Title: What do you consider to be "big"?
Post by: dc8pack on August 03, 2010, 07:27:11 PM
You know, I'm sick and fucking tired of how certain people generalize what "big" is. My point, I'm 5'7 (yeah, I know.....laugh it up.....I'm short and it just is what it is) but I am around 205 and at about 8% bf. Here is what pisses me off though. This toolbox ass clown at my gym was recently saying how he has a friend who is as "big as me" (and blah, blah blah.). Well, I meet this friend of his the other day and he is probably 5'10 (much taller than me) and can't weigh more than 190 or so. I'll say, he was in great shape and did train hard, but huge he was not. What constitutes being "big" to you? Is it height, size or a combination of both? To me it's the amount of mass you carry comparitive to your height.

To a regular person's eye, I'd consider 200lbs(at a legit 10%) at say 5' 10" to be very big. Among weightlifters say #220 at that same bf% and height. Add 10 pounds for every inch over 5' 10".

My sister in law just married this guy and had the family meet him.  So we all had some dinner and hes like" jezzuz h ur a big dude!!"  He asks what my arms measure and i tell him.   All of a sudden he says he has a 20yr old kid whos on his first cycle has 20" arms cold. Hes been liftin less than a year. ::)    But the kicker is hes going to be down soon for a visit. (thyre from out of state)  Im sure hes going to look like a bag of puss. :-X

You just have to shake that kind of crap off and do it to better yourself and shape yourself how you want to be.   People opinions should never matter more than your own......otherwise youll have a hard life.

Neither one of you "guys" are big. But to clarify his 5'10" @ 190 is better than 5'7" anything.

Always some blob who is bigger then you. I'm 5'7.5 210 lbs and i see fat fucks crushing me in size everyday. It's sad that some fatso can outsize me. Though obviously they look like shit in a tank top, in a shirt they'll take up more volume

dc8pack you are definitely a big dude just short.  Short guys just have an aspect of diminishing returns.  Once they get past a certain point it doesn't matter how big they get.they just don't look big.  I'm 6'5 so it's hard for me to call any dude under 5'10 or so "big".  A big guy is both taller than average and bigger than average.  But don't worry chaos is the king of cankles not size.

that's definitely a valid point. I'm sure it's hard to look at someone who is 5'7 and label them as big when you're 6'5.  That would be like me trying to label a guy that is 4'9 and 130lbs as big. Now I'm just bitter about being short.....thanks :)

Well trust me height isn't all its cracked up to be, especially when trying to pack on muscle.

5'7" 155
5'9" 165
5'11" 175

This is the ideal weight for those heights at a normal bodyfat, for average people.

Being the same weight at 5% bodyfat would be very fit/muscular
Being 10lbs heavier or more at 5% bodyfat is where big starts
Being 30lbs heavier or more at 5% bodyfat is where huge(juiced) starts

The bodyfat being key here...it's easy to be "big" if you are +20% BF

We had a guy in our gym years ago, that had 19 inch arms. Now that doesn't sound all that crazy, but to see the man in the flesh, would just put you over the edge. He had the most impressive pipes in our gym. There were guys in our gym with 20 inch plus arms.....but not with the impressiveness of the man with 19 inch arms.

I think big is a misleading term......case in point.....how many bouncers are considered big? All of them, right? They are all 5'10-6'0 and at least 220-230. Some are even bigger.....6'4 300 plus pounds......but you take a world class bodybuilder like Flex or Shawn and you put them up against the bouncer......Flex and Shawn win every time..... Shape can give the illusion of mind boggeling size......just my 2 cents.

everybody thinks they re big until they meet someone bigger than them.
then all their little world is shattered into pieces and they will never be the same again. This is why people should fulfil themselves thru their intelectual  and working skills instead of their physique. This way you ll always be satisfied.

BOOLFUCKINGSHIT!  If you are 5'7" yet 205 with only 8% fat then you can compete in the Mr. Olympia under 202.  What a fucking liar

You just need to be tall and fat
pure non trained barrel body
Wide hips wide ribcage
creates much more room for water and fat storage that gives an extra 40lbs edge.

Not short and fat or tall and ripped.
Even a ripped Ronnie gets dwarfed by a tall fat girl.

Height, water and fat is the formula.

when this pic was taken my arm was probably around 19" .  if Vince stood on stage that day his arms would look 21" because of the size of his joints, bone etc. in a t-shirt i look bigger than him, but if i was beside him onstage that day he would dwarf me and look 30 pounds heavier.

no actually.  my arms were physically larger than Vince' arms.  but they would look smaller on stage due to the small joints and insertions on Vince.  now in this pic with Dorian i was closer to the camera.
