Title: Where in the hell did Gary Strydom go?
Post by: dyslexic on September 28, 2010, 09:45:33 PM
He was like 50 and looking like a current O contender the last I saw... now you never hear shit.

He looked bigger these days than when he was competing professionally.

He bulked up to 140kg a few months ago but has since lost some weight around mid 120 kgs +...chatted with him a few weeks back..sez he can't stay that heavy too long as it isnt too healthy for him...and yes he resides in Bangkok, Thailand at the moment.

Cool pic.

The "health" issues with that kind of size (at that age) are immense...

Curious to see what Jay looks like in his mid forties...or is 'gonna' look like... if...

Jay's too reasonable to take those kind of risks. The guy will just go on HRT right after his competitive career unless they pay him really good money to do what Ronnie does these days. If there's a non-obsessive Bber out there, it's Jay I guess.

I once read an interview with J where he said he was really looking fwd to giving up the sport and getting down to around 220 pounds, and feeling a lot lighter, being able to run up stairs, etc. Will be quite interesting to see what he looks like when he gets to that.

I wonder if he will do HRT for life? Maybe slowly ease off it over a period of a year or so, and then go clean/natural?

Actually, I read that too...

The heaviest I've ever been was 220 @ 9% bodyfat

I am now around 181 @ 9% and the difference you feel (mid forties) is significant. I would love to be big and ripped again, but the truth is, it is a PITA in reality.

Wait...

This isn't real, is it?

Whatup G's???

Garry Strydom, one of my favorite bodybuilders ever. The icon of 1980s bodybuilding. He had a granite density to his muscles that we seldom see today. Another examples I can think of would be Johnny Fuller and Robby Robinson. These three are the best examples of the granite hardness that bodybuilders had in the late 1970s and early 1980s that was ruined by the introduction and inclusion of insulin into bodybuilding in the 1990s. Bodybuilders gained an extra 20-40 lbs of mass at the cost of hardness.....

You can see the effects of insulin "softening" the muscles most apparently in the deltoids.  Coleman is the only person I can think of off hand who didn't have that issue, but he's not human so doesn't count.

He said that in a local magazine (we're both from Worcester, MA) like eight years ago.

I would say the opposite about Jay. Ocd's etc. I've heard people have seen him at clubs in Vegas wearing a tank top(where anyone else would be kicked out for doing so). I think he will be like Ronnie and not be able to get off the gas.

oh, and theres a rumour of Bannout making a comeback!

I always liked his physique, but around 1990 he looked like he needed to hang it up, yet he still hung around for much longer...

now as good as he looks for his age, it just cant be worth it

Johnny Fuller.

I remember that guy. Full round muscles and hard as granite. You don't see that look much any more. Maybe Branch and of course Coleman back in the day but not much anymore. It does seem that insulin/hgh combo makes you bigger but softer.

Is he still doing shows or what? I mean, he looks amazing for any age, let alone for someone in his age group, but surely it must be tough to be wandering around with such low bodyfat unless he's posing?
