Pretty much all electronics today are crap and don't last. The old saying "they don't make things like they used to" is especially true when it comes to electronics.
It's the sad reality of the greedy world we live in.

I just bought a Samsung Blu-Ray player for I think $150. Been happy with it so far.

I have an Insignia brand 5.1 surround sound home theater with a built in Blu Ray Player - no problems here!!

sony upconverting dvd players. They are around 50 bucks or so.
IMO won't buy a blu-ray player. Blu-ray is not a final format. I have one player that is no good cus the firmware couldn't be upgraded. I have another that won't connect to my network. But my ps3 has never given me problems. Just buy a ps3.

They cost $35 each unless you want to go for Blu-Ray. I have 2 Sony's. You can clean the disks from the center out to the edge in a straight line with a very soft cloth.
