Has anyone got custom made orthotics?
Ive heard they help a lot with walking and feeling more comfortable, they also help in a LEG WORKOUT and how you feel your quads and Palumbo reccommended them, i think it makes sense,
Im going to give them a try and go to a podiatrist.

Hmm. They're not really for comfort, they're to correct/alleviate some kind of foot/movement imbalance. Like the plantar fasciitis like I had. You want comfort? Get some of those Mickey Mouse shoes the retirees wear that have those two big velcro straps across the top.

Haha.
Doc, the bottoms of my feet (heel & ball, not inbetween) get wicked sore first thing in the morning (or after sitting for awhile and then standing up) if I do long days at work. From what I've read online it could be fascism. ;)
How did you get diagnosed and how would you rate the orthotics for sorting you out?

Do they actually "mimic" weightlifting shoes? (http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:O0PxiBICiGVRrM:http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/4382/dowinweightliftingshoes.jpg&t=1)

Gotta watch that fascism. It sneaks up on you when you least expect it.
Well, I had this gad-awful pain just in front of the bottom part of my heel. Was like someone had put hooks in the bottom of my feet. Like Saw, or Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Had to tape the shit out of feet just to play ball. Did some on-line self diagnosis and narrowed it down to plantar fasciitis. Looked in the phone book. Asked a few questions of each place. Chose my orthotics place. Diagnosis confirmed. Orthotics made in a few days. Just under 3 weeks later, I was pretty much pain free. Now 2 years free.

Nice to hear it made such a quick difference. I'll look into it if I get another bad patch. Atm it's just 50 or so old man steps first thing in the am. Nothing like what you describe. About 18 months ago tho it was with me all day and mornings were real bad news. Dogs a-barkin.
Also looking into getting an asian massage girl.

Lol, he didn't get it.

My w/o partner, husband and I all had this. My massage therapist at the time told me to go get Birkenstock inserts at this old people's store. The inserts have diff. arch and width measurements but the people at those type of stores can help you to figure out which ones you need.
Each of us bought these and used them for awhile (I used them in my athletic shoes as well as a diff pair for enclosed heels) and we all were "cured."
Only $50 for those (at least a couple years ago)...maybe try those before spending a lot on custom mades.

I'm not getting anything these days.

Oh brother. You'll catch on.

Squelching individual liberty is hard work. No wonder they're so sore!

Sounds like some of you sold your sole to the Devil.

It was a joke. You're right though, someone needs to lighten up.

If the shoe fits... ;D

I still wear mine on occasion. I had the problem about 6yrs ago and after a few weeks of wearing them, haven't had it re-occur since. I really do recommend them for the problem, all bs aside.

Sweet. I'll make some calls next week and see what's what. No sense in waiting, really.
Oops, just saw your post, Stella. I'll look into that too since the cost of customs in Aus is sure to be insulting.

their a life saver for people who over-pronate their feet and thus have a decreased arch because of it.
-
I had them custom made twice. They take a plaster mold of your foot and send it off to wherever and a week or so later you get custom made orthotics. The doctor molds it to your feet. They are about $400 a pair. I lost them both. My dog tore about the first paid and second pair got lost somewhere. They take a little time to get used to.

Well those are custom made and fit perfectly to your foot and customized to fix whatever problems you have. you can by similar ones for like $40 or so. I just wanted that added support

are there any "premade" ones which have your heels raised? I would be good to wear them inside your shoes on leg day and do squats instead of putting small plates under your feet.
-
I've been wearing them for years. Before getting them my knees killed me. They are much better now. I would definitely recommend them. Just make sure you break them in as recommended. Trust me, I wore mine for most of the day the first day and could barely get out of the bed the next day.
