Title: O'Donnell: School shootings caused by lack of Bible studies
Post by: 240 is Back on September 16, 2010, 08:17:19 PM
Do you guys think we should require all American public schools to teach Bible studies?

The newest Republican nominee for US Senate has been called "nutty" by even Karl Rove – and yet another controversial statement from her past has appeared.

Tea Party favorite Christine O’Donnell, who routed longtime Rep. Mike Castle (R-DE) in the Delaware Republican primary Tuesday night, years ago claimed that school shootings are caused by a lack of Bible and prayer studies in class.

“We took the Bible and prayer out of public schools, and now we're having weekly shootings practically,” O’Donnell, then a Christian activist, said in August 1998 during an appearance on ABC’s “Politically Incorrect.”

She didn't cite any sources and defended her statement when host Bill Maher and other guests scoffed. She prefaced: “My point is there are consequences to our actions, and if we as a nation tolerate sin, generations to come will reap the effects.”

I grew up in catholic school until grade 11.  I think it really did teach me a lot of good things.  It taught me some things that mixed me up a bit - a lot of unnecessary guilt about things like masturbation.  Also some bible literalists were amusing to say the least.

But teaching morality - while I don't know if it is constitutional - does lead to people more likely to do the right thing.

Yeah, and I guess all those issues with desegregating schools down south was a result of too much Bible studies?  Let's face it, it ain't lack of Bible studies that creates school killers, many of these idiots can't cope with bullies, life, or lack of having a social standing, no Bible is going to teach a person about that...in fact, it just may create more minions of confusion...killing in the name of David...or "David had someone killed so that he could be with his wife, why can't I have Johnny killed o be with his girlfriend?"

David later came to his senses and realized that what he did was wrong.

Yes, I do believe that teaching Biblical principles in our schools would lessen incidents of violence, but so would responsible parenting--something that's often lacking in our country nowadays.
