I just posted a tribute article to Lee Labrada as well on my site:
http://tinyurl.com/39l4z7j
Lee Labrada and Rich Gaspari both have a similar story in the way that they placed as high as 2nd in their era and were two of the best bodybuilders of the time who later went on to become ultra-successful in the supplement industry. I'm unsure of what Labrada Nutrition does each year in sales but the company did $18 million in sales in 2001 and has no doubt grown since then. The company made the Inc. 500 list of fastest growing private companies in 2002, only six years after launch. Lee has a degree in Civil Engineering and his intelligence has obviously translated to great success in the supplement industry after he retired from bodybuilding. Rich is hugely successful as well.
Both are Italian...coincidence? ;D
I was very pleased with the Olympia experience overall. I'm not sure whether or not I will pursue covering the bodybuilding expos or not but if I do I want to learn from my experience and not repeat past mistakes. One thing I really want to do is make sure the focus of the interview is on the person being interviewed and to try to keep the questions concise. I want to be able to catch myself if I'm yapping when I shouldn't be and stop myself from doing so.
Some more notes:
1. Keep hand out of pocket as Swede noted.
2. Consult a gay guy to get some sense of fashion.
3. Fire Kill my barber.
4. Put on 40 pounds of pure mass before even thinking about attending another expo.

Why would anyone waste their time watching that infomercial for Labrada Nutrition, Matt you should be ashamed of yourself.Next time try getting a real "interview".Can I have my 3 minutes back?

This is a fair question. Alex23 said no one really watches these interviews anymore. I wanted to keep them short because people tend to have a lower attention span online. But I think it is a good opportunity for people to find out what new products are out if they are interested. Plus a huge sum of bodybuilding is marketing. A friend of mine said that for some beginners the ads are more appealing than the content of bodybuilding magazines. Back in 2000 when I first got interested in bodybuilding, I would always read the MuscleTech ads. Like so many other beginners, I actually believed them, at least to some extent. One said that Greg Kovacs had put on 23 pounds of pure muscle thanks to MuscleTech. Don't get me wrong, I think there are supplements that work, but claims like that border on fraud.
I swear not a lot of my friends sound as Canadian as I do. Can this be fixed? ???
PS: The Wiggs interview is coming. ;D

he looks to be in great shape, looks so much healtier than gaspari who looks like hes going to have a heartattack everytime he trains

Ahhhh, Labrada is Cuban???

Yes he is. And Lee is 50! I have to say that being at the expo didn't motivate me as much as it would have when I was younger, but it did make me realize that I want to stop powerlifting and go back to bodybuilding. I am pleased with my lifts and I want some size. Why be strong if you don't look it at all? I like having muscle and being 185 or so is hardly going to kill me. I'm going to start training again tomorrow after taking this month off and I want to make it a goal to gain some size, and leave powerlifting alone for now.

Ahhhh, Labrada is Cuban???
Good note! I initially thought Labrada was either Spanish or Italian but thought it sounded a little more Italian but I was wrong about that.
Looking back at the Spanish empire and the expanse of the Spanish language is really something:

Back when White men were fierce conquerors and not pacified by political correctness. ;D

Just wondering - why is Hugh Grant interviewing Lee Labrada...??

Just wondering - why is Hugh Grant interviewing Lee Labrada...??
Because I plan to kill my barber soon. ;D
But really it's funny because I hadn't heard that comparison since 2000 and I had heard it independently a couple of times since going to the Olympia. I have to say, I really stopped caring about bodybuilding personally these past few years especially now with family, but I want to get into it again.

:) LOL
Next expo: Peter North pompadour, no exceptions.
I will try to upload the Wiggs interview and the Layne Norton interview tomorrow.
In the Layne interview I poked fun at getbig legend THE TRUE ADONIS, but decided to remove the footage from the interview [Wiggs and I poked fun at him enough in our interview ;D].
My reasoning is that Layne is above a lot of the message board bickering and I don't want to put Layne or Scivation in a negative light. Layne conducted a VERY good interview in my opinion. He is a good representative for bodybuilding.
Layne's 18" arm compared to my 15" arm [my arms have been bigger in the past and will be again in the future :)]:

:-X :-X :-X

Why do I hear only the intro and not the voices?

