From another article:
TP: Well, I trained for about two years like that – just sort of making my leg day an easy day. I think I did some abs that same day and some other things. It was a day I would go into the gym more or less to recuperate and to talk to some of my friends. Never really applying the energy necessary to legs that I did to other bodyparts. In fact, I was known in high school as having, you know, twig legs and a huge upper body.

Haha........"there is a certain risk involved in crossing the street.........". Epic intellectual wisdom right there. ::)

He looks younger than today's 25 year old bodybuilders.

Dude was fucking INTENSE in his training.
Genetics AAS and huge amounts of SPEED

I wonder.
did this guy really mega-dose? would be interesting to know from someone in the know, in the ealy/mid eighties the guys really came up by leaps and bounds, size and conditioning wise Platz, Haney, Gaspari, Bannout transformed his physique, etc. Maybe gh use started then?
he really looked like a very intense (ala Gaspari) trainer, although wouldnt be surprised if he did speed, or something, real maniac in the gym, lol.
either way, he was very professional, carried himself well, good rep for bbing, pity he didnt achieve his goals, and even though a fan favorite, and did loads of guest spots and appearances, was left with nothing from bbing when all done.

the speed thing was with Mike, and we all know this. Yes Mentzer, my one friend called him speedy Mike. He had no relation to bodybuilding. My man was trying to break into sho-biz. But they all train at Golds venice. With Bolo Yueng, Steven Baldwin, and many others. The man with the most respect from me was Dan Inosanto.

the worst part of LA is the speed. Not everyone does it, but there's alot that do. The stupid peanut butter was all the rage in the nineties.

Tom's chipmunk cheeks were beyond weird. Must have chewed a lot of gum when he was on.
He definitely beat Franco in 1981. He probably would've won Mr O in 1982 and 83 if he didn't tear his biceps.
-
TOM WAS ONE OF THE GREATEST BODYBUILDER IN 80s, BUT HE WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH HIS UPPER BODY, BECAUSE HIS LOWER BODY (THIGH, CALF ) WAS THE BIGGEST AMONG ALL BODYBUILDER ON THAT TIME AND EVEN NOW. I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH HUGE LOWER BODY IN THE HISTORY OF BODYBUILDING. THIS MY OPENION. WITH RESPECT TO ALL.
-
Tom was one of the greats for sure.
As for the way he looks now - well, you wouldn't buy a used car off him would you ?

platz's best interview was when he was put in charge of the wwe's bodybuilding division the wbf. vkm and tom were doing an interview and tom was asked if the bodybuilders were going to wrestle in the ring, tom laughed off the notion more or less dismissing vkm's cashcow. the look on vincent kennedy mcmahon face priceless.
