Title: Why I hate bodybuilding
Post by: Lundgren on September 17, 2010, 07:27:21 AM
Okay guys this is probaly my first thread about bodybuilding in 3 years  but here goes. Am I the only tired and sick of their being no tall category. I mean my interest in this shit came from seeing the 6 5 and 6 2 louey and arnie. In the last 35 years people on average have gotten about 2 inches taller, and bodybuilders today aren't even above average. Of course tall guys and shorter don't have the same type of builds so there should be two categories. But you wonder why bodybuilding is dead when the two most famous bodybuilders were tall. Louie was chosen for the hulk because he was taller than Arnold. Arnold made a career of being the big tall man. While franco has to do cameos with three inch lifts and super low camera angles.

Bodybuilding along with horse jockeys, are the only time being short is considered an asset to being below average height.

I mean come on I know it hurts your ego's to believe this but people prefer height over bulk. If you don't  care about the sport having a future  fine by me. Thing is wreslting is well better known for having the better physiques which is just fucking said. Most people know who dwayne johnson, steve austin, king khali and nathan jones.

it matters because if you're taller you'll look always better than a 5' man

trained or not

I've grown up around bodybuilders and I reckon a lot of them have short man syndrome. They bulk up and prove the world wrong about them by stacking muscle. The taller guys dont have as big a chip on their shoulder and end up playing basketball or something else.

Tis just a theory.

Well I'm 6'3.75" for the record :P. But I'm not against short people bodybuilding. I think it should go both ways. Why can't a guy 5 2 ever win a title. Because he's always grouped in with people 6 inches taller than him. Franco had amazing physique, one of my fav's. However you can't expect him and Arnold to be a fair comparison.

Meh I'm not trying to be a mister shrink here I could care less. If people goto the gym because their short more power to them. I just don't think the sport should be doing a nose dive, because people won't realize the problem. Cutler came to the city a while ago. The only guys that seen him were mostly the schools sports teams, and they all said he's a short and stocky. Not wow man he's huge, there's something wrong here.

Bodybuilding is not taking a nose dive—at least not based on the issue of height.  Tall or short there will always be guys who are willing to juice up and show off their muscles to other men… and there will always be fans willing pay to watch them do it.  :-\

This bloated mess is the problem. He barely breaking 6 foot, and he's about 30 pound over massed. He's just a freak to make the shorter guys look respectable.

so when they put a 6 foot bodybuilder in front of you you still cry about it and say he is overmucled?
so which is it? you dont think bodybuilding is fair cause only short and stocky guys win, or that taller overly muscled guys win?
i think your just skinny, and have a problem with it.

oh and im 5'10

is that to short or too tall?

I've long advocated a total ban of all "men" under 6ft in the gym.  Or at least make them workout on the ladies/kids side....

Bruno approved.

I agree, in part with what you are saying. I am avg ht at 5'10", so I don't have a dog in this fight.
But many of the taller, good looking male bodybuilders would make the sport appeal to a wider group, especially more straight woman.
Mike O'Hearn never fails to get a smile from most woman I know. He is tall and handsome and that helps.
BUT, the sport is what it is and looking thicker has its' advanatges now. In basketball being short is a big disadvanatge, take your sport ?

Why does it matter how tall you are. I mean it's not like anyone on this forum is trying to be a ifbb pro. I'm just sick and tired of the sport leaving out a pretty important part of the ideal physique. Sure you'd loose thickness if you went tall, but it's not like there not thick enough already. If i woke up tomorrow with cutlers body I'd fucking kill myself.

So you don't think height should play a factor at all. If there was a tall and short  groups there'd be more to offer.

Oh, I agree with you on that 100%.
The old AAU had ht classes for that reason. Much better system than wt classes in my opinion.
