Who the fuck is Marc William Rainbow ???
The Auckland District Court today handed down a three-month jail term to former bodybuilder Mark William Rainbow for importing, possessing and supplying prescription and other medicines in breach of the medicines legislation.
At the same hearing, Mr Rainbow was sentenced to five years in prison for offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975. Police handled all aspects of this particular trial. He will be serving both sentences concurrently.
Mr Rainbow, 43, pleaded guilty last March to 38 breaches of the Medicines Act 1981, including possession of anabolic steroids and related medicines used for performance and image enhancement, and sale of unapproved medicines.
Mr Rainbow imported medicines from Thailand in May 2008 that had been concealed in bottles falsely labelled “Gay Lube Oil”. The contents were then transferred into bottles labelled with the name of Mr Rainbow’s trading company, SSIS Pharmaceuticals. The products he sold were not of a pharmaceutical standard and their lack of quality assurance posed a real risk to those using them.
Medsafe investigators, working with Customs and Police personnel, found that Mr Rainbow supplied these unapproved medicines to at least three people.
“Mr Rainbow put the public’s health at risk by supplying prescription medicines outside the regulatory system that is in place to assure the safety, efficacy and quality of medicines,” said Derek Fitzgerald, manager of Medsafe’s Compliance Management branch.
“He was supplying prescription medicines to consumers who had not received proper medical assessment and advice. There was no consideration as to the safety and suitability of these medicines for consumers, including the impact the medicines could have on consumers through side effects or interaction with other medications,” Mr Fitzgerald noted.
Potential adverse effects from the use of anabolic steroids include: stunted growth, if used by those under 21 years old, virilisation of women, worsening of heart failure, renal failure, and hypertension. When used in high doses, risks include liver tumours and liver toxicity, abnormal cholesterol levels, and psychiatric disturbances such as depression, aggression and hypomania.
Mr Fitzgerald said the outcome of this prosecution should serve as a warning that offences of this nature that pose a high risk to others will be dealt with to the full extent of the law.

Marcs a good guy , he wouldnt have to smuggle these "dangerous" drugs that turn you into an axe weilding maniac that has you rolling around in the gutter like a smack junkie if there was common sense involved in law ::)
But hey if you want a sex change , boob job or any other medical procedure to enhance your looks than no problem just talk to your local Dr or plastic surgeon ::)
MEDSAFE = NAZI SCUM

Hahahahahaha, he really tried to smuggle in the drugs as "Gay Lube Oil" aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhahahaha haha ;D ;D
This was his master plan to be sneaky and avoid getting the stuff searched or noticed baaaaaaaawwwww.
Has to be the biggest dumb ass smuggling scheme , EVER!

Yea he trained , lived and competed in OZ for a while..Him and his former wife Allison are primo diet prep advisors.
Tape you never heard of him I thought you were in Orstralia ?
-
Read some interviews with him, seemed like a cool guy. A shame.
-
Though had worked on previous occassions so yeah must of been really dumb eh ::)
Yeah, it was FOOL PROOF. ::) I know the judge will love it.
C'mon, you gotta admit the "Gay Lube Oil" label is pretty funny.
-

Tape you never heard of him I thought you were in Orstralia ?
I guess you knew this Rainbow guy and feel he got screwed on this drug bust? I have no idea about what kind of pseron he is.
Maybe he was a cool guy and decent individual. I'll give ya that as I have no idea myself.
Here is the rub .
Bodybuilders want to use various illegal drugs and I don't think they should be illegal myself.
But, me and other bodybuilders don't make or enforce the drug laws.
No matter how stupid you think a law is, that is not much defense if you get busted.
What bugs me is when someone risks breaking a known law and then act outraged when they get busted for breaking it.
What did he think would happen if he got caught?

No type of smuggling is "fool proof" , you can get caught the first time or get away with it 100 times , it was sneaky and it worked until he got caught.
Of course its funny , it was all over the papers when it happened a couple of years back.I guess you knew this Rainbow guy and feel he got screwed on this drug bust? I have no idea about what kind of pseron he is.

Na just know who he is and have seen the results of his work on others , he knows his stuff.
End of the day he shouldnt have to be smuggling to provide PED to not just BBs but all other types of athletes..yes its illegal but he now has a record and has been put on the same level as a fucking smack junkie and they are no where near alike..thats what irks me..people use PED to enhance there looks and performence by bumping up hormones that are natural to the body and he gets tarred with the same brush as a fucking drug addicted loser who contributes nothing to society , now do you see how fucked that is.

Ok as you may already know, in 1990 then US President George HW Bush signed the law that made steroids a felony class drug here in the USA.
Many other nations did the same , while others like Mexico have a more liberal policy.
If it is so important that a man would risk it, then they knew what they were getting into.
This is the ONLY reason why I think the IFBB should drug test and bodybuilders should avoid involvement with extreme steroid use and drug dealing. Once again, I don't make or enforce the law and I agree with you it is a dumb law.
BUT, it is the law. You risk breaking it and get busted you know what will happen. End of story.

