All of this running, baking, biking and motorcycle riding etc....= a waste of time, effort (not that wearing your favorite pink visor and moo moo shorts with sunglasses whilst walking 3 mph is any real effort anyways) and money so far.
I wonder why all activities are necessary ? ??? You`d think it would be enough to just waste the money and donate without ever having to walk/run with a bunch of smelly old people (and a few schmucks in spandex who treat it like the olympics) or without ever having to wear some gay ribbon or stupid wrist band.
But no, its always donate this, buy that, run here, walk there. All for nothing.
Fuck your Cancer.

Where is Terry Fox these days? Oh. I know where. He is fucking dead.

Terry Fox disagrees.
How did that "Miracle" and Papal Intervention, combined with the other millions of empty headed morons "praying" for Terry Fox work out? HAHAHHAHHAH ;)
Death
In the following months, Fox received multiple chemotherapy treatments; however, the disease continued to spread.[58] As his condition worsened, Canadians hoped for a miracle and Pope John Paul II sent a telegram saying that he was praying for Fox.[59] Doctors turned to experimental interferon treatments, though their effectiveness against osteogenic sarcoma was unknown.[60] He suffered an adverse reaction to his first treatment,[61] but continued the program after a period of rest.[62]
Fox was re-admitted to the New Westminster hospital on June 19, 1981, with chest congestion and developed pneumonia.[63] He fell into a coma and died at 4:35 a.m. PDT on June 28, 1981, with his family by his side.[64] The Government of Canada ordered flags across the country lowered to half mast, an unprecedented honour that was usually reserved for statesmen.[65] Addressing the House of Commons, Trudeau said, "It occurs very rarely in the life of a nation that the courageous spirit of one person unites all people in the celebration of his life and in the mourning of his death ... We do not think of him as one who was defeated by misfortune but as one who inspired us with the example of the triumph of the human spirit over adversity".[66]
His funeral, attended by 40 relatives and 200 guests,[66] was broadcast on national television; hundreds of communities across Canada also held memorial services.[67] A public memorial service was held on Parliament Hill in Ottawa,[68] and Canadians again overwhelmed Cancer Society offices with donations.[69]

Then there are the douchebags who shave their head as if the person with Cancer wants to be fucking reminded that their hair will be permanently fucked if not gone forever. Yah thats real nice and fucking brilliant. Remind them of their plight constantly all with a shit eating grin.

I try and pick up my race packs as soon as I can, because I dont like oversized anything. Friday I'll pick up my pack, this isn't a charity half marathon, just something I like to do. I never keep anything over a size one bottom or size small top.

Cancer "survivors" are also highly amusing to me. They want to be lauded like some sort of hero for just breathing (again Look at Me!). They tour around their city, state or country giving false hope to the terminally ill and selling their story like some street preaching mountebank to endless suckers who will continue to fund such bullshit, all because it makes everyone involved "feel good" or "feel better" about theirselves. Some even thank "god" or a "jesus" totally disregarding/disrespecting all of the medical Science and the tireless work of their physicians who are the only real reason they survived.

it's not to be rude or anything, I DONT like oversized anything, it's one of the ways of not going back to my old obese ways. I bet the cost of producing all of those Oversized T-shirts and the subsequent cluttering of the landfill that they will undoubtedely will end up in, totally offsets any benefit the event would have had via money raised at the event. Thats also not even factoring in the gas wasted for everyone to get to the event, the trash that the humans will produce at the event, the electricity used, as well as the money it costs to put on such an event.
Chances are it would be best to not even have the event in the first place. That would probably help the penguins/ cancer patients even more.
-
WOW TA just as I was starting to think you were an OK guy, you prove yourself to be a self righteous scumbag once again. Its about people with cancer and their loved ones raising $$ to help the fight (and those who care). Have you done the research or looked to see how much $$ the Susan G. Komen foundation has raised for breast cancer? Have you looked to see how many women are breast cancer survivors today vs. ten years ago? Women have a 98% survival rate today because of the research that has been done.
I hope it never happens, but if your beloved Jezebel ever gets breast cancer, maybe you'll kick your self for these stupid uneducated posts you make. 1 out of 8 women in the US will get BC at some point in their lifetime. The rates are ridiculously high and if it wasn't for things like race for the cure the $$ for research just wouldn't be there.

I can`t really take credit for that quip. It came from the great blind man Populist and first Oklahoma Senator, Thomas Pryor Gore- circa 1916.

You do research in areas that interest you - cooking, politics, etc. Why not participate in an event then draw your own conclusions rather than making blanketed assumptions?

Early Detection is the only reason for higher curable rates now vs any time in the past. Hope this helps.
If you examine Breast Cancer among ethnic populations, ie African Americans, you will see that survival rates have not improved at all in the last 10 years.

Perhaps I am just looking to rile you and the others up with a "touchy" subject.
So what is your take on the 835,000 dollars spent in stimulus money to in order to research and teach African men how to wash their balls? AIDS and STD`s are diseases too you know. They are humans too. How do you pick and choose which humans you deem worthy enough to benefit from research and/or treatment and those who are not?
Or do you just pick and choose diseases that only suit your taste or interest you as to what is worthwhile to spend money on.

