Title: FBI employees arrested for steroid use

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100915/us_nm/us_steroids_fbi_1 (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100915/us_nm/us_steroids_fbi_1)

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Three FBI special agents and one FBI intelligence analyst were arrested on Wednesday on charges that they concealed their use of performance-enhancing drugs, including steroids and human growth hormones.

U.S. prosecutors charged the four individuals with lying on forms that are used to assess their fitness for duty by omitting that they had conditions requiring the drugs and that they had taken them.

FBI policy prohibits the use of anabolic steroids, and while they are not illegal, they are banned from many sports although many athletes and others have used them to build up muscle quickly to enhance their performance.

The use of performance-enhancing drugs has roiled the sports world where several top athletes have been accused of lying about taking steroids and human growth hormones, including former baseball pitching star Roger Clemens.

FBI Deputy Director Timothy Murphy said the investigation was continuing and the agency was cooperating.

"FBI employees must be held to the highest standards of ethical conduct," he said in a statement. "When this information came to our attention, a thorough investigation was initiated which led to today's charges."

Two of the FBI agents arrested are married, Matthew and Katia Litton, the latter who was once a professional bodybuilder and competed in the sport in 2002. The couple was accused of spending $17,000 on the drugs since 2006, according to court documents filed on Wednesday.

He works as a special agent in the FBI's Critical Incident Response Group while she is a special agent in the FBI's Washington Field Office.

The intelligence analyst arrested, Ali Sawan, works in the FBI's counterterrorism division and he made some 90 purchases of steroids and human growth hormones between November 2007 and January 2010, according to the affidavits filed in U.S. court.

The couple and Sawan received the diagnoses of pituitary dwarfism and panhypopituitarism and prescriptions from the same doctor, who was not identified in the affidavits. That doctor alone had diagnosed 302 patients with the same conditions, the documents said.

The doctor, who worked as a part-time emergency physician for a health center and also has a practice offering "hormone modulation therapy," had written more than 5,200 prescriptions for anabolic steroids between September 2005 and January 2010, according to the affidavits. No further details on the doctor were released.

The fourth individual arrested, James Barnett, was also a special agent in the FBI's Washington Field Office and received the steroids and human growth hormones from a gynecologist, who was not named.

Court documents said that Barnett spent more than $10,000 for lab work, pharmacy purchases and other fees performed by the doctor's practice between October 2008 and January 2010. He too was diagnosed with pituitary dwarfism and other disorders.

The four appeared in court earlier on Wednesday and were released pending trial without having to post bond. They were ordered to submit to drug testing, remain within 50 miles of their homes and were barred from possessing firearms.

If convicted, they each could face up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

All the raids on steroids are senseless, they should just make it legal for the average Joe, with a doctor's prescription.

Would help the economy, kill off a lot of crime and UG labs immediately.

Bullshit argument.

Not the point.

You logic is basically stating, "If they make something that is illegal not illegal, then there will be less crime".

Well no shit?

Fair enough Ron, but prohibition of anything doesn't work.  It didn't work for alcohol, it didn't work for prostitution, it currently doesn't work for steroids or marijuana and it doesn't work for hardcore drugs too.  Sometimes I wish it did, but it just doesn't work.

Well no shit?

That's kindergarten argumentation.

Some things make sense to turn legal, some don't.

Steroids don't cause any problem in the first place, and making them illegal creates criminality.

Homicide causes problems and has to stay illegal.

Sure making everything legal would kill all crime statistically, but in real life everything will stay the same.
But when you make steroids legal, REAL crime will drop down because UG labs and dealers become unnecessary up to a certain point (vet grade steroids etc).

All drugs should be de-criminalized. Performance enhancing drugs should be made legal with a perscription or decriminalized as well. While I think busting these FBI agents was bullshit, part of me says good- FUCK em. They work for the FBI, a criminal task force that sends hundreds of people to prison every year for anabolic steroids. I'm glad that the FBI is at least pretending to give the appearence that they police themselves as stringently as they police everyone else.

Eliot Spitzer locked up how many people for prostitution? I was glad when that smug little piece of shit got his also.

Which means there's even more money down the drain.

In either way, sending some otherwise perfectly fine FBI agents to jail or make them pay a fine will not make it better.

That's what i said, but this case spawns a lot of paper work in different departments, money and worktime, that would better be spend on other things.

Used for an example, for what? If they would have kept it internal, no one would ever give a shit about some juicing FBI-Agents.

I WANT my FBI agents to juice and take performance enhancing drugs, meaing they can do they job better. I bet these dudes don't look like Coleman, just juicing for a better body and recovery. Persecuting them is really stupid.

i think we agree nearly 100%, i just don't know if you have realized that.  ;D ;D

The only thing is "it's not that much work"... It is, it's a waste of resources (human, time, money) and in governmental organisations everything costs triple the amount of money compared to a normal company.
Waste of time for the DA, and sure everything has a reason, but the point is that this makes no sense. You create a problem that wasn't there before just to show the people how you solve it. Then, the agents run free and everyone is pissed off that thought of "justice" before.

Sort of typical in any governmental organisation over the world, somehow politicians everywhere do this and fail.

Don't try to argue with McAnus.

He is a male nurse that would kill an armed man with his bare hands. If the FBI hired him, they wouldn't need the other agents anymore. McAnus would solve all crimes on his first day at work and then go back to cleaning old men's assholes.

the problem there is the weapons, they need to be locked away in a locked trunk in a locked compartment that is very hard for someone to break into.  So when the times comes, the police do not rush to shoot someone or someone cannot rush for the gun either.  Police have kevlar vest's so they already are 1 up on the other guys and have a tool belt as well.

no on all counts...lets break this down...

most holsters are locking levels 3's used by police officer...they get shot because they are afraid to pull the trigger....not having a weapon imediatly available would cost a lot of lives...

kevlar vest?...they only stop small caliber pistol rounds...they dont stop rifles, arrows, knifes...anything thing sharp with a point can go through them...

batons dont work for shit...not all departments have tazers....and pepper spray isnt something you want to use...when you spray it it gets you too...then you get covered in it having to handcuff the person and get him/her to the car...

and its usually because they dont have a level 3 holster....not cause they are threatening someone...

I still say we have bobbies like Britian has, the police need to be part of the community and gossip and stuff with them be their friends and get to know what is going on.  Now they are outsiders like guys with guns that try and scare people.

I thought you said most officers have level 3 holsters, so the small percentage of officers that don't have level 3 holsters lead to the 83 percent being shot by a person who steals their weapon and shoots them?

and yeah...i do know every trick they can pull out of that belt....

There isn't an FBI agent on the planet that really needs to be on steroids. The fact that they are is retarded. They have full access to any and all law enforcement to do the grunt work. When you people hear about an FBI shoot out etc. Its only because of their ego's that they are even in a shoot out to begin with.

Glad the US Gov is spending tax payers $$ catching all the bad guys...right!?!? What a fuckin joke!!

Actually its a good thing to know that "the establishment" is actually making a point to police itself(on paper ;)) Whether we agree with the charge or not. Its good to see an untouchable/s get busted for the same thing that we can.

Something like this, if it is handled right, could actually end up being a good thing. It will largely depend on how the agents who were busted present themselves and the case they present.

Mark my words, within ten yrs the steroid law will look very different. I would actually say within five yrs but I'll say ten to be on the safe side.