BB is not the only activity that uses PED to get ahead..the same idiots that make these laws sit on the sidelines cheering at Football,Baseball , The Oympics etc while eatting doghnuts and sinking piss and smoking a cigar . all those sportsmen are enhanced so there heros are also criminals but thats ok we will just sit there and lie to ourselfs and say they are all natural. ::)

Will G, I actually agree with you on a personal level. I am on your side on this one, but I am a practical man.
Allow me to make this analogy.
Let's say we all find a speed limit on a certain stretch of road to be too slow and a speed trap.
WE all refuse to to obey the silly posted limit and a few of us get speeding tickets.
It isn't a good legal defense to tell the judge , we don't agree with the law and refuse to obey the speed limits.
At that point , all we did was admit guilt and case closed, pay the fine.
If bodybuilders really want steroids to be LEGAL they should lobby congress WITH the IFBB officials to change the laws.
BUT, no, even the IFBB has an "official" policy banning steroids and various drugs with 48 pgs of doping control rules.
If the governing body of bodybuilding doesn't want it, how in hell can bodybuilders ever hope to change the law.
Face it, winning in elite level bodybuilding REQUIRES one to use a large amount of ILLEGAL drugs. If we simply enforece the rules and drug testing, nobody would have to break the drug laws to compete well in bodybuilding.
It is my OPINION, that the absolute refusal to bodybuild withou tdrugs boarders on some form of drug addiction behavior.

HRDCOR was actually very cool on the boards :'(
he was an Aussie bodybuilder and a friend of lee Priest

I know where you are comming from and you are right its against the law.
BB are not the only ones breaking the law though , PED is in all professional sports so why arnt LE raining the USA Olympic team when they are prepping for the games ? cos they are breaking these laws to , that would never happen though cos they are untouchable until they have served there purpose.
-
"When used in high doses, risks include liver tumours and liver toxicity, abnormal cholesterol levels, and psychiatric disturbances such as depression, aggression and hypomania."
steroids or alcohol?
For a second i thought they were talking about illegal substances ::)

I know all about the politics when it comes to how the law is "enforced".
This Rainbow is a very different situation. He was DEALING drugs and got busted.
He took a shot, made some $$ and ended up pushing his luck and got busted.

I think we all agree that booze is a lot worse for people then steroids ever thought of being.
Great , so we all agree the law is dumb, but how does that halp anyone with legal defense if they get busted.
THAT is my point here people, c'mon, THINK.
1. Like most here I think steroids shoul be legal.
2. BUT doesn't make it legal.
I sometines get the impression that many in bodybuilding think that by not liking the drug laws , they can pretend they don't exist.
That is fine , UNTIL someone gets busted, now what? "Well judge, my defense is I needed more arm mass"
This kind of silly defense is what bugs me. It isn't very practical or in touch with the reality of the rest of the world outside bodybuilding. C'mon THINK!

both types of "drugs" are so misrepresented by the media...its a moot point. Liquor is for good looking guys that have drinks and laugh with beautiful women on their arm...
steroids turn you into a pimply psychopath and shrinks your dick
these are the messages taught by the television

I am talking ONLY about the practical application of the drug laws as they presently exist.
The rest of the argument is a moot point if you get busted.

dont you think perception, not reality is what set these laws into place? at least partially?

I remember GAY LUBE OIL steroids being in the news a year or so ago. The company was Advanced Stealth. It had a fucking shiny label and everything haha. The article had pics of hundreds of seized bottles.

Howard - this may be true in the US, but this is not the case in all countries. Some of us live in countries where the use the required drugs is not illegal.
-
Exactly - despite what they tell you in the US, the US is far from the more free place in the world.
And some might think you are free to leave the US, but even then, and even if you give up US citizenship, the US tax man will want you to pay taxes on income earned overseas, for "the priviledge of once having been an American". The US is one of the most regiems of all countries in the world, (all the time hiding behind "patriotism", and "democracy") which is why I would advise anyone never to consider becoming a US citizen, and to consider giving up citizenship if you are one now.

Exactly if your making money you should get busted, otherwise everyone will walk over the law. It's that simple it's no different if it's tax evasion or whatever. He knew he was engaged in illegal drug trade. both types of "drugs" are so misrepresented by the media...its a moot point. Liquor is for good looking guys that have drinks and laugh with beautiful women on their arm...

Point is it's democracy. The majority of people drink therefore it's legal. Only a minority of people ever think fucking with your natural test levels is a good idea. How does a demographic of people, with messed up hormone problems benefiting me? You got a tuff sale and no one is buying it.

The authorities got involved here in Australia, too, mainly because doctors were prescribing drugs to healthy people. In addition they sometimes gave them vet products. I remember a bodybuilder telling me he told their doctor which vet drugs to get! No medical board can accept this sort of behaviour so doctors get seriously punished or even booted out of the profession. The doctor involved in a big case said the musclemen were going to use these drugs anyway and it was much better that they get the proper drugs and be under medical supervision. The medical board didn't accept this explanation but it seems like a fair one to me. I am not sure where to draw the line here because today the professionals have ventured into unknown territory in manipulating body chemistry.
I don't think people should be allowed to import unknown drugs and then rebottle and relabel them. This isn't helping anyone. No wonder so many muscleheads use drugs but don't gain anything. Who knows what they were given? This is reckless and perhaps criminal behaviour. The law is right to intercept such substances and punish those involved.
I have known several people including some gym owners who dealt in steroids. People thought these people were doing them a service because it wasn't easy to get these substances. I don't agree that steroids should be illegal and that sucks because doctors don't know much about these drugs and neither do those who make the laws. If they are going to make steroids illegal then botox should be illegal, too, because it is used to enhance appearance in healthy people.

I was an active duty US Marine and love my country, the USA. However, I don't think we need over 150 millitary bases around the world.
That is too much like an "empire" for my ideals.
But, I am happy and fine being a productive citizen of America.
Once again, while I don't agree with the US steroid laws, it is the current law.
