Let's face it Victor has had a rough few yrs, sister being killed, leg injury, and every pic you see him, he looks worn out, tired, if not depressed... I think he should possibly take some time off from bbing, focus on his Muscle Grill business, instead of stressing himself out with competing.
Anybody ever notice what I'm talking about, that weary look he always has on his face? It's not like the Victor of old, the wide grin, and overall expression of "swag".
-
it has to be tough on him, with his sister found dead in an air vent
-
A lot of bodybuilders are lazy. 300 pound guys that make a living off eating and boring themselves through training. I've had family members die and i regretted them having their last memory of me where i was in my life. It was extremely motivating. If he sucks it's on him.
-
Maybe BB is a therapy for him to get away from all the BS.

Its not just dying, she was murdered by some wacko and stuffed in a air vent...she was missing for days...then his leg injury, and of course that Chris Cormier issue (minor), if you look at his face, it ain't the face of a lazy bum, it's the face of someone whose been thru some ish...
You can only motivate yourself so much, to try and forget shit, but then you have the drugs, the bullshit of day to day life in NYC, shit, I don't think he even has time to sit down and truly grieve or reevaluate his life.
And sometimes you can't just motivate yourself, sometimes you have to stop what you are doing and change the record, change the scenery.
You can't blast 'Cube all the time, sometimes a little Teddy P or Bob Marley is needed to balance things out.
-
well vic got fucked over at the 07 olympia, then after the leg injury he still got fucked over with his placings.
his hype is gone. he is like gustavo now, no one talks about him.

Exactly, Gustavo was a top contender for 2 years and then got dropped by the industry and never came back. With Victor it's probably the same, don't think he will make the Top 3 again.

As the saying goes you gotta live life on life's terms. Life can give you happiness and take it away. In between you can influence the direction of your life whether it be happy or depressing. If something happens that sets you back you have to find ways to deal with it. If not you aren' in control of your own life, you're just riding a wave of life's occurrences. That can lead you anywhere, and likely you'll end up in a place you don't want to be. In life you have to get spiritual and find yourself. Know who you are and what you can handle.
If you're in a situation you think you can handle and you really can't, you'll be in over your head and be losing without even knowing it, leading to failure in whatever it is you're doing.. You have to understand yourself and know where you're going. If you're not realistic reality will check you and let you know you're fucking up. The secret is understanding why things are happening in your life. If you don't know yourself first you will fail a lot more than the person that does.

Victor was to me Mr. O 2007 , just like Phil is this year's....with that said, the injury compounded with his personal life is alot of stress for any person to bear, he still has everything from 2007 and can improve as well but no drive is def.not the case. He was 'growing' into the competetion remember, so he didnt show that 2007 condition...he has to be leaner than that and bigger to win the Mr. O ..

Quite true, young Jedi...Quite true. To be one with one's self, and one's path is the way.

Don't forget his mother died in 2006 and he has two autistic kids. Dude's gotta be drained.

Wrong.
Victor came in his all time best this year, unfortunately during his recovery years the competition stepped it up, A LOT

From the pics, he looked better in 2007, and he still has not matched his NOC winning condition.
-
Vic's best days are behind him.
-
As far as bodybuilding genetics are concerned, Victor truly has them. Even if he is depressed or not as focused as he would like to be, he is still one of the best bodybuilders in the world. I would like to see him have complete focus but he has definitely had enough stress in recent times to prevent that.

Good point. In 2007 neither Kai nor Phil were in. Actually I don't think either that his shape that year was so much worse than back then.
-
It's pretty well known the dude smokes a TON of weed.
He has done for decades. he's not hungry for the win like some other dudes.
You can tell he just doesn't diet hard enough and suffer.
always soft.

yeah this guy has some of the worst fucking luck
-steroid scandal exactly two weeks prior to the 2009 Arnold Classic
-alternative Drug busts
-Loosing his gym, fucking over his members
-Major Leg Injury
-Sister found dead just over a year ago
-
Knocking Chris down with that punch was the most hype he's gotten in years :D
-
Vic's best days are behind him.
Everyone ( including myself ) said the same about Jay , don't write Vic off just yet

Last year was his best, so if you said it in the last 12 months you could still be correct.

My point is there is hope for Vic

you way over think this shit. shit happens he has moved on but it wore him out mentally it looks like, you cannot prevent that dude, saying all this is good and dandy, but he had to deal with a lot of shit and his mind has to be totally blown out.
-
Victor still has it all there. But, like Bob said, he's like a wet towel that you just want to wring out a little more. I'd like to see him really go for it and get his conditioning down. Genetically, he's the opposite of grainy, kind of an inflated balloon look, so I don't know if he has it in him.
-
why does there have to be something 'wrong' with every competitor who finished out of the top 3
everyone is doing their thing, trying their best.......but the current IFBB landscape is very competitive, there can only be so many competitors in the top 3........and that means other competitors are going to unavoidably place out of the top 3
its just a reflection of the depth of the current talent pool.............not a negative comment on a competitor like vic who didnt make it this year
-

shut the fuck up.

hahaha! who is that odd little schmoe who keeps cropping up groping 'athletes' pecs??
-
I just think Vic is lazy, the guy has some of the best genetics ever to grace a stage. He knows that at 80% he is still better than nearly every pro on the planet and hes happy with that - typical stoner mentality.
-
shut the fuck up.
keep preaching your drug induced bullshit, it hurts your mind.

If it is bullshit (probably isn't), at least it is drug induced. Whereas your stupidity/bullshit is natural. Again, shut the fuck up.

Victor looked awesome during the second day at this years Olympia. If he can duplicate that then he will at least be 2nd to Phil Heath IMO. He's still got it.

Nah, his best 'form' was at the NOC 2002, along with Ruhl. They ushered in a new era of 'look'.
-
Victor was the second coming of jesus for awhile. He's never going to have that about him again.
-
Much tougher lineup at this years Olympia and still he placed 8th, which is not bad. Being a top 10 bodybuilder in the world doesn't hurt.
A few people said a few years ago that Victor Martinez could of been the next Mr. Olympia. But yes, tough situations didnt lead him to concentrate 100% on the prize.
2010 Olympia Results - top 10
1. Jay Cutler$200,000
2, Phil Heath$100,000
3. Branch Warren$75,000
4. Dexter Jackson$50,000
5. Dennis Wolf $40,000
6. Ronny Rockel$30,000
7. Kai Greene$18,000
8. Victor Martinez $17,000
9. Toney Freeman $16,000
10. Hide Yamagishi $14,000

I wonder if that 200k covers all of Jay's 'medical' expenses for the year....

Eighth is not bad if you're Hide, Toney, Dennis, Ronny, etc., but this is Victor Martinez. He's put together better than anyone else in the line-up, he should never finish that low. I'd like to see him go into the Arnold and get his act together.
-
Victor might as well consider suicide at this rate.
Pretty sad that after taxes, that 17K Victor attained will become an actual 10K or so.
That taken into consideration, it's kinda pathetic to think that he has to live off of just that for the rest of the year, assuming he doesn't do any other big (Arnold) competitions.
I know for a fact that just the cycles these guys run year round can be pretty expensive, add to that their average cost of living and they are truly living in poverty. That 10K Victor will walk away with might only cover some of the cycles he runs for the rest of the year.
Some folks will spawn out of nowhere and state that these guys also have lucrative endorsement deals and magazine sponsorships etc., but still it's a pretty sad financial existance considering the harm they potentially render to their bodies.
Maybe I'm wrong..