Name one verifiable result or breakthrough that can be directly attributed to the Susan G. Komen foundation and the money raised. Can you? Also survivability rates are solely determined on when Cancer is detected and nothing else.

My main point is, Why does there have to be an activity such as running, racing etc..associated with donating money? Why not just forego all that (they would be actually saving more money, better for the environment etc...)and paypal or phone in the money. Why all the pink hats, running and oversized T-shirts every weekend?
Imagine the money saved and that could be directed further if all that nonsense was cut out. Next thing you know the Susan Komen foundation is going to product a video game where you fight evil hoardes of mutated cancer cells in a First Person Shooter using a Gamma Ray gun.
-

Its called $$ raised for research. Weather it comes from Susan G. Komen or some other fund does not matter. Women with stage 3 & 4 breast cancer are living longer than ever in history, why? Because of research. Research costs money and these foundations raise money for research. Your a mental midget that just talks with big words, and tries to act intelligent. Then you post garbage like this. I think the problem with you TA is you have extremely low self esteem. Like I said I hope your Mom, nor your Jezebel ever get BC that way you never have to go down the BC journey. You're a foolish, skinny boy.

A very simple answer for your small mind: It draws a crowd, and gives people something to do. It gives people a cause. It obviously works because SGK has invested over 1.5 billion dollars since the foundation was founded.

Research like 835,000 dollars spent to teach African men how to wash their balls? ;D
Seriously, given the money spent and raised, not much has been accomplished in reailty when you begin to look at the historical survival rates of Breast Cancer. Besides, the majority of drugs come from companies whose first motive is profit, not eradication. It would do them no good to eradicate the disease (not that its even possible unless eliminated from the human genome via DNA which would likely cause a total disruption in the genetic code) as the well would dry up. Follow the money.
::) I bet you must think George Carlin had the lowest of all self-esteem. He used to bring up similar points regarding diseases and "foundations for the cure".
-
maybe it raises awareness?
Doesn`t seem to working for the African Americans. How come do you suppose that they are not "aware" yet despite the deluge of Pink memorbillia every where you turn? Their survival rates have not really improved in decades and they don`t seem to be reaping any benefits from the Komen foundation as an aggregate.
Perhaps they don`t like the color pink? ???

You do realize there cannot be a "cure" for cancer. The "disease" does not work like Small Pox. So labelling "xxxx for the Cure" or "yyyy for the Cure" is totally misleading and false advertising as there cannot be a cure. People are willing to buy into it because they THINK they will be getting a cure or will be getting closer to a "cure".
There is no such thing. If they were more honest and labelled it "Run for the treatment of symptoms" or "Race for Disease Management" (both honest statements and proclimations) then way fewer people would donate.
At least they would not be mislead and they may begin to understand Cancer a bit better biologically.

The objective of these foundations is not to support Big Pharmas it's to support our people. Obviously the pharmas are in the loop, there is no avoiding that. Do you suggest that because someone is making $$ off of Cancer we sit back and do nothing? No, some like the people in the pics you posted have decided to fight and not give up. It's a race for the cure, not a race to stuff the pockets of big pharmas.

They do it because 'domesticated primates' find security in group activites. Peer reinforcement of an individual's reality tunnel implies inclusion in the pack. Inclusion implies safety. Exclusion implies death. It's simply a genetic response to fear and accounts for 99.995% of all human activity.
by the way that 99.995% is scientifically accurate...I did the math myself! (no homo)

It helps individuals who are indirectly affected by cancer to feel proactive about the issue. Participants obviously know they won't be directly involved in the process of developing new treatments, however a simple marathon or session of fasting (any act that takes effort and makes the person feel they have to strive for a particular outcome) gives one the feeling they are working together and contributing to a greater cause. It is basically a person's way of saying they care.
Oh and it is a great fun way to meet new like minded people , you should try one...

Agreed it's about cancer culture as a whole. It's pretty much the only event in history where someone can take some pride in being effected by cancer. My mom almost died two years ago. Last month one of her friends died at 55. When you realize that the majority of the people you know are gonna get sick from it you kinda like being able to do something that isn't moppey assed whiney.
Besides it's the perfect place to meet up with some high quality women. Women are alot more open to advances when they think your their for a cause. ;)

TA, you ever think that maybe they wouldnt be able to raise as much money if they didnt put on all these "fun" fundraising events with the free shirts and social activities..??? i agree with you about it being a waste of time, and money. lots of wasteful behavior. but you gotta spend money to make money. organizing something fun and giving souvenirs greatly increases the amoutn of donors, enough so to offset costs and increase total funds raised.

Then there are the douchebags who shave their head as if the person with Cancer wants to be fucking reminded that their hair will be permanently fucked if not gone forever. Yah thats real nice and fucking brilliant. Remind them of their plight constantly all with a shit eating grin.

it would be funny if true anus or his stupid gf were diagnosed with cancer one day. They probably wont be together anymore anyway, it's only a matter of time before she figures how big of an insecure loser he is.

I think I agree sort of with Adonis...on this one. In all the years of raising money for Cancer research, they basically use the same primitive, barbaric treatments of Surgery, radiation, and chemo that they've been doing for close to 50 years. Other promising treatments are scoffed at by the American medical system..simply because there are special interests in maintaining the status quo. The chemo drugs make a fortune for the pharmaceutical companies.
