They are also in Bankruptcy. :-\ :-\ It has to feel good for Vlad and that dude who was a drug addict and now plays video games. ;) Josh Hamilton. :-\ :-\ I think it was him.

what's funny about hamilton is that he got all of his ink in that period of time when he was banned from baseball and doing alot of drugs and now he regrets them.....pw3nd

Is he better then Gabe Kapler? 8)

Been in the playoffs every year since 1995 but one.
It's very hard to win a WS. Anything can happen in small sample sizes in baseball. The best teams make the playoffs, but in short series, luck, timing and skill all play a huge role. The playoffs are a crapshoot, with the vagaries of baseball being most evident during this time. The Yankees will be back, and most likely better.
You tip your cap to Texas and move on. I wish them and SF the best of luck - anyone but Philly.
But, to the OP who mentioned the golf course - how great a job is it to be paid millions, and when you fail, your "punishment" is golf?

too bad the yankees couldn't BUY another championship! go rangers!

Don't be bitter the Yankees spend money. Baseball is better when the Yankees are doing well.

True. It's all business for MLB.
The thing is, the money is always going to be there, whether the Yankees spend it on payroll or not. People hate the Steinbrenners for spending, when the alternative would be to keep it for themselves. They get chastised for NOT being greedy.
It's baseball's problem to fix, not the Yankees. But baseball won't fix it, because, as you pointed out, it's better for the league when they do well. Everybody is getting richer off the big market teams.

Don't you have a bunch of shitty ink minus the million dollar contract and not playing in the world series, mr. catcher?

40-50% of their roster is from the farm system.

Then you could say 50-60% of their roster was bought from other teams. ;)

When you outspend everyone else by as much as that Yankees do, none of that matters. Not to mention, they have far more funds to throw at their farm system vs. a team like the Rays.
The Redsox are looked at the same by by a lot of teams. That being said the Yankees are in their own league when it comes to spending. Pun intended.

No, there were also trades involved. Either way, who cares? All teams are comprised of home grown talent, players traded for, and free agents.

I really don't care, I was just trying to get a rise out of yankees fans. I worked in the Pirates minor league system and those tight bastards sucked ass.....which is why the product is what it is for them for the last 25 yrs.

It matters greatly. If you're paying for top talent on the FA market, if you can't balance it with good talent from your farm system, your team will stink. To be able to sign ARod/Teixeira/Sabathia types, "underpaid" above average players like Cano/Gardner/Hughes, etc...are a must to have.
Yes the Yankees spend more than anyone. But the sox seriously closed the gap this year. (170 vs 200 estimated).
I'm very interested in what they'll do this offseason. I think they'll make a run a Jason Werth or Carl Crawford, but will not be in on Cliff Lee. Or, they'll move Youkilis to third and try for a big first basemen. Of course, there's the Martinez/Beltre situations as well. In other words, there's a ton of moving parts whereas I think the Yankees will throw the bank at Lee, and make a few tweaks.

Lol! Sorry about that. I used to live in Butler, Pa in the late 70s when the Pirates were pretty good. I also looked up their financials recently, and saw that just a few years ago they were showing operating income of 25M after everything! My best friend was also a Pirates fan for his whole life, but couldn't take it anymore and switched to the Mets because he live in NJ, but hates the Yankees.

that fucking cashman is such a liar, albeit they needed to can Pitching coach eiland, but it doesn't have anything to do with the ALCS, YEA RIGHT
so who else is up for free agent beside jeter and rivera, I think one more is up but don't quote me on that
-
okay, so Pettite, Giradi, Jeter and rivera are contracts are up. Let's see Jeter is 36, no way is he getting another 10 year 189 mill contract again. This should be interesting

He wasn't lying. Eiland took a leave during the year but no reason was given. Something was going on.
Anyway, who cares? Wasn't it that his contract expired and they didn't renew it?

Jeter will be paid for what he's done, so he's definitely getting more than his numbers would require.
I'm guessing 4/72, although I can picture 4/60 and possibly 5/100. They'll over pay on this one big time, hopefully not the latter of my scenarios though.
Mo will go year to year at this point, but I think he can still pitch at his level for more.

Nice to see the Giants doing well.

well Girardi got 3 years for 9 million..Lets see what the other contracts bring

Llook for Mo to go year to year, maybe two. Jeter will be paid on more what he's done rather than what his numbers were this year. Most likely 4/72, but I could easily see more or less.
Yankees will look to add Lee, or maybe take a shot at Greinke or, hopefully!, Soria.
Other than that, don't expect many big changes.

If they are smart they will get Lee

If they are smart they will get Lee
Considering that they offered Seattle the best hitting prospect they've had in 15 years to acquire Lee for 2 months of this season, it would seem that they're pretty intent on adding him.
