Why did/do so many American Christians support the war of aggression that our government waged on the innocent people of Iraq?
Doesn't that conflict with Christianity?
???

Religious teachings get perverted to suit the purpose of the day. Nothing new there.
I'm not religious but have no problem with people who are. I wish the converse were also universally true but it's human nature to be tribal and vilify those who are different. Again, nothing new. There are plenty of good folk of all faiths tho Eyeball, and a few loud SOBs who make headlines.
But I've never heard a US justification for war on religious grounds. They always spin some other bullshit for us.

War and religion have been tightly linked throughout most of human history.

Don't misunderstand me, I believe we never should've gone into Iraq in the first place or it least not in the manner we've done. That said, we're not at war with the people of Iraq, no war has been waged against them.

Exactly, it isoften used as a rational for whatever you want to do to others .
I am not a chirstian and think the Jesus divinity story is a myth or urban legend. I belive in GOD as creator but do NOT follow any 1 faith or doctrine.

More like violence in the name of religion but not actual warfare. The only overt appeal to Christian War I can recall is the crusades and I can't think of any purely religiously motivated wars in the BC era.

And spoiled, bored, drum-banging potentates who never have to enter the thick of the fray.
