Title: DOMS
Post by: Ursus on October 14, 2010, 05:55:11 PM
Why is the soreness delayed onset?

Why don't they get sorer as the workout progresses?

I done back and bi's yesterday, it is only now that they are starting to get sore. However when I do chest it starts to get sore around 11pm that night.

Also I find that if I flex my tricep or bicep an hour or so after my workout and it spasms then I will have substantial DOMS the next day.

Also DOMS can feel 'healthy' with a 'good soreness'. I find that when I don't eat after a workout for many hours I don't get DOMS as much but instead my muscles simply feel smaller, tired and weaker.

Shoulders I have it now. I done shoulder from 15:30-17:00.

In last few hours my back and bi DOMS started to appear.

One day I done the single most intense calf workout ever. Around 30hrs later my claves started getting sore - and I mean every 30 minutes the got noticeably sorer. the next 2 days they were phjysically sore to touch. I could not put my heel down or straighten out my leg. Could not walk.

Weird.

Don't worry about it, it doesn't mean anything anyway.

This is in wikipedia:

"The delayed onset of the soreness may occur because the inflammatory response process that sensitizes the nociceptors (pain receptors) takes some time.[4] However, the relationship between damage, inflammation and DOMS is not yet completely understood.[2]"

Thats why I said "don't worry about it".

I can pull articles from experts that say just about the same thing if you'd like. Are you saying that there is a correlation Vince?

I only train each bodypart 1x week. I feel DOMS are a good indicator of effort and workout productivity.

If I do not have DOMS I do not feel like I done enough.
