Not meant to be a debate thread as to who was better (we all know where that looms); rather, a tribute to the two of the most complete & freakiest BBs ever. No one today is even close.

While these are the huge mass monsters, a lot of people prefer the symmetry, as it was when Flex Wheeler and Shawn Ray were competing. One of the most impressive physiques to me was 10+ years ago, when Flex Wheeler was in the Olympia, look amazing, and perhaps, should of won the Olympia.

but don't forget that Ronnie, unlike Yates, could stand toe to toe with the smaller guys in the symmetry department and still look good: ronnie had a tiny waist back in 98/99 along with the 250+ pounds of mass.
hence his appeal as the best ever

Both great. I think the Ronnie 99 video is better than the 2002 video. Around 99 he had an off-season look that was amazing both in mass and relative rippedness, shape etc. Check this guest posing, I think maybe the best ever. I'll have to watch the Dorian one then this to see but it's pretty close.

Exactly, I don't think his quads had a weird shape at all. His legs (which look better in some shots than others) are amongst the best ever and they make Coleman's turnip shaped quads look soft IMO. When Yates made his Olympia debut in 91 he was described as being like Haney but with better legs. 'Nuff said.

QFT, atleast Dorian actually tore his biceps and had an excuse not to be complete for a couple years. I dont think Ronnie ever had a calf injury, just flawed genetics. Yates > Ronnie.

Dorians arms were subpar always. His torso overpowered his arms. His chest was also bad, the pecs are attached to high on his rib-cage. Nothing wrong with his quads in my opinion- his legs were better than Ronnie's in most ways.
Ronnies arms and chest were cleary better than those of Dorian, and both had fantastic backs.

Even though he wasn't at his best, his waist didn't look pregnant and distended. Why can't these guys maintain the already sizable amount of mass they carry and just continue to refine and work on quality? As I said, can any of these guys even attempt a vacuum pose? The 90's were the pinnacle in terms of balancing size, shape and muscle quality. Even Dorian looked way more aesthetic in the early 90's. Fucked up a great physique by tearing shit and getting that GH gut. He could have maintained the mass he had and worked on refinement. And not have been forced into retirement. Same goes for Ronnie.
Alot of these guys today look their best at the national level IMO. As soon as they turn pro, the quest for more size seems to be the all important factor, their bellies growing right along with the rest of them. A dramatic shoulder to waist taper is much more impressive than size at all costs, IMO!