Jeezus you look like shit

Ahhhh, Labrada is Cuban???

-
The Top Gun theme is your intro!? Really? Come out of the closet already.

Terrible interview.

You did fine, but did Labrada snap at you for vouching for his product after the camer was off? ;D

Labrada also wants to talk.

Then why tell us about it? you already casted him in a negative light, now give us the unedited version!

Why do you always look uncomfortable when you interview these people?

Why do you always look uncomfortable when you interview these people?
It's the nervous sexual excitement of wanting to touch them so badly ... very much akin to how girls used throw their panties on stage to the Beatles
:D
Also the reason his hand is in his pocket
5-4-3-2-1 till Matt cries and gets this deleted

Maybe he should grow his hair out and go visit him .. Falcon might be into midgets ;D
He could test his theory about not being gay !!

Hair cut, hand in pocket & inability to hold eye contact + danger zone = outed to the highest degree!
-
Labrada seriously looks like a Chuckle Brother nowadays. He looks like he has dwarfism. Good physique in his prime though.

That's odd, it works on my computer. There have been some problems with uploading to YouTube but I thought this one went well.
The Top Gun theme is your intro!? Really? Come out of the closet already.
And how exactly did you know that's where it was from? ;D My friend [and cameraman] recommended the intro song and I thought it was a good fit. He said you are allowed to use as much as 30 seconds of a commercial song which is what Dave does at RXMuscle. My friend actually knew the song Dave was using as well.
You did fine, but did Labrada snap at you for vouching for his product after the camer was off? ;D
LOL!!! I didn't think about it that way. I am motivated to put on some size after the Olympia. After I place top six in the city in my powerlifting meet on Saturday at 165 after which I will post the videos on here. I did not have any chest workouts in September but I worked up to 290X2 on Sunday for bench so I am hoping for 300 at the contest but who knows. It's a good starting point for when I get on a bulking program.
I've never read those things because even from day 1 i knew they were bullshit, I thought this was common sense?
As a young naive person who wanted to believe the ads were true, it wasn't hard to do. MuscleTech makes a point to create a scientific sounding ad and I wanted to believe I could put on 23 pounds of pure muscle with Cell-Tech as Greg Kovacs did. In 2008, the ads got even more outrageous with claims of up to 44 pounds of muscle. The end result: MuscleTech is a quarter billion dollar a year company.
MattC...
Why do you always look uncomfortable when you interview these people?
I felt that the Olympia and Arnold would be trial runs for these interviews, should I plan to pursue them. What I mean by that is that these are the first interviews I have done so I didn't expect to do a great job but I did expect that I could learn from a lot of my mistakes. One of them being that I really do believe that a "bodybuilding reporter" should actually be interested in bodybuilding. Frankly I have not been lately. It was more something I did years ago and lost interest in since then. But even Ron Harris who has legit 18-19" arms proves that a person can be a very good bodybuilder and still take heat from everyone about not being in good shape. Still, I want to put on some size now and learn from my mistakes.

A false accusation.
I didn't get your last post deleted. Click the notify button if you want to see who deletes your threads then bring it up to that mod. I wouldn't mind getting blamed for that if I did that but I didn't. Just as I did not cyber-attack Alex23's board. Eventually I just ignored the accusations and let him believe what he wanted.

:D
Ron's arms are huge in person. I think it's just that his muscle attachment sites are not as long as say Kevin Levrone, which gives the appearance of a smaller arm.
I also interviewed Dan Hill and I can attest to his arms being 20-21". It's just that Dan is over six feet tall which can make it look like his arms are smaller than they actually are.
-
Dan's might be 20+ off season, fucking Ron Harris is nowhere near 19"

Layne does not have the guts to say a single negative thing about me. That is a fact.
Also Matt, you need to do something to even out the dark circles under your eyes. You look like a raccoon, especially against the stark contrast of your Vitamin D deprived skin.
Perhaps you should wear some makeup mext time.
