I didn't catch the press conference but Wiggs told me that Dennis admitted he lied about his age in the past because he felt people would write him off if they thought he was older and that Dennis said he will be "45 years old soon". So that would mean his May 1969 date of birth is not accurate and presumably he was born in either 1965 or 1966. That is pretty amazing given that even though he did not improve much in recent years, he wasn't exactly a wreck of injuries either.
Also, notice in the second video [his farewell speech] I tried to grab some footage of the arena for the crowd response which also showed how empty it was. At the prejudging Bob said the show would be sold out. Maybe by sold out he meant half empty with half of those attending being friends and families of the competitors? ???
I honestly wonder what would give bodybuilding mainstream appeal. I'm thinking more good looking bodybuilders would do the trick. I think it's safe to say that Gunter helped ticket sales, hence why Joe Weider gave him special invites to compete more than once. I like bodybuilding and truly do want to help support it as much as possible. If I didn't, I wouldn't put so much time into getting bodybuilding material on the internet.
But anyway, does anyone have any more information on Dennis and his retirement? Is he moving on to family life or something else?

yeah didnt know he was that old. he gave a good going out speech too, he seemed like the only individual during the entire course of the show who seemed natural and normal behind the microphone.

The Ole' I can't place in the top 10 anymore because I'm really 5 years older trick ;)

gh15 i mean DJ's body can handle the drugs really well after all these years of abuse. incredible genetic tolerance . Most dudes would have kicked the bucket years ago.

Just like how Levrone isn't 45, he is actually 42. He states it in his recent levrone report vid when he is watching the 92 Olympia. He says he was 24 then.

I was wrong to say "mainstream appeal". How about any appeal? Honestly, how many of what few people attended the show were friends and family of the competitors? The 202 prejudging is relegated to the expo! Didn't Bob say that one of the Ms. Olympia shows sold next to no tickets before? Surely bodybuilding can do better than that? I'm not sure though, which is why I'm posing that as a question.

In Kev's case it might just be because he is bad at math. ;D

Yes that is true but that is actually because I am down in size right now. I am 170, maybe less. If I simply lived an ordinary life I think I would be maybe 155 or so. If I ignore training or eating for any length of time I will naturally shrink down and fast [I am extremely ectomorphic].
But my lifts are legit [.wmv files]:

I have not benched for about a month now but I guarantee I will walk into the gym next week and get 225 for at least 15. Maybe 17.
I am legitimately Thunder Bay's 9th strongest man and I think within a year I could qualify for provincials if I cared enough to do that.
Last year I focused on powerlifting because I figured if I can't eat to gain muscle I may as well be strong. Now I'm thinking I wouldn't mind putting on some size.
My arms in my user picture were about 16.5". They are around 14.5" now but on little to no direct training. They are at least 15.5" when I get into it.

I just wish I had Nasser's genetics so that I could have relatively good size by simply existing and eating. But I am an ectomorph, not a mesomorph.
If I had gone to the Olympia expo when I was 18 I would have immediately been motivated to train. After this weekend I can't even say I particularly care if I go to the gym or not. I think when I had a higher sex drive I would have been more motivated. But having a very low sex drive, I lost my previous primary motivation to train which was to attempt to get women. I can't say I truly care about bodybuilding anymore but I'm not totally done yet. I might want to give it another serious go for 3-4 months and see how I look after that. I just care more about taking care of my family now than anything else.
With a deadlift now approaching 3X my body weight I am very pleased with my strength given how non-serious I have been about my training and especially my eating. I am actually approaching Layne Norton's strength in terms of pound-pound strength. Keep in mind Layne performs his lifts at 60 pounds heavier than me.
Here is what I looked like in early May [video]:

yes
I set my watch by them
I often call the ifbb for a weather report too...

Jeez - he can barely talk in that speech - he's so out of breath...
I noticed that too...
I wasn't sure if it was due to his being tired from posing or due to being nervous about the speech or maybe a combination of both.

Well, BB makes a lot of money through supplement sales, but it fails with the general public. Some hardcore fans and relatives/friends of competitors, no way you can expand further without solving at least some of the problems like drugs, prostitution etc.

I think the best thing for the sport would be if the athletes would put on more mass and just concetrate on size and mass...
Rühl is a good example and his body is what should be sold to the general public.
