I remember when I was a kid (not that long ago) when you got in trouble you weren't allowed to go outside and play. Now going outside is almost a punishment for kids

Just think of every non-software fortune 500 and they are people that worked their asses off to start. Now you have dicks who graduate from harvard in sociology and want to start at a $150k salary because they simply went to a good school that mommy and daddy got them into.

Obama dwarfs you.

I wish I lived life back then, life looked so much more less complicated. No cell phones, computers, facebook nonsense, etc...
Oh and I wish I made my current salary and lived back then too...

People of today are generally worthless.
Another GREAT depression and world war might straighten my pathetic generation out.

LOL......wow they look like clowns in a circus.
On a more serious note what awesome photos. Man life was so different back then. Peopel were so much more robust, tougher, and just lived a rough life back then. Kids back then don't even compare to kids nowadays. Going outside? Hell most kids can't even function without their video games and Happy Meals. It's sad really. That generation basically built our country and made it what it is/was today. We have been living off of the fumes of past generations. I'd say the 50's were the peak of the USA. Everything since then has been a descent into utter shit. Our country is so fucked up. People say oh.....shit has always been fucked up........well not like it is now. Look at how in debt most Americans are let alone our government. Man society has changed so much in 50 years. I can't imagine what it will look like in another 50.

what a bleak and joyless existence
thank God there was a war going on otherwise there wouldn't have been any escape
-
Great pictures... Couldn't help but notice not a lot of obesity back then..
-
Cool pics. Shows that the old times are not that far away - reminds me of the colour movie featuring nazi germany... frightening "being there" atmosphere.

good point. especially for the women of the time.. the war gave a lot of women freedom they never had before and an escape from domestic hell. not a total escape mind, they still had to have dinner on for when the man got home :)

I wouldn't say existence back then was bleak and joyless. The pictures you saw were obviously of poorer people and farmers. There was a burgeoning middle class in the 1940's ramping up in the 50's and 60's. If you saw pictures of the 20's you might say the same thing as well. But they didn't call it the Roaring 20's for nothing. If I showed you pictures of blue collar middle class neighborhoods or rural areas of MO you might say the same thing 50 years from now. Those pictures although neat were hardly representative of the majority of Americans. NYC in the 40's was booming and bustling. The suburbs were just getting started etc.

what is amazing is the technology to make 1 person a millionaire existed
now we have lots more poor
interesting eh

I just saw an ad from the late 50's. It was a real estate ad for Palos Verdes, Ca. PV is one of the most expensive areas in Los Angeles. Ocean front (well on hills). Probably the lowest priced home is $1 million. I remember in 1976 when I was a senior Bruce Springsteen was renting a house right up the street from PV High for $25,000 a month. This was in 1976. Well, anyway, this ad was selling 1 acre lots in PV for $180 an acre. They had 3000 acres they were selling. A private owner needed money to pay taxes so he put up some of his property to make some quick cash. Unreal.
By the way I love old stuff like these photos
