000 people in R&D. No supplement company in the world generates the revenue that would allow that kind of spending.
BSN do have their own R&D department as seen in the video - its not stock footage - whereas lot of companies "R&D" is nothing more than supplying a list of ingredients to a contract manufacturer.

Bob really is a cool guy. Next time you are at a major contest expo , head over to the BSN booth and talk with ol' Bob. He is open and candid about most stuff related to bodybuilding.

Bob, wouldn't you consider co-owning or owning a Gym in the future giving your expertise in the BB business?

I am sure Bob might agree that a company is in business to make money.
If  my 80 yr old MOM 's endorsement/pics would  sell pro powder,( better then Mr O) they would pay HER to promote it!

Yeah, but right NOW, you have a much better situation than having to deal with the day to day "slog " of owning a gym.
I don't think people realize that you really ENJOY being around bodybuilding , contests , expos, etc   TRUE?
