Bad move for BJ IMO...
-
Agreed.
BJ should not fight at WW again.
I will probably order this fight though.
-
why not ?
I can't think of anyone off hand that I'd really want to see those two in there with so they may as well milk a 3rd fight..
can't believe how in the course of just two fights,Bj fallen from a monster in the division to where he is now.
still think we'll see Maynard/Penn early next year for the title but I don't see it being competitive...
I think Dana should set B.J up with something easier so he can sell that fight..
-
I think its a good fight-- Two hall of famers that are still competitive in their respective divisions throwing down is always entertaining, but BJ has everything to lose and nothing to gain by taking this fight. He is definetly closer to his prime than Hughes is. I would maybe have him fight Florian again and then have him fight Maynard assuming Edgar beats him, and then put him up against Jose Aldo. BJ has the ability to beat Hughes (especially now), but why even risk tarnishing his legacy?
-
BJ has little to gain from this fight and a lot to lose. I know it's personal one for him, since he wants to avenge that loss to Hughes, but Hughes is not the beast he was before getting neutered by GSP.
IMO, this is a HUGE step down for BJ. He is still one of the top 2-3 lightweights in the world.
Oh well...

I'd rather see BJ fight Gomi and Hughes fight Dennis Hallman again.

BJ already dominated Gomi, but that would be a good fight to start the climb back up the ladder.
As for Hughes, if he couldn't beat Hallman in his prime, imagine now. But, I wonder what kind of shape Hallman is in nowadays...
-
I would like to see a BJ/Hughes 3 but i would rather see BJ fight Gomi and others to try to climb back to a title opportunity. BJ/Hughes will always be marketable so no need to rush that one. I have never seen the Hughes/Hallman fights but would like to see Hughes avenge his losses to this guy or at least see why Hallman has Hughes number.

BJ v. Matt Serra would have been a good rematch also.

How so??? He embarrassed Hughes in the first fight and, and was embarrassing him again in the rematch until he fucked up his floating rib going for the triangle. Hughes is still light years behind Bj in the stand up department and isn't quick enough on his feet to be in and out and give Bj problems like Frankie. Bj just took this fight to stay busy, I really don't think it's a permanent move.

I do believe that BJ will easily win this, but it's an unnecessary risk. And, if he wins, it proves nothing.

It proves he wants to fight and stay busy, which is pretty much what he wants to do at this point. He told Dana he wanted to get back in there as soon as possible, and this fight was Dana's response.

And if Hughes wins?
-
And if Hughes wins?
either way this fight has no title implications,B.J.s not the same fighter @ 170 and the fact that Hughes has a win over Almeida really doesn't do much to disprove what we already know, and that's that the best at 170 has passed him by...
the fight will be much better but, I don't see this as much more than a Couture/Coleman type deal, where the outcome won't prove much.

BJ and Kimbo ;D
-
One fighter who is exiting his prime and one who is well past it.
I think i'll pass on this one fellas.
