Title: Too late to buy American?
Post by: Red Hook on October 04, 2010, 11:14:03 AM
Why is it there is no politician saying to "buy American"?

I truly believe that 1/2 of our economic issues stems from buying foreign goods

The other is from consuming too much and not saving enough.

Lee Iococa(sp?) where are you?

Given where exchange rates are, American goods have become more competitive on the world markets, so that should help both with exports and with domestic consumption (as imported goods are becoming more expensive).

I will never buy another GM or Chrysler car after they got bailed out by the govt.  Wish more people would do the same.  Those two companies should have failed.  Instead, the bondholders got screwed and the union employees got to keep their pension plans, all thanks to the US govt.  Fuck them, I am buying Japanese or German cars.

The main reason people buy foreign over American is because of the cost.  American labor is expensive, even if the person performing the labor is completely unskilled.  Americans think they are entitled to a decent wage and other benefits simply because they are 'American'.  It doesnt work that way, sorry.  It is bankrupting this county.

It doesn't matter what the brand of the car is - because of transport costs, many manufacturers have factories in multiple countries (unless you go to upscale sports cars).

And by the way the Ford Fokus is one of the best rated and best selling cars in Europe in its market segment, so Americans know how to build good cars.

Knowing and doing are two different things. Ford, for the most part has really stepped it up these couple of years. Chrysler and GM can go to hell. In terms of quality and styling Ford is leaps and bounds higher than thier american counterparts. And I am not talking about Caddy, ZR-1's.... cars that have a very small market. Overall reliability and quality as of NOW Ford has really done a lot better and is really aiming for what the people want.

If I am not mistaken thier President use to work for Toyota/Lexus, so he knows what's up.

Ford>GM>Chrysler
