Post by: disturbia on September 10, 2010, 07:18:16 PM
Lets say  I am taking in 2300 calories a day

then lets say I do cardio and the machine says I burned 500 calories

does that allow me to take in 2800 calories a day then?

I have no fuking clue about this stuff

Take your weight, multiply it by 6.3, Take your height, multiply it by 12.9, Take your age, multiply it by 6.8...then add it all together.  This will give you your BMR

Then take that BMR and multiply it depending on your activity.

Lazy Fuck = 20%
Semi Active = 30%
Super Active (Animal) = 60%

That will give you the amount of calories you can take in and maintain your body weight.  From there you'll can adjust the caloric intake each day depending on what you do.  If you reduce that amount by 500 calories a day, you'll lose about 1 pound a week

Im going to completely assume you are kidding about this

1625 + 928.8 + 299.2 x 30% = like 850 or so  minus 500 = 350

Im not even gonna comment on this--its too embarrassing for you

weight 258
height 72 inches
age 44

this easyy just do this;

1 find your basel metobolic rate (google a calculator), this is the amount of energy (with no activity) your body needs to maintain its exact same weight

2 eat way more than this (google hor much) to gain weight

3 eat less or the same as your basel metobolic rate to lose weight

i lost 30 pounds doingthis and not i look like the guy from the old spice commercial

dont worry about how many calories the machine tells you that you have burned. your diet in a calorie deficit should provide the fat loss. cardio's value is not just in x calories burned in a session, but in that it elevates your metabolism as well.

Anytime I'm trying to drop a few pounds I keep it simple.
Cut way down on starchy carbs. Maybe 1-2 servings every third day. I compensate by eating a lot more leafy greens, various veggies and fruits.

Up my cardio and increase meal frequency. (Walking on the treadmill or even elliptical is not cardio)
Cardio is anything that makes you sweat through your shirt and makes you out of breath.
Who the fucck likes to walk on the treadmill for an hour a day? Seriously, I'd rather kill myself. Elliptical is bullshit too...how many fricking fat chicks do you see at the gym that look like they can do the elliptical for hours but still look obese?

It's not rocket science...but then again I've never been sub 10% bf so what do I know. (I'm a permabulker)

LOL.

That's because you're suppose to take that number that you multiplied by 30% and add it to the BMR to get your caloric intake per day....  ::)

1625+928.8+299.2 = 2853 (BMR)
2853 X 30% = 855.9 (Number of calories burned from activity)

2853+ 855.9 = 3708.9 (your caloric intake)

Its called the Harris-Benedict Principle and its what many trainers including myself use for clients.  its a lot better than just....winging it....... ::)

According to your calculations, I am supposed to take in over 3,000 calories per day to stay at my current weight of 210lbs. I barely eat 2000 calories daily and I do cardio 5-6x per week at high intensity. If I ate an extra 1000 calories I would blow up like a balloon. I think your formula is bullshit.

There's no way I could even answer your inquiry unless I knew exactly what you looked like and what you normally eat.  I worked with one person who thought they were getting in 2,000 when in fact he was actually getting close to 4,000 calories a day.  It was mainly due to him reading the calories on the packages and not taking into account how many servings are in each package.

The formula is only a starting point for people to adjust their caloric intake as no two people are alike.

Yes, but the 500 loss has to be beyond what you average in expenditure. Remember that you would of burned some calories anyway just sitting on your ass if you didn't exercise during this time, and you have to resume what you normally do (no extra sleeping or rest to compensate the exercise) during the remainder of the day.

You guys are clueless. Vince advises his clients to follow these principles--- Shit loading for 29 weeks up until a show: this will promote fullness and vascularity, the kind of veins and cuts Jay Cutler can only dream of.

Then, for 20 weeks follow this breakdown: 97% fat, 1 percent carbs, 2 percent sodium. So, as an example for a smple meal a bodybuilder looking to cut up for a show should eat the following diet:

1) 70 grams of BBQ pork ribs
            - 1 glass of plain water with a twist of lemon
               - 5 heaping tablespoons of salt

Meal 2) half an ounce of candied yams (King Cullen brand)

Meal 3) Repeat meal 1

This routine should be followed religiously, 3 meals a day,  with no cheat days and no extra water for 20 weeks .

With 9 weeks left, here is what your diet should cosist of-- breakfast: 6 heaping tablespoons of baking soda, half a grapefruit unpeeled, 1 small box of apple jax cereal.

Meal 2: An entire box of frosted flakes with a gallon of whole fat milk, 1 tuna steak.

Meal 3: one pound of almonds rinsed in Olive oil ingested rectally twice a day.

Following this diet, you are guaranteed to make the top 10 in this years Mr. Olympia.

I got a little fat along the way, but it's pretty much what got me leaner.  I didn't make any major lifestyle changes to lose the fat, just walked more and ate cleaner.
