Report: Feds lawsuit against SB 1070 protects human rights

PHOENIX - The lawsuit from the federal government challenging Arizona's immigration enforcement law could be getting worldwide attention.
A report to the United Nations suggests the government's actions against our state and SB 1070 prove they are protecting human rights.
But the inclusion of SB 1070 in the report isn't sitting well with state lawmakers.
"It's outrageous. You think about it, simply outrageous," said State Senator Russell Pearce.
Pearce, sponsor of SB 1070, criticizes the mention of the law in a U.S. State Department's human rights report to the United Nations.
"Now we're going to go to those countries and have them judge our law, when most of them have human rights, real human rights violations," said Pearce.
The report lists the federal lawsuit as one of the actions taken by the U.S. government to protect human rights.
"What's going on? Enough is enough," said Pearce.
Governor Jan Brewer agreed.
In a letter sent to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Brewer states, "It is downright offensive that the U.S. State Department included the State of Arizona and SB 1070 in a report to the United Nations Council on Human Rights." Adding, "The State of Arizona will fight any attempt by the Department of State and the United Nations to interfere with the duly enacted laws of the State of Arizona."
"It was the right thing to do and I would go farther than the Governor did. I think she's right and I appreciate her response and I think it's appropriate," said Pearce.
Brewer is calling for the removal of the section of the report which mentions Arizona and SB 1070.
