has anyone on here ever torn a bicep?
thursday night my left arm was hyperextended away from me very fast in a boxing match...and my left bicep moved up a bit on my arm so there is a gap between it and my elbow joint...when it happerned and the day after it was very tight and painful i have nasty bruising on the right side of my left forearm and on the right side of my elbow...the bicep still looks the same...it feels a bit softer...i can still flex it and flex my forearm w/ no pain...there is only a tiny bit of tightness and pain...and swelling has gone down on my bicep tendon area

he doesnt represent athletes...he represents bodybuilders....the word "athlete" in his title is just a typo...

I tore mine a couple years ago. Put your arm at a 90 degree angle. Move your hand in a left to right circular motion(like you are supinating at the top of a concentration curl). Now watch your bicep, if it moves when you twist your hand, it more than likely is not torn. If it does not move at all, you tore it. If the bicep has already moved up the arm a bit, its a good chance you tore it.

Make sure it's a torn bicep and not bicep tendon. We discussed this.

the bicep moves normal when i do that...w/ no pain...the only thing that has changed on my arm is that theres that gap where the tendon connects to my elbow...i can feel the tendon...it feels hard...

Maybe its a good time to help Gene out with some BSN supplement information for recovery on this type of injury.

Saw a pretty big latino fellow tear his bicep doing curls with only 65 pounds. Must of been slights torn before that because it was warmup weight for him. They muscle snapped and there was a ball at the top of his arm. He was in excrutiating pain and had to have an ambulance called. They can reattach it but the bicep will never be or look the same.

Dude was going into shock. People of color don't handle pain as well. Working at a hospital latinos are the ones who express their pain and discomfort the most.

The dream isn't over, just tear the right one and it will just look like you have shorts biceps. Symmetry. It's what it's all about.

I had a complete bicep rupture. That's when the bicep rips off the bone completely tearing off the bicep. It happened to me on the distal (lower) part of the bicep. See an orthopedic surgeon that specializes in that area. Don't see an othopedic surgeon that says he does everything from knees, ankles, shoulders and elbows. Jack of all trades isn't who you want to cut you. Big orthopedic practices will have docs that specialize in every area. He will give you an MRI to help him diagnose. My bicep rolled up my arm. He didn't need a MRI to know what happened but he got one anyway.
From what I understand you can actually tear the muscle. I'm not a doc but from what I understand it's worse to detach it from the anchor points. Muscles attach to to bones on each end. You could also have a partial tendon tear instead of a complete rupture. This is an easier repair.
The doctor said it's best to get it repaired quickly before the tissue has a chance to scar. I guess for the tissue that attaches to atrophy and die.
The repair was made for me by screwing two metal anchors into the bone and sewing the tendon to it. In six weeks the tendon will grow and reattach into the bone again. Recovery was very slow for me and it took a lot of work. Five weeks I couldn't curl a 5lbs pound dumbbell without a lot of pain. The good news is that the surgery was a complete success in the end.
I know the bicep isn't a prime mover in benching but it stablizes the tricep. It also is attached from your shoulder to your forearm. You would be surprised how weak you can get from removing one little muscle group like a biceps. I started benching 45lbs when the cast came off and I could do some movement. My arm wouldn't extend completely for a long time.
I hope this helps.
