Title: Whats the proper form on leg press?
Post by: Meso_z on October 28, 2010, 01:59:39 AM
Ive seen some videos of Dorian at MD saying the depth of the rom shouldnt be "deep" but as long as you keep your back tight to the seat and not arching your back youre good to go.

how do you do it?

fast reps using a lot of momentum. thighs should touch your chest.

think of your legs and joints as rubber bands, springing the weight up and down

boing boing

Keep your back tight against the seat, go down as deep as you can go without your lower back coming off the seat. If your lower back comes off the seat you're going lower than you need to go and putting a lot of unnecessary pressure on your lower back.

as arnold jr said, I believe is the way

what gets to me is the apparatus loaded with every plate in the gym, then the individual with pudzinowsky delusions proceeds to grunt loudly through assisted 3 inch reps, Im not sure what part of the lower body that is targeting or what our hero is hoping to achieve hypertrophy-wise with that feat

obviously ROM matters, those people who just look like they are bouncing the rig up and down a few inches are not getting optimal muscle stress and contraction

if you are doing this, and are not able to slowly unrack the weight................ta ke in down slowly reasonably deep................stop ..................and fully extend back up...................you r most likely using WAY too much weight

also, using too much weight, and and bouncing, and using Poor ROM........is a good way to hurt yourself................ when i was dumber a few years back i herniated some discs in my back leg pressing like an asshole

Slow reps, Increased ROM, Less weight.....

Means you don't get tired loading tons of 45lb plates onto the machine

Put your feet up higher and decrease the incline.

Keeps hands resting on knees and push as hard as humanly possibe while letting your back leave the pad......at least thats how i see more people doing them than any other way.

The leg press at my gym pisses me off so much... The back only has two settings, all the way up so that you can barely bring your legs down, or all the way back which causes you to literally slide up and off the seat!  GRRRR
